Samara only nodded to Shepard as she exited the room. The meeting had not been what she expected, but then again, several years ago she would have never guessed that she would ever have to deal with Collectors or Reapers. She felt Jack bump into her, but that did not make her flinch. The young woman was enough troubled as it was and she was in no mood to point out that it is customary to apologize. She spent a moment looking around the command center before she decided to take the elevator down.
After she entered Starboard Observation, she felt much more at ease. Taking a deep breath, she sat down and resumed her meditation. She had much to think about. She swore her loyalty to Shepard and she would not take her word back; that would be impossible. She had no doubts; the Code would always tell her what is right and what is wrong. But even without the Code...Shepard put her greatest worry to rest, as painful as it was. Her daughter - Morinth - was gone. Now it was her turn to return the favor.
Samara thought that in an hour or so, she would have to go to the shared space of Crew’s Quarters to eat something. Perhaps she should also train her biotic powers. The Justicar knew she was strong, but there was no telling what would happen this time. Still, all of that could wait. First she needed to meditate on the events of the day. Samara’s eyes started to glow once again as she relaxed her body.
((I’m truly sorry that I haven’t replied yet, I’m really busy with the Bachelor’s thesis and since it’s due end of April, I would like to apologize, but I need a break till April 30th. It’s possible I will reply sooner, but just in case, I wanted you to know. Thanks and see you around!))
As usual the things that were going on left Tali speechless. No matter how much she likes to act as though these things are to be expected something always manages to surprise her. She’d never really considered herself the sort to feel sympathy for Batarians but this… This was horrible. Swallowing a lump that’d formed in her throat she nodded at Garrus.
“Yes, at least this time we’ll be able to stay in touch.” Her tone was notably somber but honestly there wasn’t much chance of it being anything else. It seemed like she’d only just gotten on board not too long ago and already the galaxy had seen it fit for them to part again. It wasn’t exactly the most relaxing experience but hell these people were her friends more than anyone back in the Flotilla. Or most of them were. Speaking of, she turned her gaze to Legion with a nod.
“Yes, that’s… That’s a good idea. Hopefully we can work something out, try to keep our people from shooting at each other.” Sighing she placed a hand over her mask. “Or at least keep our them from shooting at each other until after the Reapers are done shooting at all of us.”
Samara was rendered speechless for a moment. What Shepard said almost made her lose her composture, the one she spent centuries building. Her eyes widened in shock before she managed to get a grip on herself again, gritting her teeth together. She expected something grave, given the urgency of Shepard’s message, but this was a completely different league. This was one of the times when she was thankful for the Code. It gave her guidance and answers to what was justified and what was not. She could not - or rather didn’t want to - imagine what the other squad members had to be going through.
The Justicar waited for a moment before most of her present colleagues said their opinions and words of encouragement. She wanted to observe their reactions first and - if she were to be honest - she wanted to make sure her voice would carry the usual calm, disinterested tone as always. If I am not calm, then who will?
Finally, she decided to speak. Clearing her throat, she looked Shepard straight in the glowing, red eyes. “I will not lie to you, Shepard. There were times when I disapproved of your actions,” she admitted. “Some days you were moving along a line which would be unacceptable for me, if I was not bound by the Code to you. Even now I am having hard time accepting some of your decisions.” She made a brief pause, her gaze never leaving her Commander’s face. “However, in spite of all disagreements we might have had, I can see your cause is justified. What you did was not wrong. Not only according to my Code, but apparently measured by other standards.” Only then have her eyes moved from Shepard, observing the squad members again. “I will be here as long as you need me, as long as you desire to stop the Reapers. Even after my promise is fulfilled and my choices and morals are once again only my own,” she finished in a low voice, her gaze settling on Commander again.
— Things just couldn’t seem to settle down. Solve one problem && ten even worse ones would present themselves as if by clockwork, or some great conspiracy by whatever higher powers might exist, intended to keep Miranda from ever chasing down a quiet moment to herself - not that she even intended to use the time for herself. Unfinished work piled itself up the moment she thought herself caught up and on top of it all.
Get your asses in here, came the next annoyingly insistent ping — her Commander, the galaxy’s renegade darling, as charming as ever.
Naturally, her presence was requested. Heaving a sigh - an action she’d only take when none but EDI were around to hear it - she left her latest work lying on her desk, rising to her feet and making her efficient way to the meeting.
