isn't it insane though how schizophrenic people are viewed as violent and dangerous by the majority of society when in reality schizophrenic people are nearly 14 times more likely to be on the receiving end of violence than to be the perpetrators...
1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else
2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people's symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.
also schizophrenic people and psychotic people in general, please do a lot of research before picking a provider for your own sake, and if they try to treat your psychosis in a way that you think is harmful then don’t hesitate to switch providers. your safety and wellbeing should be a priority over everything else.
comment reply to vengeance-paladin by groaaaaan: I think you’ve got personal issues that you’re projecting onto aromantic people.
comment reply to groaaaaan by vengeance-paladin: My having personal issues has literally nothing to do with my statement. Hate to break it to you but I’m far from the only one that sees a lot of Aromantic people as utterly insufferably arrogant and superior because they are Aromantic. Ever seen Gnosia? Racio is a perfect example of how a lot of them act. Utter, unshakable arrogance and self-righteousness.
“Rappers only talk about their money, cars, and clothes!”
Why might someone from a group of people that historically have been denied access to wealth, now brag that they have it?
“Rappers only talk about sex!”
Why might someone from a group that have historically been denied sexual autonomy now brag about their sexual escapades on their own terms?
“Rappers only talk about drugs and crime!”
Why might someone from a group that historically have been denied the more legal means to acquire wealth and had drugs forced on their community talk about their experiences with it?
REGULAR REMINDER THAT IT IS COMMON COURTESY TO SEND AN ASK TO THE PERSON YOU REBLOGGED AN ASK GAME FROM !! THIS PART OF TUMBLR CULTURE HAS BEEN LOST OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS SO PLEASE KEEP ASKS GAMES ALIVE BY SENDING ASKS !!
Standard tumblr ettiquette used to be send an ask one up and one down the chain (i.e. who you reblogged it from and who reblogged it from you) because that ensured everyone who wanted asks got at least one :) and yes anon totally counts!!
Remember the point of ask games is less to talk about yourself (although yeah of course that’s fun!) and more to provide opportunities to get to know others with some icebreakers 💕 if you want to get to know people (mutuals or otherwise!!) sending asks to others in an ask game is a key way to build rapport :) you can learn about their likes and dislikes, share headcanons, check in on life, and most importantly you can chat about their/your answer in the replies of the post - it’s a time honoured tradition on tumblr as one of the key ways to make friends 😁
Transphobia is about to be signed into law in the UK. We can fight this.
I am begging the UK trans community and its allies to attend the Mass Lobby at Parliament on June 25th, 11am-4pm, organised by Trans Solidarity Alliance.
Last year we broke the record for an LGBT+ mass lobby of Parliament. Will you help us break it again? Join us on 25th June 2026 to demand be
The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:
Worried about what to say?
Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. You will also get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.
Money issues?
Trans Solidarity Alliance provides a travel bursary that you can sign up for via the link.
Got a refusal or no response from your MP?
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if they’re already in Parliament. Even if they don’t, they’re made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations can’t provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, men’s rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If you’re a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from women’s bathrooms if you’re perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a ‘third space’ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).
A women’s only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of ‘lesbian’, and therefore no longer have legal protections if they’re discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).
Here is the Good Law Project's better explanation of the EHRC Code.
I have also made a PDF printout of QR codes for the government petition, email your MP tool, and mass lobby link to pass around your communities. DM me and I'll send it to you.
i just don’t think “is dude gender neutral” is that productive of a conversation because a word can be gendered and still used regardless of gender. i call my male friends girlypop and my female friends man but i don’t think anybody would agree that those are somehow not gendered terms.
the real question is just “would you be willing to apologize and stop using a word if somebody told you it made them uncomfortable?” the answer to which in a surprising number of cases is no mostly because it seems like overall ppl r more upset abt getting accused of transphobia than they are abt being transphobic
I love mathematicians so much. No one else is doing it like them. Group of people genuinely only in it for love of the game. Everyone else hates their subject and thinks its boring and useless and these guys are out here talking about how beautiful and incredible and poetic it is with a twinkle in their eyes. No other subject has such a crazy disconnect between public perception and reality. I love it.
I said this in some tags the other day but let's upgrade to a post: happy pride month AND Caribbean heritage month to all queer Caribbeans ♥️ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜 🩷 🤍 🩵 🤎 🖤
Did you know you shouldn't misgender people even if they're problematic or if you dislike them or disagree with them. Did you know that misgendering doesn't become acceptable after a certain threshold and the other trans people around you will not feel safe and will wonder what it must take for you to misgender them too. Did you know recognizing people's identities isn't a fucking privilege revoked by bad behavior. Did you. Did you fucking know
Same goes for racism or ableism like. Hey it really really seems like you're just bigoted and glad to exercise it on acceptable targets and it will make you look bad and I will take your criticism way, way less seriously immediately.
Friendly reminder that adoptees are one of the least-recognised marginalised people in the world. Even though adoption is commonplace. There is unfathomable trauma to being adopted that shakes your world from day one. As an adoptee, please take the time to listen to us when we say that certain things are harmful.
"You're adopted" jokes are harmful. Insisting adoption is always a good thing/nice and rosy is harmful. Using words like "fake" and "real" family is harmful. We are people with complex lives and most, if not all of us, develop some kind of trauma due to being adopted (whether it worked out for us or not).
Don't forget to include adoptee voices and the various intersections we inhabit.
i hope everyone with yellow/missing/crooked teeth or braces or whatever has the most stupendous day in the whole world i love you let’s smile at each other and not be scared
This is a post about real aromantics and real asexuals, by the way. Not fictional characters. "Aromantics can still date" and "asexuals can still have sex" are things that real aromantics and asexuals get told all the time, regardless of whether we've expressed a desire not to have these things. If your first thought seeing this post was "ah, this must be about shipping a-spec characters," then please reread it again with the knowledge that it's actually about a topic that directly impacts real a-specs in real life. The way fandoms treat a-spec characters does matter, but not more than society's treatment of real a-spec people, and certainly not to the extent that so many people should assume that every post about a-spec issues is actually about shipping!
shoutout to loveless aromantics, aplatonics, and afamilials this pride month <3 you don't need to be "fixed", and you do not have to experience any type of attraction or love in order to be real and human.
dreaming of a world in which people know about aromanticism. And by "know" I don't mean "having a vague idea of it's existence", I mean know. I mean a world where an in depth article discussing people's choice to stay single will include an aromantic perspective. I mean a world where people have an understanding of why love, as an emotion, is detached from morality. A world where people will ask you "what kind of relationships do you want in your life?" instead of asking "do you have a boyfriend?". I dream of a world where aromantic people can exist without the constant underlying expectation of being dehumanized, erased and belittled by an unexpected, unassuming comment. I try to create a microcosm of this world around me. I hope it will be easier one day.
