studying history is like. here's to another beautiful day of not being pregnant and of having no obligation to ever be. thank you women who fight for abortion and contraception and independance from men for another beautiful day of not being pregnant and of having no obligation to ever be
I’m sure someones already said this but I often see Tumblr described as a hellsite. This is fundamentally incorrect.
Tumblr is the faesite. Everybody is super confused and lost, you keep running into random places. Somehow you end up stuck there forever after interacting a couple of times. The people are all strange, everybody simultaneously seems to be from the future and the past as if time is meaningless.
also technology breaks at random, and sometimes you just suddenly feel a thousand years old
everybody has a half dozen names and none of them are their “real” name.
which name(s) you know gives you different powers over them.
there are Rules but you mostly have to figure them out for yourself.
getting the Rules wrong or breaking them can cost you more than you ever even knew you had.
Maximum Horny at all times
be careful what you wish for or you just might get it

Has someone written the story where Sauron doesn’t do all that swords in the dark art nonsense and just sends the Witch King to Hobbiton to file a lawsuit instead?
It’s not a strategy that would work in any other jurisdiction in Middle-Earth but hobbit law does not recognize wergild and does have the right of first finder, with the time limit being the death of the original owner, which works out great for Sauron who never died (?)
The litigation comes down to “Is this Dark Lord fellow actually alive and if so can he prove it” “has he consistently been alive” “what is being alive, actually, when you think about it” and “has he been making a good faith effort to recover his lost property for the last few thousand years”. All very tricky to adjudicate, especially with the entire Shire peeking into the court room. The whole case eventually gets thrown out when a strange tall man abducts Frodo in the night but it’s quite the philosophical crisis in the meantime.
"Dragonfly Dress" by the House of Worth, c. 1900
Hate a love triangle where character a(gender 1) has to choose between character b and character c(gender 2), and the audience doesn't know who she's going to pick and when.
Love a love triangle where character a(any gender!) is either already with or will undeniably end up with character b(any gender!), and character c(any gender!) is going to fuck it up for the both of them, and the audience has no idea how or how much.
Maybe we're inevitable, maybe we're forever. And maybe you're here, too - forever. Maybe we're both haunted by what you meant to us, how you changed us. Maybe it was never possible, but what if, what if, what if...
Delicious.
I am *still* thinking about Cap's excellent post here because it so perfectly captures what I love about writing Galadriel and Sauron and Celeborn all mixed up together, whether it's as an actual three-way ship or whether it's just as a lingering legacy of what happened or what never happened.
I have nothing against the kind of 'I'm only here to see my OTP get together' kind of shipping, but it isn't usually the approach to shipping that most appeals to me (and not just because I rarely ever have an OTP in that sense of 'only this one'); my most persistent interest in shipping isn't whether the characters will get together but what it looks like when they do, and/or what it says about them that they want to.
And elf marriages last for thousands of years! And Galadriel's marriage is interesting to me in the canonical glimpses we get of it - and while we've seen even less of it in TROP, I'm also interested in how the very fact of a centuries-long absence and the question of how you reconcile your past selves with your present ones is going to affect a future in which he's back. And the next few thousand years of on-and-off mindbattles with Sauron, of Galadriel still being tempted by power that's inextricably wrapped up with his offer... this is what I'm here for
I don't need the TV show to explore all this for me but I cannot tell you how much I'd love it if Sauron finds Celeborn before Galadriel does.
my ig feed gets really oddly specific w the memes
Happy Pride Month to all of my fellow aces!! 🖤🩶🤍💜
Happy pride month specifically to folks on the asexual and aromantic spectrum who oftentimes feel isolated and left out of the conversation. You belong here as much as the rest of us and I hope that you are all loved in a way that is comforting to you.
Romantic Relationship Dynamics
✧ Couples who are bad at the same things together. Neither can cook. Both are directionally challenged. They're a team of disaster and they've made peace with it.
✧ The "will they won't they" where they DO get together and then the story keeps going. Their relationship isn't the end goal, it's just... ongoing character development. They have arguments about dish soap brands. They exist.
✧ Partners who find each other's flaws genuinely endearing, not in a "I can fix him" way. Like she snorts when she laughs and he thinks it's the best sound. He's terrible at keeping plants alive and she finds it hilarious.
✧ Relationships where they're obsessed with each other but still have separate hobbies. He's not joining her book club. She's not learning about his model trains. They do their own thing and reunite for dinner to infodump about their days.
✧ Couples with completely different love languages who actually communicate about it. She shows love through acts of service. He needs words of affirmation. They have a Google calendar and they're making it work.
✧ The "grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one" but reversed. The sunshine character is the one who's secretly a little unhinged and the grumpy one is their impulse control.
✧ Long-term couples who still think each other are hot but also deeply annoying. Yes, he's attractive. Also he loads the dishwasher like a psychopath and they've had this argument for three years.
✧ Exes who are actually fine now. Not friends exactly, but they run into each other and it's just... neutral. "Oh hey, how's your sister?" "Good, how's your dog?" "Dead." "Oh no." And then they move on with their lives.
Tolkien only has two kind of elves: Enderenwen the fair, who's eyes hold centuries of pain and yet his gaze is as kind as the first sun in spring, his mother was a nightingale and his father a seabreeze, flowers grow wherever he walks;
And Finwendulenfinfedë, who has killed half of his entire family and is here to fuck shit up
Sorry for us politics posting, but we have until May 22, 2026 to submit public comment to the FCC:
More info from GLAAD:
https://glaad.org/fcc/
They have some good tips about writing a comment and protecting your privacy which, fuck it, I'll just paste here:
Providing an email address is optional. If you have concerns about privacy, you may use your initials or public address in your local area, such as City Hall. Do not use a joke name. It diminishes the comment’s credibility.
Your submission does not need to be long. A single, well-reasoned paragraph is sufficient.
Do not copy/paste a template comment. The FCC values unique perspectives, and an original comment carries significantly more weight in the public record. You can explain why this matters to you without revealing private or sensitive personal information.
Here's what I said:
“Free speech is a fundamental American freedom. I do not need a warning about seeing queer people, much like I do not need a warning about women, veterans, or any other group of people.”
Here's the link to submit your comment by May 22:

things will work out + it’s still early + not everything is lost + trees

admittedly i know little of the subject but one would think, at 45 years of age, he would be a ryan goose by now
The Noldor should use "craftless behaviour" to talk about someone who's being the equivalent of a modern day internet troll. Someone writes slandering gossip about Finwë in Tirion's gossip rag? That's a craftless behaviour!
