Looking like that, why are you such a nerd? And you are, you know. A serious nerd. I had to do some computer shit to get Pathfinder talking to the rover and oh my god.

Astrophotographer Petr Horálek captures the stunning night sky from Namibia. The Pleiades, Orion nebula, and Magellanic Clouds are all visible but the planet Venus shines brightest, illuminating the stone arch.

Sick sentence starters
“When was the last time you checked your temperature?” “Are you feeling any better?” “You really don’t look good…” “Shit, your fever’s really high, we need to get this down.” “How long have you been throwing up for?” “Have you gotten any sleep?” “You’ve been sick for how long? And you didn’t say anything because?” “C’mon, let’s get you back to bed.” “I made you tea, you need to stay hydrated.” “Do you think you can handle some soup?” “I know you don’t feel well, but you have to eat — just something light.” “I’m sorry you’re not feeling well.” “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this sick…” “You really, really need to get some rest.”
CHRIS.
chris hadn’t felt this much heaviness in his stomach since he was working in the air force. mark was left alone… alone on mars with no one to help him. no one to truly talk to. and despite what the commander said, the doctor blamed himself; after all, he’d been so quick to tell melissa that mark was DEAD. without another word, chris had slipped off to his quarters, curling up with one of mark’s sweatshirts. was it sappy? yes. but the familiar scent of his best friend made it like mark wasn’t too far off… it eased his frayed nerves. he was usually better than this.
“hey, beth” he murmured softly, patting his bed as in invitation for her to come sit with him. chris’ grip on the sweatshirt loosened slightly. “it’s my fault a little. i told the commander mark was dead… but mark was alive down there, alone.”
she LOOKED ON AS HE onto his friends sweatshirt. they all cared about mark, and they would try their hardest to bring him back. in that moment, they were all just doing what they were trained to do and there was no way they could have known that he survived the storm. letting out a soft sigh, she made her way over and sat down besides him on his bed. she watched as his grip loosened slightly on the sweatshirt but noticed how he wasn’t ready to let it go. the SIGHT ABSOLUTELY BROKE her heart and it made her even more determined to do whatever it was they had to to bring mark home safely.
“ you had no way of knowing that he survived the fall; none of us did. mark is strong and you know that he will find a way to survive until we are able to get to him and bring him home. you were just doing your job chris; that’s all any of us could do. we will bring him home I promise you that. ”
“ There is beauty in space, and it is orderly. There is no weather, and there is regularity. It is predictable. Just look at our little Explorer; you can set your clock by it—literally; it is more accurate than your clock. Everything in space obeys the laws of physics. If you know these laws, and obey them, space will treat you kindly ” - Wernher von Braun
( independent beth johannsen from The Martian )
her HEAD TILTED TO THE SIDE as she looked on towards her commander. beth could always tell when someone was lying about something. she had been able to do it ever since she was a little girl and she got better at it as the years went by. pushing herself up from her seat, she made her way over to the bench where the other woman was sitting and sat down beside her. a soft sigh escaped her lips as she pushed a lock of her hair behind her ear.
“ we both know that’s not true commander. you don’t have to deal with this alone. we are all here, working together. we are going to get through this and then WE WILL GO HOME. ”
she knew that it probably wasn’t the best advice, but it was all that she could offer in that moment. with everything going on, emotions were running high and they were all losing sleep. they need to lean on one another and knew that they were stronger as a team. // @missioncommandcr ( x )
It was official; Beth Johanssen Beck WAS PREGNANT. She had her first ultrasound a few days prior and had been trying to find a way to tell her husband. She knew he probably had an idea but she couldn’t wait to finally tell him. She had slipped the image from the ultrasound she had two days before into his briefcase so he would see it when he was at work. She would be joining him for lunch so she hoped that he would see it by then. Around 11 that morning, she headed over towards the hospital and then made her way down the hall towards his office. It was down by the ER so she didn’t have far to go. The door was cracked so she knocked briefly BEFORE PEEKING HER HEAD IN.

she had been working for hours, looking at the same screens over and over again. they were on their way to mars, and she was excited as she could be, but looking at the same screen for so long made her completely tired. unfortunately for her, she knew she had a few more hours to work before she could call it a night and go get some well deserved rest. moving in her chair, she tucked one leg underneath her and rested her head in the palm of her right hand. her eyes continued to open and close every few minutes as she continued to watch the screen. turning her head, she looked at the clock and let out an exaggerated sigh.
“ could that clock run any slower? ” // @tenaciousiisms
she could see the look on chris’ face when the crew was told that mark had survived the fall. he looked positively devastated and it broke her heart. she knew it wasn’t EXACTLY professional to develop feelings for him like she did and that she could get in a lot of trouble for it but as the saying goes, the heart wants what it wants. once everyone went off, beth headed down to the gym to complete a quick workout before she made her way down the hall towards their SLEEPING QUARTERS. before she approached her own room, she stopped outside of chris’ and knocked on the door to announce her arrival. as a sigh escaped her lips she opened the door and let herself in.
“ do you wanna talk? about the news we got this afternoon? I know you’re upset but you shouldn’t blame yourself. ” // @tenaciousiisms
