Edit: I'll be back for Season 2! This blog may have been pretty dead for a while, but rest assured season 2 will pull me back into the fandom, don't you worry.

Since the release of the Netflix adaptation, I've seen a lot of new people enter the fandom, and with them, a lot of new OCs. Since the live action only offers a pretty limited view on the world of One Piece with its 1000+ chapters and diving into the wiki also means diving into huge amounts of spoilers, I decided to create this blog. Here you can get all the info you might want or need, 100% spoiler-free! I'll make sure to give examples in every post I make, usually using live action characters or my own OCs only - that way everything stays spoiler-free.

So much for the live action people, but what about the manga/anime fans? Not everyone is caught up, so maybe the spoiler argument also applies to you. Or maybe you are caught up and you just want a second opinion on whether something could work the way you imagined or you're still confused about when and how water actually affects devil fruit users (it's complicated). I might also be missing one really important topic you think all newer fans should know. Either way, you've come to the right place.

This blog is relies heavily on what questions you might have or what you think newer fans should know, if you're a manga fan. So, my askbox is always open. I also would really like to connect with people and talking to someone can be a great way to develop a character, so you can also always send a DM. In short: Send those messages!

Last but not least, a quick disclaimer. None of the tips I give you on here are truly mandatory. Within fandom spaces, it's Shroedinger's canon, especially with OCs. The posts on here are supposed to help you get an understanding of how the One Piece world works and how to make your character fit into it as if they were canon. How far you take that is completely up to you.

Hello everyone! With season 2 of OPLA around the corner, let this be your official notice that I'll be back!

I'll also be reworking the spoiler system since the old one is overly complicated. From now on, there will only be three spoiler tags: "opla spoilers" (for season 2 spoilers), "post opla spoilers" (self-explainatory) and "one piece spoilers" (for animanga spoilers; Egghead and onwards).

This just makes things a lot easier for me. For people who don't want to be spoiled as they're watching the anime or reading the manga, I can add little warnings within the posts if necessary.

With that being said, I'll see you on the 10th!

Hi everyone!

I've been really inactive lately for I don't know how long and I'm sorry about that. I got myself into an awful burnout and am trying to crawl out of it right now.

That being said, it really made my day whenever I saw even a single notification on this blog because that told me I had left my little mark that could still help people.

As for how this blog is going to continue:

I won't be able to make full-length posts for quite a while, so the guide on piracy (not the digital kind) is still on hold. What I can do though is give you my research I've done for the guide so far.

I'll also still be answering asks and questions if you have any!

is is ever mentioned when you're officially an adult in the one piece world? because Luffy sets sail at 17 and Koby joins the marines with 16, so perhaps you're considered an adult by that age? But according to Sabo you become a world noble at 18? (aren't you one either way if you're born into a noble family?) But then again, if Sabo wasn't (as some say) planned from the beginning, perhaps one should not place much value in this reasoning - idk. It rather feels like you're considered an adult at 16/17... since the other younger strawhats were also more or less on their own out their (or in Sanji's case having an actual job)... and then again there's Bonney who is 12 by the time she arrives in Sabaody with her own crew so... then there's that^^ (but she might be an expection since she usually looks like she's an adult)

I don't think there's a set age for when you're an adult and in a lot of cases it probably doesn't really matter. Why? Because we're in a world of pirates and many children and teenagers have to learn how to fend for themselves early on, that's just the cruel reality. I'll try to give some ideas regarding the examples you gave and then name my headcanons for what I think the more "official" age limits might be.

First of all, I'd say Bonney is outright disqualified because of her devil fruit. One Piece doesn't really have a form of ID, so they can't check her age, but even if they could... you can't tell me Bonney wouldn't have a fake ID or get her way either way because she's a pirate.

Luffy setting sail at 17 is most likely because Ace sat sail at 17. Also, Luffy is Luffy, so he probably doesn't care about age limits.

I wouldn't say that Sanji having a job is really an issue here because cabin boys are common amongst pirates and so are kids helping out chefs in kitchens. Also, he begged for that job on his first ship and then got given the job by Zeff when they opened Baratie. They did open Baratie together, even though Sanji was a kid, so I can't see him not getting a job here. Who knows if he actually got paid either. I don't think we can apply our definition of what constitutes a job in this case.

Now with Sabo and Koby is where it gets interesting, so this is where I'm gonna get into my own headcanons.

