I've been getting comments like that on shit any time I mentioned I'm Israeli or used Hebrew online since I was like 15. I remember posting a video of myself playing some music on YouTube, and a friend commented on Hebrew, and someone just commented "free palestine" to my friend. It wasn't a Jewish or Israeli song, the comment was host "good job" or something like that, there were no Israeli flags or Hebrew writing or anything in the video itself, you couldn't even see my face.but they felt the need to harass me and my friend - both minors at the time - about a political issue we had no control over. We couldn't even vote. What do you want from us. Imagine going into the comments of an American teen and spamming them with "fuck ICE" when they're talking about a fucking song they learnt how to play. It doesn't matter if it's a correct statement or not, what the fuck do you expect this American teen to do with it? Now what the fuck do you expect Israeli teens to do?

The most ridiculous thing I saw recently online was on r/ScienceBasedParenting.

The post basically went something like this: "My country is currently being bombed and I'm looking for science based tips on how to minimize emotional trauma for my newborn baby. We have loud alerts on our phones, sirens, and also explosions."

The mention of sirens and phone alerts made me suspect this poster is Israeli. I later confirmed it via dm.

But the other redditors automatically assumed they're Iranian, with one of the top replies being:

"I'm so sorry. The United States of Israel is a scourge upon this earth."

It's so funny to me how neo-pagan types in Jewish spheres try to say that the Ancient Israelites used to be pagan as some sort of "gotcha" and that the Evil Sinister Rabbis are keeping this fact a secret and that actually we should all be pagan again like. There's literally a section in the Pesach Haggadah where we say "מִתְּחִלָּה עוֹבְדֵי עֲבוֹדָה זָרָה הָיוּ אֲבוֹתֵינוּ, וְעַכְשָׁיו קֵרְבָנוּ הַמָּקוֹם לַעֲבוֹדָתוֹ", that "In the beginning, our forefathers served idols, and now HaMakom brought us close to His worship." It's not a secret!!! Yes, the Israelites were pagan, and then they decided to be monotheists and to only serve Hashem! That's what makes us Hebrews and not Canaanites!

I can't help but suspect that one of the goals of calling everything a genocide is precisely this: to dilute the term, to relativize it, to diminish and minimize the unique horror of what happened.

Hi that's a great question. Revenge for what exactly? They've been saying it for 47 years and it's not a response to the war.

After the Islamic revolution, which would not have been possible without foreign intervention and the support of UK and America (I believe the president was Jimmy Carter at that time), Shah was replaced and Ayatollah Khomeini came into power.

In one of his most famous speeches, Khomeini declares "Islam is standing only because of blood and martyrdom", claiming that dying or killing in the name of Islam is not a loss but a victory. Now if you had no idea that in and of itself is the definition of Jihad.

This Jihad was used as a tool to overthrow the Shah and maintain the islamic republic. Worry not tho! They didn't want it only for themselves, they also exported the goods to other places, like Hamas and Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda. But it's okay, we can make global crises if it's for Jihad, Islam said so.

You see, even before the war started, IRGC carried out acts of terrorism everywhere, murdering a lot of its oppositions, and taking citizens of other countries as hostages (they literally CLIMBED the walls of the American embassy in 1979 and took the people inside hostage).

Other than that, there's the chants of "Death to America" death to this death to that, painting the flags of other countries on the sidewalk so people would step on it, burning and ripping flags of other countries, spreading false and dangerous messages online (cyber war 🤷🏻‍♀️) and the executives refusing to follow international law and literally turning my country into a Military state.

I don't what part of the world you live in and I don't need to know. But the truth is, for me and My people, we've tried everything already and this is the last option. Even in 1979 revolution they were armed, my people aren't. And everytime we take to the streets to protest and ask for our rights we're killed.

Don't get it twisted. No one likes war but do you know what this has done for us? The killers we thought were invincible are getting their due and none of us are sad about that.

I remember when I was younger, the first time my mom told me my grandpa was a nationalist, that he didn't believe in any political factions, that all you could do was to do good for your country. 

I remember at that moment I wondered why did he care about a nation that let him down at all, why did he stay in Iran, why didn't he leave the country like thousands did after the voting got rigged and he saw how they pressured people into voting for Islamic republic at the booths, how everyone could see your pick and the the papers were coloured (red for no, green for yes) and he could not vote for what he believed. I wondered why he stayed even after the fact, even when he saw what was happening to the country.

I mean yeah he wasn't rich but so many others who left weren't and they made their way and my grandpa, he was so smart and well read and adaptable that he could've made it anywhere.

I asked my mom and she just said "where else would we go?"

I didn't get it then.

I remember when I was in elementary school. During mandatory morning assemblies in the school yard they told us to chant slogans against western countries and Israel, "shout it loud enough so America, Israel, UK will hear your voice" and how stupid I found it because why would I wish death upon people who have done nothing to me and how would they even hear me from a tiny school yard in a small city in Iran.

I remember how I refused to sing the national anthem during flag raising, remember how I hated the teachers as they forced us to go to the prayer room for midday Salat even though I hadn't even done the morning one and how I would just tell them yeah I didn't do "ghusl" since my last period so "I'm najes" and I can't go inside and taint the prayer room. I was barely eleven years old.

To me everything about Iran felt suffocating, so why did grandpa love this damned country? Why didn't he leave?

Now that I'm not under the Islamic law terrorising everyone in Iran, I might have started to understand. As I look at my people, how they show up for the same thing, for an Iran we can actually finally live in, how we’ve finally united and actually feel like a nation,I think I understand. I never hated the country, I never hated the national anthem, I hated Islamic republic and how it haunted my every waking moment. I'm sorry I didn't understand back then, but grandpa I think I get it now.
