In general another pet peeve of mine about whitewashing is how we're expected to believe that it was not visible to the artist.

Like, if it's maybe a tad bit lighter? Okay. I usually let that slide. God knows my mobile and my monitor look completely different, solutions ineffective so far. Maybe you're still learning skin tone vs background. Okay. I don't get upset at that.

But you had to go all the way to the other side of the color wheel for some of these whitewashings and you're gonna look me in my Black ass eyeballs and tell me you "couldn't tell". 😐 Especially when all the other colors are the exact same 😐 It's almost insulting lmao like do you really think I'm stupid enough to go for that, or are we all just socialized into knowing I'll be forced to 🤣

I’ll never understand why anthropomorphic animal cartoons like Robin Hood and Zootopia will go to the trouble of creating character designs that are meant to be understood as “attractive” or even “sexy” to the human audience but explicitly avoid showing interspecies romances between anthropomorphic animals. Why is THAT weird but, like, trying to make rabbits recognizably sexy-coded to humans isn’t?

It's always like look this my black oc! My disabled oc! My trans oc! And they can't exist on their own being what they are. It just feels to me like these traits are just features, that are often misinterpreted or sometimes up for debate.

So I feel nowadays it's required on the internet to specify all sorts of ethnicities and disabilities and other so called features because people are so dense to just take things as they are and make wrong assumptions.

So you, as the creator, live in fear of being misunderstood. And then the character starts to look less like the character and more like a checklist of all sorts of features and you have to defend every single feature like a solid singular fact.

And you forget that maybe the facts are more nuanced than it looks like, because people aren't as simple as some checklists of features and neighter should be your characters.

and this applies to real people too, whenever I see all the bios with all sorts lists full of disabilities and identities it feels kinda meaningless.? I get that it is easier to put unique feelings and experiences into simple words and it feels good to have proper description for so many complicated feelings. I am not trying to invalidate your experience and life. Just... these lists don't tell me much about who you are as a person.

And I just hate how we rely on them so much for the sake of being understood in this vast void.