I think the One Piece world might be working with similar age limits/requirements as we do here in Germany. That means you're legally considered of age when you're 18, but you already get to make some important legal decisions when you're 16, very rarely also as early as 14, usually with a legal guardian's approval.

Why do I think this is the case? Being of age with 18 lines up with what you said about Sabo and becoming a Celestial Dragon. Yes, you're born a Celestial Dragon but you probably only get the full privileges of one when you're of age - so, most likely 18. Koby joining the military 16 wouldn't work here in Germany, but it's only one year off and I'm pretty sure the bar used to be lower - which, One Piece takes place in a more historical-esque setting, so we can probably assume 16 would be the minimum age requirement. Especially with the Marines being this present in day-to-day life and supported by the Government.

Why did I say Germany instead of any other country with the same age limit? Well, on one hand because I live here, but also because of one specific reason: Alcohol. Usopp (at least in the live action) got completely wasted at Baratie and I'm pretty sure Baratie is a place that would check your ID if you wanted a drink (at least if it's running normally, not like when Koby and Helmeppo showed up). Usopp is 16 but he still managed to get wasted, most famously off that huge bowl of fruit punch or whatever that was. I'm very sure that that stuff would fall into the category of drinks you'd be allowed to get at 16 in Germany. Light alcohol like wine and beer at 16, hard stuff at 18. Some more hints towards it being like that in the One Piece world too are that Zoro and Nami had no problems getting rum, which is hard alcohol, and they're 19 and 18 respectively. Helmeppo was also easily able to order shots for himself and Koby and he's 20 at that time. What we can definitely be sure of is that the limit isn't 21.

Whatever the age requirements are, I believe that, while they would be universal for anything involving the Marines or the Government and probably be enforced too, in the realm of pirates they don't really matter. Like, as a bartender, are you really going to deny a pirate crew some vodka for their 14-year-old cabin boy? It's either you give alcohol to a kid and maybe pay a fine or you lose a limb - I think the answer is very clear. Different kingdoms could probably adjust the age requirements to their liking, but I don't think they could lower them too much. But I don't know, that's just speculation at this point.

All in all, being in adult in the world of One Piece probably depends a lot more on the respect people have for you and how independent you are than your age.

What's the education system in one piece like? do they have schools? don't think we ever saw one but we did saw Sabo having a tutor/private teacher at home?

I'm pretty sure there's no real set education system. If there is, it probably varies from island to island or kingdom to kingdom and most likely also depends on your social class. Generally speaking though, I think schools aren't very common. You'd most likely deal with homeschooling or private teachers, maybe also small self-organized schools at private homes.

would a devil fruit that allowed the user to hear sounds beyond the normal human range be a paramecia or a logia type? devils fruits confuse me a bit ngl >_<

Hey, thanks for your ask! Devil fruits are confusing, I get it - and the further you get in the story the more confusing they get, actually.

Generally, the difference between Logia, Paramecia and Zoan type devil fruits is as follows:

Logias make you become a natural element. It makes you able to fully transform your entire body at will and the element has to occur naturally in the world, like fire, ice, sand, smoke... If it doesn't occur naturally, it's not a Logia. Logias, through transforming your body into a natural substance, also make you invulnerable to some extent. Try to punch fire - you can't, your hand will just go through it. This can be counteracted through a special technique that gets introduced at about the halfway point of the story, through seastone or through the natural enemy of the element. In fire's case, that would be water.

Zoans give you the ability to transform into a living creature, be that real or fictional, extinct or not. They have a model, which is the umbrella term, like cats, dogs, birds etc., and a type, so cheetah or lion for cats, wolves and hyenas for dogs, hawks and pigeons for birds... Zoans usually let the user transform into both a hybrid and full animal form. Note that while I said "living creature", plants don't count towards Zoans. It has to have some form of sentience. Types of humans/humanoids also count here! Also, Zoan users seem to get a boost to their physical strength and durability, no matter whether their creature they can transform into is particularly strong or durable in nature.

Paramecias have the widest range of powers and would best be defined as "anything that doesn't fit the definition of Logia or Zoan". Some Paramecias function very similar to Logias in that they let you emit a substance, sometimes even transform into it, but that substance will always be unnatural or artificial. Some also function similarly to Zoans in that they allow some sort of transformation, but that wouldn't be a living creature but an object or something.

