Camouflage (2019) by Lucky Marvel
My piece is about camouflage. I addressed the concept of camouflage by blending a model into the floors and walls of a Renaissance themed room in the Masonic Temple. My piece is subtly about the death of a woman without memorialization. My inspirations for this piece were the Black Plague, the Italian Renaissance’s groundwork for capitalism, and suffrage. My color scheme includes red, yellow, green, and some blue. I chose these specific colors as they had already existed in common Italian Renaissance color palettes. To make this piece work, I dominantly used a contrast of value to camouflage the subject into and out of the light. I also played with contrast of saturation and extent. Never is the subject’s face fully visible in the piece.

The color scheme is red/blue. The red part of the color scheme creates a relationship between the two figures bearing those colors as well as creates a great deal of depth due to their placement in the composition being separated from the desaturated blues of the window/mountains in the background.
Also, this image freaks me out.
