Renewable energy is reportedly a key national priority at the moment, but the petroleum industry is--needless to say--still working hard to pull stuff out of the ground and meet demand. A sector with the scale and transnational profile of Big Oil is inevitably ringed by assorted secondary and tertiary sub-industries, but it's only at the quaternary outer edge that we find the apparently booming trade in oilfield bling.
The keychain pictured here is a cast-pewter, gold-finished replica of a 250-ton drill rig elevator. It's the perfect gift for an oil industry middle manager--freshly returned to the suburbs of Houston from a week spent observing the roughnecks at his or her company's Wyoming oilfields--to bring home and bestow upon an adoring spouse or child.
