Doing that research for my spell book!
We have our own craft. And in a world like this we should celebrate that we can have our individual craft rather than hate on for being different.
All witchcraft is beautiful and unique.
Magic is a suspension of what we see, and a belief in and use of what we cannot see. But know instinctively is there.
Honoring the circle of life is a vital part of witchcraft.
“Witchcraft is not safe. Witchcraft is not good and kind. Witchcraft is the domain of the trickster, the outcast, the wanderer, and the crooked. It belongs to those who know every light casts a shadow; who have looked into the depths of darkness in their soul and accepted what they’ve seen along with all that is good. Witchcraft requires cunning, manipulation, self-awareness, adaptable morals, and dash of madness.”
— Sarah Anne Lawless (via gardenofthequeen)
This speaks to the part of me that cringes and holds her tongue every time I see a post or an article that talks about witchcraft like it’s all flowy gestures and flower petals and peaceful hippie vibes. Like it’s supposed to be all safe and sanitized and suitably done up for aesthetic posts. Like the idea of shaking things up or acting with aggression or embracing fear or anger or pain or deceit as a part of the craft is anathema.
Me personally? I can’t do safe. I can’t do nice. I can’t do pastel or love-and-light. I can’t do the holy menstrual cycle. I can’t do peaceful forgiveness. I can’t do the dance of endlessly doubting and double-checking myself to make sure I’m truly Harming None.
My spells aren’t always kind. My wards aren’t friendly. My philosophies aren’t remotely pacifist. As a good friend once said, I walk this world with dirt in my nails and a brick in my hand. And that’s okay.
If your craft is all sunshine and happiness and that works for you, fantastic. But just remember where the roots of the tree are resting.
I found witchcraft because I was angry. Because I wanted to take back power in a world that made me believe being passive and demure was holding power. I don’t post a lot of my personal practice in Tumblr but I guarantee it’s not all sunshine and rainbows and uwu cuteness.
i refound it because i was grieving.
this 100%.
I found witchcraft because I was angry, powerless, and grieving.
That’s not to say that every witch has to have suffered or turned to magic through suffering, just that many of us find witchcraft in our darkest times and often, our practises reflect that
Beautifully put. Witchcraft is unique to all and i adore all witches who practice.
I enjoy all the different aspects of magic. And feel connected to so many. Part of being a witch is making it your own craft.
Why are ‘witch tips’ always like “use quartz as a substitute for any crystal!” and not the good stuff like “River spirits are almost always looking to fuck shit up, so if you rile em up and then feed them a name, they’ll lay someone tf out.”
Excellent ! My turn. I onced tricked a spirit into believing the red wine and dragon’s blood powder mixture I served it was the blood offering it was due. No idea how it bought that, no idea if it would work again, but when you have certain geasa, you make do. To whomever it may concern…
Witch Tip: Venusian plant spirits love flattery, love to have their praises sung. I also find they’re more active during midday in full sun. Saturnian herbs can be slow to open up, but are excellent teachers once they do.
Witch Tip: When visiting a graveyard, especially for magic purposes, leave a penny at the gate as offering to its guardians. I’ve seen them fight off spirits that would have hurt me otherwise.
Witch Tip: numerology is helpful but trust me, repeating that prayer or incarnation until you can barely speak and the words hang heavy from your tongue, rather than adhering to a set number of repetitions, will 1000% get you in an altered state of consciousness which will allow you to commune with the spirits at work much more easily. This is when you raise power and gain the ability to affect the weave.
Witch Tip: When practicing skyclad, make sure the blinds are drawn. Otherwise you might an uncomfortable call from the neighbors, and that will ruin your experiment!
Witch tip: don’t pour water on a burning candle. Candles are essentially burning oil and water will cause a dangerous flare up.
Witch tip: Keep crystal and glass objects, such as pyramids and spheres, away from sunlight. Not because of spirits of the sun gods or whatnot, but uh…those things can condense sunlight, which can and, if allowed to, WILL burn shit down.
Witch Tip: do not put white quartz, blood, pokeweed berries, pokeweed leaf, and a bay leaf in a hex jar. it will summon a banshee.
Much needed tippps
I am the fae witch. Finding magic in everything.
Aid the happiness to come out.
Calming Jar
Because sometimes, a witch just needs to remember to take a breath.
Materials:
Small jar with lid
Chamomile
Lemon Balm
Lavender
Spearmint
Caster’s nail clippings or hair
Find yourself a small jar and fill it with an equal-parts blend of Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Lavender, and Spearmint. To this, add a few of your nail clippings or a strand of your hair, and one good steady outward breath. (Don’t blow into the jar, that will just scatter things and make a mess. Just exhale long and slow, and try to release a little stress while you’re at it.)
Seal the jar and store it somewhere that it won’t be disturbed. Whenever you get those feelings of anxiety or you just can’t seem to simmer down, take the jar out and give it a shake, or pop the lid off and have a small sniff of the herbs inside. If it starts to smell funny or develops mold, discard the contents and clean the jar thoroughly, then start over.
Note: Please be aware of allergies when concocting your herb blend. If you are allergic to any of the components, please feel free to substitute other herbs or crystals with calmative properties.
For the moon and mother earth walk hand in hand.
Dont forget to leave the fae gifts.
