I have noticed in recent years that men say “no homo” way less often than they used to when I was in high school at least. Like I’ve witnessed in media and online and in person adult men just willing to say “I love you” or “you look great” to their guy friends without tacking a no homo onto the end of it.

And if you think that’s not progress you weren’t there in the trenches.

I’ve seen middle aged comedians on national tv sincerely say “I love you” to their friends with no jokes attached. Nature is so slow to heal but it is possible, I tell you. We have planted trees and seen them survive.

in hindsight it's kind of really funny to look at the contrast between buck's relationship with chris vs like...chimney's relationship with denny. especially early on.

bc buck is already treating chris like he's also HIS specialest little guy, his son, center of his world, not just eddie's kid, even if they aren't ready to say it yet. like, chris is already buck's kid by season 3.

and chimney and denny? he's been friends with hen for this kid's whole life, practically. but chimney sits on the front porch waiting to take hen to work while denny sits there waiting for the bus and he's like "hey kid, how's it going" "pretty good I guess. I like baseball now" "cool. I'm gonna drive your mom to work" "okay, see you around" like the normal role a parent's best friend might take.

we can't forget that chimney most certainly knows almost everything going on in this kid's life bc hen tells him everything. but while buck is planning to do everything right every time he's trusted with christopher, hen is probably repeating her house rules like 8 times to chimney before she and karen leave for a date, meanwhile chimney isn't listening bc he plans to break them to be the fun uncle, and denny also knows this. but hen can't do anything about it bc chimney is her best friend, denny's fun honorary uncle, and a temporary babysitter. buck basically has permission to parent christopher alongside eddie. him watching christopher is wildly different than chimney ever babysitting denny. buck listens intently to eddie's instructions, with the intention to follow all of them and keep the rules consistent, mostly. he's a second parent

I went to a restaurant that everyone tells me is the best in town. The chef has been bragging about how great his meals are and the critics haven’t really said too much negative.

A few people have written bad reviews but nothing too bad so I’ve been a couple times and it’s been…okay. But they towed my car once and couldn’t give me a good explanation as to why they did it other than “because we could.” I almost stopped going but they convinced me to keep coming back.

This week, the chef was just bragging about how he’s going going to create this multi-course meal that’s to die for, and we should absolutely save room for dessert at the end. And there been posting all these amazing dessert videos online, and that’s what really clenched it for me.

So me and my friends got all dressed up last night, and even made it to our reservation early. And wouldn’t you know, all the items the chef promised were underwhelming. I asked for wine and they brought me a Coke. The beef dish was supposed to be a ribeye but I got a smash burger instead. The salad had popcorn in it for some reason. None of the dishes were bad, but they weren’t what I expected and I just felt like I was wasting my time.

But then, we got to the dessert course. Finally!

And the server put an empty plate in front of me.

All that time I spent waiting on this part of the meal that was promised and they turned it into a joke by giving me literally nothing on an empty plate.

I’ll never understand why they did that when they knew this was the big draw for everyone and that we keep giving them our business even when they keep disappointing us.

And you know what? I’ll keep coming back until the health department shuts them down.

feeling some type of way about eddie explaining the things buck says to people. “buck was on the pier when the tsunami hit so he’s kinda obsessed with natural disasters.” “he takes christopher there all the time, got the place memorised.” it not only shows how much eddie listens to buck and cares about him, but it’s also him actively trying to get other people to do the same. this is why buck is telling you this, this is why it’s important to him, this is why you should listen to him. pay attention to him. care. it’s obvious how much that’s going to mean to buck, someone who came from a family where he had to fight to be cared about. and eddie does it effortlessly. he cares so much and he wants other people to care too. and like, we know buck will take any excuse to talk about eddie, and this is kind of eddie’s way of doing the same. his way of telling people what he knows about buck by elaborating on what buck says. i know why this is important to buck and i’m going to tell you because he deserves to be heard. it’s all very sweet.

no I actually can't stop thinking about it. tommy never put in the work. he didn't dress up for the bachelor party. he barely indulged buck's halloween antics. he literally got buck basketball tickets as an anniversary gift because he never took the time to actually learn his likes and dislikes. buck offers him a place in his life and tommy runs from it, and only now comes back for it. now that the 'competition' is gone. now that he thinks it's gonna be easy. he wants to have buck without earning him.

Imagine loving a guy so much you almost kill yourself to find his baby boy in a tsunami, you claw at the earth when you think you've lost him forever, you crawl under a fire truck to drag his bleeding body to safety with an actual sniper shooting your way, you accept the fact he put you down as his boy's legal guardian in case he dies with barely a protest, you agonise when he quits being your job partner, you take said son to the zoo all the time, you get jealous like a dog pissing on a tree when he has a new friend, you're there when he begs you to fix something you can't fix and you can only hold on to his shoulder to try and shoot the pain, you go to him the second some ugly man dumps you, you throw a hissy fit about him leaving to Texas and sabotage his house showing, and then, you cave. You cave and you give up your housing situation to help him, you move into his house and you let him go. You let him go because you love him that much.

And he looks at you like you set his world on fire and built it back anew, and you hope he looks through the rearview as he drives away, hoping he'll miss you half as much as you'll miss him.