"Shepard," she piped up as soon as she’d entered, opting to greet her Commander directly rather than acknowledge the presence of those who’d already convened — perhaps some small part of her still considered them beneath her notice, although she’d never voice that opinion in front of Shepard and expect to remain employed. "Kept you waiting, have I?"
Samara only narrowed her eyes a little when the female biotic showed her impatience in such an impulsive way. Keeping her look neutral, she only slightly narrowed her eyes at the childish behavior. This was the very reason why other races sometimes saw humans as too young and potentially dangerous. Still, it was not her place to keep the others calm; it was Shepard's duty. Samara expected her Commander to keep others in line, knowing that Shepard had both the skill and authority. And as usual, the Spectre did not disappoint.
Finally, the Cerberus officer arrived. The Justicar examined her face as she did with all her temporary colleagues. She wasn't fond of empty talk, and what the woman just said fell into that cathegory. The situation was even worse since the other squad members seemed on edge from the stalling.
"Shepard," she broke the silence shortly after Lawson spoke. "Now that we are all here, I assume there is something important you intended to inform us about?"
Having made a diversion to the crew deck bathroom, Shepard caught her own gaze in the reflective surface above the sink. Once-green eyes were now almost completely red, an angry glowing fire matching her fury and frustration over the state of the galaxy.
Perhaps she should get the implants looked at, let the skin on her face heal so she looked whole and human again before going to an Earth that had never been her home despite being a part of her. Perhaps the scars, the skin splitting open, the eerie glow in her eyes would not win her any favours as Alliance Command passed their judgement for what she’d just done. On the other hand, these things reminded Shepard of who she was and what she’d gone through - accepting her own death was still far off, something she needed more time than what the galaxy allowed her to take to work through, but with everything else needing her time and energy and focus it could’ve been easy to push the thought away. Seeing her own face like this prevented that.
The fact that she probably looked off-putting didn’t matter.
With tense shoulders, she got to the elevator and rose through the ship, strode quickly through the Armory to the comm room, which felt tense as she entered. Still missing her XO, Shepard opted to take position at the head of the table, hands on her back as she nodded to the squad members present.
As the rest of the crew started to gether, Samara took a good look at all of them. Even though her face did not show it, she was genuinely impressed by Shepard's ability to recruit so many capable people and - which could be even more difficult - keep them from assaulting each other. That woman had a curious gift. Samara did not always approve of Shepard's methods, but she had to admit that they achieved results. She acknowledged the presence of every member by a slight head gesture.
If the atmosphere was tense, Samara did not notice. In her opinion, silence was good. She knew she had no reason to feel tense - if there was nothing to talk about, then the quiet was a natural thing. When she noticed Zaeed's gaze, she looked him straight in the eye, with more curiosity than animosity. If there was something he intended to say, he would do so, there was no need for her to inquire about it. Her gaze lingered on the mercenary for several more seconds after he turned away.
Once the Commander arrived, Samara greeted her with a short nod. She took one step closer to the table and waited for Shepard to explain why she called them.

Thank you very much, glad you like it!
"EDI", she said while turning the datapad with her report off and moving to leave the Med Bay, "tell my squad to meet me in the comm room."
"Of course, Commander."
Temporarily diverting the daily efficiency diagnostics to a series of subroutines, EDI called up the omni-tools of each squad member, not waiting for them to accept the comm - while acknowledging that politeness cost nothing, it had not seemed like Shepard desired to wait any longer than necessary - and stated that the Commander requests your presence in the Communications Room before opening up audio channels to high-ranking ship personnel and resuming the previous task.
Samara was meditating in the Starbord Observation when she received the message. She sometimes browsed through the books stored in her temporary quarters, but apart from that, she spent most of her time meditating. She kept her distance from the rest of the crew. There was no point in talking, even though she found Shepard's occasional visits enjoyable. Her new allies were indeed capable and lethal in fight, but young. The loneliness brought by Samara's age and the way of life she chose had to be expected. Expected, but not always welcome.
She glanced at the omni-tool. As biotic glow slowly vanished from her eyes, she nodded her head, acknowledging the request. "Very well. I will be there shortly." She rose to her feet and straightened her spine before walking out of the door, accompanied only by the quiet clicking of her heels.
When she exited the elevator, she greeted the crew around the galaxy map with a dignified nod. Without a single word, she made her way to the Communications Room. There she waited until her Commander arrived. Even when she saw other squad mates on her way to the meeting, she didn't say a word. There will be enough time to talk after Shepard tells them the reason why she called them.
