Hii do you have any headcanons for modern au rangshi( like what their jobs would be, how would they meet , modern explanation for kyoshi's scars etc)

What I think their jobs would be --- +.*

Kyoshi is a law student or a judge, depending on how old they are in the AU to me. Mainly because of her strong sense for justice and also her strong sense of empathy towards people who are less privileged in society. She probably is also an activist (together with the flying opera company. Rangi is a firefighter in my mind. I know her being a soldier could also work and I feel like her being a firefighter works better with her also strong desire to help people as well with her loyalty (also she does fire in canon sooo it's just funny). Also I find it kinda hard to work around military hours, specifically that they leave the country sometimes. I feel like neither of them would like that so it's kinda like I'm doing them a favour (⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.)

How I think Rangshi met --- +.*

I always picture them meeting in school. Probably middle school? Since in canon they would have met when they were like 14 or something? Anyway. They are in the same class(es) and Rangi has a crush on Kyoshi but is incredibly bad at flirting, which Yun teases her about (I imagine that him and Rangi were previously introduced to each other because of their parents (Hei-ran and Jianzhu) knowing each other and thus introducing them (Kyoshi isn't involved because in the beginning she got easily scared of people and Kelsang was worried that Rangi and Yun would be too overwhelming or something. They were hoping that Kyoshi would find some other more quiet friends but that obviously didn't really work. They did introduce her to them beforehand though, just to have a backup option). Yun befriends her immediately (partially one sided at first) and introduces Rangi and Kyoshi properly. From then on it develops kind of the same way as it does in the books (minus a bunch of the plot obviously). So Kyoshi is kind of scared of Rangi -> realises that Range cares about her -> they become friends -> kyoshi eventually discovers that she loves Rangi (after meeting the flying opera company, and perhaps being affiliated with some not so legal activism) -> Kyoshi confesses her feelings to Rangi -> they start dating (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠)

How I think Kyoshi got her scars

I believe I read a fic at one point that attributes them to abuse/neglect from Jesa and Hark, which I sadly believe would be the more realistic option. It would most likely be neglect. I don't think they were very present in her life, she tried to maybe cook something and got severely burned because of it. Obviously it isn't quite the same but kind of the most plausible explanation.

But it kind of depends on the tone of the story. So for a more close to canon approach I usually use Kyoshi's strong sense of justice. In this version Xu Ping An is actually involved and in charge of a gang of some kind that makes people's lives a living hell. So Kyoshi decides that she has to do something against it and gathers information or disrupts their plans as much as she can. Eventually she gets caught though and held hostage. She gets tortured (maybe actually with electricity) as a punishment until she can either escape and run to a safe place, where she tells the authorities about what happened, or she can actually kill him like she did in the books (most likely through something like her beating him up to be able to escape and him dying later because of blood loss). Either way it would leave her with the scars.

Who do you think has their hand over the other's while holding hands? Because you know when you hold someone's hand there is someone who took it and someone who's hand was taken. Is it Kyoshi's or Rangi's hand that is the "dominant" hand in the holding process?

I am fairly sure that Kyoshi is the one whose hand is being held.

Because it's one of Rangi's favourite parts of kyoshi, first of all, so it would make sense for her to initiate a lot of affection with those parts she likes extra much and also then he the „dominant” one in that interaction.

Also I feel like most of the time Kyoshi is more in need of subtle reassurance, such as hand holding or other more casual forms of affection, whereas Rangi needs more concrete and direct forms of reassurance (aka more firm/clear affection).

Rangi is also overall a lot more direct and so to say „dominant” with her ways to sow affection (only after they already started dating. Kyoshi isn't reserved but Rangi is just more likely to initiate and then lead (might depend on the situation though).

Additionally the thing with Kyoshi's lightning scars and how it more likely left her with some form of nerve damage (perhaps leading to pain, cramping or shaking) as well as the fact that she canonically bites her nails. Rangi holding her hands is probably a bit help for that (this is kind of straying form your question now so I'll stop lol)

What do you think about Sei'naka island having a spirit, a tiger specifically. I saw this fic https://archiveofourown.org/works/76915881

Since both Sei'naka women have Korean names, plus Junsik. I thought it'd be cool to have some Korean mythology for them.

A bit unrelated but I've always loved that in a modern AU Rangi or Hei-Ran would speak or know Korean because their home island speaks it. It's possible.

Indonesia has 1 official language everyone speaks, but has over 700 regional languages still spoken today. I believe that the Fire Nation is like south east asia geographically. And, like Indonesia it's an archipelago, the reason it has retained speaker for it's over 700 regional languages has multiple factors, one of them being geographical isolation.

Sei'naka island, is a teeny tiny island in the far south of the Fire Nation where they have a different accent due to their distance from the capital.

Maybe I'm just forcing it because I'm half Korean and Indonesian, and I want to see characters like me. Where they're from at least.

I would also definitely enjoy them (or maybe multiple/all of the clans) having a protective spirit of some kind of them having more ties to Korean mythology, even though I admittedly don't know as much about that •́⁠ ⁠ ⁠‿⁠ ⁠,⁠•̀

I would find it very interesting if the clans were like somehow also spiritually justified in why they exist instead of the canon reason of them being the descendants of the strongest warriors in the pre avatar szeto wars, especially because the world of avatar is fairly spiritual overall.

(Also it might be interesting what would happen with the clan protection spirits during the 100 year war, given that the fire nation went against the standards of spirituality and fire bending completely. Like. Would they leave? Would they be captured somehow?)

Wait that's really interesting. I haven't really seen too much of that in modern AU fics personally (from what I can remember) but I think that that would be really cool. And I totally see how it could work that way. It definitely would be nice to see it incorporated into more fics in the future.

I don't think it's forced since basically every hint we have about where Rangi would come from are her name (which comes from a Korean word), her last name (which I believe someone said sounded Japanese) and the one time she was actually voice acted. In the game Avatar: Generations she is voiced by Tania Gunadi, who actually is Indonesian, with what is an Indonesian accent (I believe).

That and the overall South Asian influences that are present in the fire nation basically confirmed it for me personally.

In fables foxes have a bad reputation ; are treated as morally questionable, cunning animals that would go for unethical ways to get what they want. This is the outer layer of how kyoshi is seen.