So, to be able to decide what category your advanced hearing devil fruit would go into, you'd have to think about why it allows the user to hear better. If there's no further reasoning to it, it's a Paramecia. Generally, Paramecia might be your best bet. If they get their advanced hearing from some sort of creature and can transform into that creature, it might be a Zoan. What it definitely isn't is a Logia. Hearing isn't a substance or element and you can't transform into "hearing" itself either.

helloooo evie lovely archivist of this blog ‼️ so im making a one piece oc and the main idea was that he comes from an island where archery was founded and is deeply rooted in its culture and traditions but its a practice only for men and my (trans male) oc wants to change that and spread it all over the world for everyone BUT i just got up to watching amazon lily and the kuja use bow and arrows 💔💔 i was under the impression that archery/bow and arrows werent used much (or at all) in the op universe so i was wondering what record of archery there is in the op universe?? because in my idea my oc would be taken hostage by the marines for using archery (it was an old marine technique used in the early days but died out shortly after a marine admiral who had decided he was going to be the best archer in all of the marines and banned everyone except him from practicing it died 😖) so idk how thats gonna work now?? also sorry for the ramble lol 😭😭

This concept is really cool, I love it! You're right, there are very few archers in One Piece. After a quick bit of research, the archers that can be found in the world of One Piece are all either noncanon, Kuja, sky people, or pirates.

So, I think your concept might still work! The practice could still be outlawed, which is why pirates use it but civilians usually don't. Also, the Kuja and sky people using it doesn't have to be an issue, because those cultures are both more or less isolated from the rest of the world.

Other cultures besides your OC's culture aving a form of archery also doesn't have to be an issue. First of all, parallel developments aren't unheard of historically. Two cultures that have nothing to do with each other can invent something independently from each other and still both have invented it. It's really no big deal. It's especially no big deal if they have their own "versions" of the invention. For example: Kuja don't have bows. The archery bow could have been an invention of your OC's island, or perhaps they invented a specific variant of the archery bow - see for example the different between "Western" archery and kyūdō.

is there a timeline for the op universe? like, if i wanted something to happen on my oc’s island 150 years before the present canon, what would that year be called? and when did the world government/the marines start and what year would that be? (thank you for all the work you do on this blog btw!!)

First of all, thanks for your question!

Yes, there is a One Piece timeline. It's run by a website called The Library of Ohara and currently updated until Chapter 1103 - so very spoiler-riddled. If you don't mind that, you can find the full version here. I've been thinking about maybe making a spoiler-free version (for OPLA) of the simplified timeline, but I just don't have the time and capacity for that amount of work right now.

So, I'll just stick to answering your questions from this ask for now.

First of all, the One Piece world most commonly uses the Sea Circle Calendar. In terms of months, weeks, days etc, it works just like our Gregorian Calendar, so birthdays can be translated between one and the other 1:1.

The World Government was created roughly in the year 700, or at the very least in the early 700s. I can't find any information on whether the Marines were also founded at that time, but another "police force" of the World Government that's somewhat related to the Marines was founded alongside the WG, so I'd just assume the Marines were too. It would also make sense for their creation to be at the same time as the World Government, considering the surrounding political events.

The events of OPLA (and thus the early arcs of One Piece) take place in the year 1522. Thus, Roger was executed in the year 1500, which was 22 years ago, and this started what's known as the Great Pirate Era.

If you wanted something to have happened 150 roughly years ago, that would be in the 1370s.

Part 1: Directions

This doesn't just apply to piracy but sailing in general. If you're on a ship, these are the proper directions you would usually use. I'm gonna split these into two sections: The wind stuff and the ship stuff.

WIND STUFF

windward / upwind = the direction that the wind is coming from

leeward (pronounced "loo'ard") / downwind = the direction that the wind is going in

lee = the leeward area adjacent to a ship

lee side = the part of the ship further leeward

veering = the wind changing direction; for example: "The wind is veering away from the coast. It always veers when we least want it to."

SHIP STUFF

conning = giving the helmsman orders

larboard / port = left; the left side of the ship

starboard = right; the right side of the ship

fore = the frontmost (= foremost) section of a ship you can still stand on

bow / prow = the front tip of the ship's hull

forward (pronounced "for'erd") / afore = towards the front, ahead

afterward / aft = backmost section of the ship you can still stand on

stern = back end of the ship's hull

abaft / astern = backwards

amidships = middle of the ship (both horizontal and vertical)

aloft = up

below = down

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about your ask, and I do plan to answer it, it just takes a lot of research and, even more so than that, a lot of structuring of research, and I just don't have the capacity for that right now.
