the natural lifespan of a fandom is unlimited. when well tended a fandom can be functionally immortal. and yet everywhere you look you see newly bred fandoms withering and dying when they’re barely a year old. barely even six months old. fans are looking at their six month old fandoms and saying i think it’s on its last legs, should i euthanise it? when with the proper care that fandom could outlive them for decades. it’s sad. sad state of affairs we’re in.

i've been a danny phantom fan since the show first aired and while i've always liked vlad i never really understood the utter obsession the fandom's had with him for the past 20 years

but now that i'm older i think i can pinpoint what makes this particular character so appealing to people in the first place

he's rich and powerful

has a tragic past

his main motivation is that he just wants to be loved

only problem is he repeatedly fails at achieving this goal due to the fact that he's basically a bitter incel

has that one scene in TUE where we see future vlad expressing his regrets over his past actions showing that there's a chance that he *might* be capable of redeeming himself

is an older guy with graying/white hair which means that everyone draws him as a silver fox in fanart

and with all these elements combined you get a very specific character type that people people love to obsesses over

so basically he's baby's first loki

I’m not giving up. I’m not, I promise. I’m just… the art crisis is hitting me again and my brain is just… empty and distracted. Even when a lot of friends tried to help me to come up with something, I still did something else entirely. Danny’s been hollowed out, literally.

Jazz holds him tighter, as if her arms could be the tourniquet he needs. But it's no use. With a final sigh, Danny deflates, all the ectoplasm leaving his body. Jazz is left kneeling in her brother's blood, holding his favorite T-shirt in one hand and a glowing marble in the other.

Roughly an hour later, when Amity Park’s cops come through to survey the damage and clean up the wreck from the fight, they find Jazz still kneeling in a pool of ectoplasm. She looks up with them, eyes blank, and holds out Danny's stained shirt, the bottom edges fried. 

“My parents killed my little brother.”
