Hey I'm new to fish owning and I saved a common goldfish from being kept in a beaker at school. I have him in a ten gallon tank right now he's only about three inches long. I know I eventually will have to move up to around a 20g but I don't have the money or room at the moment. How soon will I need to size up?

To be honest you will need to upgrade the tank size immediately. However, since you said that you don't really have the space or money to do so I would suggest attempting to re-home the fish to someone with an established pond (you can probably find a local Facebook group about koi/goldfish ponds where someone would be willing to take the fish). Common goldfish require much more space than fancy goldfish and would need about 40 gallons per fish because they can grow up to a foot long and are much more active. They can do okay in tanks but do much better in ponds because there is more space for them to move around. Let me know if you have any follow up questions!

ain’t these kids just beautiful? found a super nice light set-up for their tank that gives these great dramatic shots ^^ (although the white patches on Herb make him practically glow)
