A theory on Genshin Impact/The Traveler
So I have a little theory. Maybe someone already talked about it or maybe it’s too improbable, but I still wanted to share it because I had this idea for a little while, but it made even more sense since I saw “Teyvat chapter Interlude Teaser”. Be a little understanding, It is just a theory, and English is not my first language, so excuse my mistakes. Also, it will be long so please bare with me a little.
So the theory is based on a few other theories. There is a theory (I don't remember where I heard it) that says that after the new loom of fate is completed, whether by the traveler or the sibling, after we end our journey and defeat the "Heavenly Principle" , the traveler might become the new ruler of Teyvat, the new "Heavenly Principle"…
Well, my theory is that the Traveler won’t become the new heavenly principle, because they already are the heavenly principle; they have always been.
I know crazy but hear me out, my theory is not complete but the simplest way for me to explain it is to talk about the game “Little Nightmares 2”. So, sorry to those who plan to play it later, but I will spoil you. If you have no intention of playing it but want to know more look at video explaining the story on YouTube.
Anyway, in Little Nightmares 2 we start the game as “Mono”, and we get chased by “The Thin Man” throughout the game. At the end, we discover that we (Mono), are and have been “The Thin Man” this whole time stuck in a timeloop we can’t escape and everything that The Thin Man did to maybe try to change things led us exactly where he didn’t want to be.
I think the same thing is happening the Genshin impact. I think somehow we are stuck in a time loop. Which is already implied by the last archon quest. But I don’t think we are in a time loop because of Teyvat, I think Teyvat as we know it today exists because of the timeloop.
I will explain. Like I said this theory is based on other theories. There is a theory that the one who terraformed the planet after the war with the dragons, came from the same planet as the twins because of the flower from their original planet that strangely also grows on Teyvat. But the twins are believed to be the only survivors from their planet so how is it that those flowers grow on Teyvat? Someone brought it there. If we believe that the twins are indeed the only survivors from their planet, then one of them has to be the one who brought it on Teyvat. I think it is The Traveler.
By the way I talk about “the one who terraformed the planet after the war with the dragons” because I’m still a little bit confused about the Primordial One, Heavenly Principle, the second came and that part of the lore. But for the theory the most important part to keep in mind is that someone coming from The Traveler’s planet must have planted the flower in Teyvat.
Now, in the trailer, Renova said that if Asmoday switched sides, then it means that she must love her new master more than herself. I think she is wrong and right. Here comes another theory: Paimon is Asmoday or rather a mini amnesiac version of her. But if my theory that the traveler is the Heavenly Principle is assumed to be true and traveler is just the Heavenly Principle at another moment in the timeloop then by consequence the shades are The Traveler’s shades… Asmoday being Paimon, the master she loves more than her own self is The Traveler. This means that she didn’t switch sides, she just loves the same master but from a different time in the timeloop. In this theory, I don’t believe Paimon knows anything or remember being Asmoday, but I think as a shade she is naturally attracted to the Heavenly Principle. And the reason the other shades don’t know The Traveler is the Heavenly Principle is because The Traveler doesn’t have the power of the Heavenly Principle… yet. Confusing, I know but just follow along for a little more.
It could explain why Asmoday stopped the twins from leaving Teyvat… because that is her purpose as the “Sustainer of The Heavenly Principle”. In order for the loop to exist and by extension her and all of Teyvat, The Traveler has to stay.
Also, that could explain why the heavenly principle is “asleep”. Did the shades actually see them sleeping, or do they just assumed that if they don’t see the Heavenly Principle, that means they are just taking a nap? I'm just joking, but what I want to get at is, maybe the Heavenly Principle is not asleep, maybe they are not there anymore, maybe somehow they traveled back in time.
So this is the way I think it happened in my theory. The Traveler gains power by finishing his journey, like godlike powers. At the end of the journey they end up being or taking their place as the Heavenly Principle. Then with all their godlike powers they think “yeah Teyvat is cool and all but with my power now maybe I can go back in time and save my original planet”. So they go back in time as the Heavenly Principle, but unfortunately either they go back at the wrong time and can’t make another jump or they did arrive enough time before the destruction of their planet, but realised they couldn’t do anything about it, like no matter how much you delay death, it will come no matter what. Anyway they can’t save their planet as the almighty Heavenly Principle, but keep in mind that while they are going back time, in the timeline they go to, the twins exist or will exist. So at that moment they the “Traveler Heavenly principle” and The Traveler exist at the same moment even though they are the same person but from different points in time. Maybe at that moment the “Traveler Heavenly principle” realising that their original planet couldn’t be saved also realised that they were in a time loop and to ensure they and their twin, from the past, survival they had to actually created Teyvat themselves. Basically they are and have always been the Heavenly Principle and from that point everything started happening like how we know now history from the game. And I even thought to myself, well if they realised that their original planet can’t be saved why couldn’t they just go back to the future Teyvat where they come from. They couldn’t. If nobody creates Teyvat in the past where they are, there won’t be a Teyvat to go back in the future to, so they have to do it themselves to not take any chances. So that means that even if they didn’t realise that they were in a time loop like I suggested earlier when they understood that they couldn’t save their planet, they had no choice but to start it now. Because what else were they going to do now? Stay in a timeline they don’t belong, on their own, without their twins or Paimon? No, they had to create Teyvat themselves. So they find a planet with dragons on it and think “those animals don’t deserve this planet. I need it more. So let me make them pack and leave” and then start a war with them. (I’m joking. But even without this theory of The Traveler being the Heavenly Principle this is basically what happened). By that time I guess they understood that they were in the timeloop, that they were The Heavenly Principle. Even if they weren’t happy to colonise someone else’s planet and kill all the dragons, they had no choice. They had to. For their survival.
After all of that, the Traveler Heavenly principle created the 4 shades, gave them rules to abide by, and maybe, somehow told Asmoday all the story, their past, and their future. Appoint her as the “Sustainer of The Heavenly Principle” and tell her to stop them and their twin in the future. Also Also Also it all tied up with the flower I was talking about earlier. The Sibling told the Traveler that they wanted to stay on Teyvat because of this flower from their home planet. So remembering that I think the Traveler Heavenly principle planted the flower on Teyvat to make sure they (them and their twin from the past) would be more inclined to stay there.
So that is everything. I hope I was able to make it comprehensive. Sorry it was super long. My mind was racing after watching the trailer and I really wanted to share it. I also post it on the official genshin impact reddit but it is still in review by the mods. Anyway it mostly silly and there is a lot of plot hole and I doubt Hoyo will make it so simple (or complicated depending on how you see it) but i really wanted to share it. Okay bye now
