thaegeiro:
with a sharp, whining intake of breath, frankenstein slammed his eyes shut. it was not the body parts themselves that horrified him — he was, after all, more than accustomed to the sight of corpses — but rather, the implication of what their discovery meant for his fate. explaining away his presence in a graveyard with a sack and shovel would have been difficult enough, but even then, he might have had a chance at passing off his crime as mere thievery. coming up with a believable tale of why he had a sack of mangled body parts would be a little more of a challenge.
“ —i am a scientist, monsieur. ” that, at least, was not a lie. keeping his head down and his eyes shut, frankenstein shakily continued, “ i am here in scotland for the purposes of research. i can give you the names of the professors with whom i have collaborated; they will reassure you of the truth of what i say. these… body parts are necessary for my research. ”
Jonathan pursed his lips, brows raising in mock curiosity as he leaned forward and pressed the tip of his dagger into the man's jaw, just behind the chin in the soft fleshy part. He put enough pressure into the gesture that Frankenstein would either have to lift his head to look at him or cut himself more on the blade that was pricking him.
A droplet of blood ran down the side of it, dripping off the guard and staining Jonathan's shirt. It hit the cream fabric and spread, staining crimson in an outward pattern.
“A scientist is it?” He chirped, lips curving upwards into a ghost of a smirk. “Science is no so far a leap from witchcraft and with these body parts strewn around you I would say you're looking more like—well a witch than a man of science. A graverobber. Perhaps I should leave you to the mercy of the Scots, they are so particular about many a thing. I doubt they'd take kindly to you digging up their dead.” He flashed a smile that was far more teeth and far more predatory to be anything else but a threat.
