This, and the scene where Gunny Draper smokes the hybrid are my two favorite from this episode.
I know. You’re wondering… what is a place like me doing in a girl like this?
It’s so unfair that the women who led the Temperance movement (which led to alcohol prohibition in the 1920s in the US) are painted as these joyless prudish nags who hated when others had fun, when really their issue was the fact that male failure to responsibly consume alcohol led to the rape, neglect, battery, and murder of their wives and children. They couldn’t stop male violence, but they did what they could to stop what exacerbated it.
And what a great cause it was! In trying to reduce domestic violence and rape, they institutionalized organized crime.
Thank you, Temperance movement, for giving us such legendary women’s rights advocates as Al Capone!
I mean.
A lot of the Temperance movement women were, y’know. Racially, religiously, and socially motivated.
They hated immigrant laborers drinking after work, they DESPISED black bars and clubs, and they sure damn well hated Irish Catholics doing ANYTHING, those filthy Papists!
And I also love how OP apparently doesn’t think alcoholic women and women that get violent and destructive when drinking don’t exist too.
“They couldn’t stop male violence, but they did what they could to stop what exacerbated it.”
>Implying that Prohibition actually stopped alcohol consumption
There’s even extensive scholarly work on crime in just Chicago from 1870-1930 that flat out proves OP wrong. I present to you the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Volume 92, Issue 3. Peruse it. https://scholarlycommons.law.northwestern.edu/jclc/vol92/iss3/
Pay close attention to the Jeffrey Adler article, “I Loved Joe but I Had to Shoot Him: Homicide by Women in Turn-of-the-Century Chicago.” It’s fascinating reading.
And if you would like to download the database to peruse, and filter for your own two eyes, that can be found here: https://homicide.northwestern.edu/database/ (there’s a link in the right hand sidebar to download the spreadsheet).
Happy confirmation bias destruction.

I’m stealing @humming-fly ‘s tags because I’m not original
I’ll bet they took every puffin and covered it up with a porg.
no but that’s literally why porgs exist
Yep. It was easier to give the puffins costumes digital makeovers than photoshop them out.

Good filmmaking guys.
that thing in TV shows where someone is pointing a gun at someone and they cock the gun like 3 times throughout the course of the conversation to show they’re REALLY serious
or when theres a cocking sound any time someone aims at a new target

*gun makes a million different hammer cocking sounds*

No decent hunter uses this gun.
It is not efficient for home protection.
Its only purpose is to kill a lot of people quickly.
A majority of the American people want something to be done about gun violence.
Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers…
Try again, this post is bad, poorly researched, and you should feel bad.
I’m curious, what qualifications do you have to make a statement like claiming ARs are inefficient tools for home defense?
“Always respect the pajamas.” -Generation Kill
Im pro-guns, I have a few myself but??? Srry I dont think that kids should be allowed to buy guns? And i think that for people to have guns designed to shoot other people they should have a mental health assessment??
I hate how this is a radical idea.
Kids can’t buy guns.
A 22 that the Boy Scouts use can kill as well an AR15.
Can you tell me the functional difference between a semi automatic hunting rifle and mean scary “assault rifle”?
For a person who claims to own guns, you sure dont know shit about gun laws.
Really!? Kids can buy guns now? Methinks not. What rock did this fool crawl from under? 🤦🏻♂️
“"Federal law prohibits handgun ownership by any person under the age 18, with a handful of exceptions. But there is no minimum age for long gun (i.e. rifle and shotgun) ownership. Twenty states and the District of Columbia have set their own minimum age laws ranging from 14 in Montana to 21 in Illinois, but in the remaining 30 states it’s technically legal for a child to possess a long gun.“”
That’s false, as an Illinois resident the age to purchase long guns and lomg gun ammunition is 18. However, the minimum age to apply and possess a FOID card is 21 without parental knowledge, but one may obtain one at the age of 18 with parental or guardian consent and is notarized.
Okay, but that just proves OP’s point
At 18 years of age one is considered a legal adult in the great state of Illinois. Tell me, how is an adult a supposed child?
Buddy, the state of Illinois doesn’t represent the whole USA. so, splendid, in Illinois, you have to be an adult. Let’s talk about Montana.
I’m not here to talk about Montana, espically when the source you are using has all ready been proven to have incorrect information. Hard to be creditable when the information is not accurate.
Okay, but people say the national drinking age is 21 but with parental consent and at home, in many states, you can drink at 18.
If you get too hung up on technicalities, you forget that the overall trend is there.
When the source you are using has false or incorrect information, it becomes a non-credible source. Those technicalities you are complaining about are the laws, and yes there must be a clear distinction between what is and is not allowed otherwise there is a grey area. So less you can provide a source that talks about the gun laws in Montana, we will not be discussing it.
Unless you can provide a source disproving any estimates this source provides except the single most conservative estimate, all you’ve proven is that you care more about technicalities than the actual law.
Without parental consent, the age is 21. Same as drinking.
False, again in Illinois the drinking age is 21, regardless if it’s private or public property. This is coming from someone who is a representative of the Illinois Liquor Commissioner. Also, the source is the actual law you dunce. Not some trivial technicality because this is what the law states.
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1657
The minimum age to purchase long guns or long gun ammunition is 18 years of age. Saying “generally” doesn’t bolster your argument when your source is proved to be false.
Yes. It’s a technicality within the law. But, okay. Let’s assume, then, that we subtract three from all the numbers in the chart above if it’s so important to you. That doesn’t make it any better.
It isn’t a matter of reducing the age by any numerical value. It’s about presenting factual information, which the source you are relying on does not.
Gee, I wonder what could possibly be going on in these states that a teenager could be legitimately doing with a firearm? Ranching? Farming? Hunting? Maybe? The world will never know.
Possession =/= ability to purchase. It means if a game warden is out and sees a 14 year old with a rifle in a tree stand, then the 14 year old and parents aren’t getting arrested. Or if said 14 year old is a ranch hand protecting cattle from coyotes, feral hogs, and mountain lions with an AR or AK, then the sheriff doesn’t arrest the kid and the parents.
Wow Disney Channel has really expanded its dialogue.

If your girlfriend, wife, whatever decides she wants to carry a gun and you spend the whole time at the gun store trying to act macho and act like you know all there is to know about guns and you try to pick one out for her…
1. Don’t.
2. Stop
3. The only person’s opinion that matters here is her’s. Let her decide.
Rules for Gun Shopping for Women for Men
Rule 1: Not even being there is a good way to avoid problems.
Rule 2: Do not get to the gun counter first and start pointing at all the shit you want, or want her to want. It makes it look like you’re trying to pull a straw sale and you could make it to where she can’t even buy one. Stand behind her, let her communicate with the salesperson. Do not make them think it is actually for you.
Rule 3: Smaller does NOT mean it kicks less. Airweight J-Frame revolvers and .380 auto Pocket Rockets are very unfriendly to new shooters because of the sharp recoil.
Rule 4: Do not bring your dumbass friends who are gonna start joking about her shooting you with the gun. This could also get the sale denied.
I wanna print these and make signs for the store I work at.
Partner and I have been rewatching The Two Towers for the first time in a long time.
anyway, one thing that has always been weird for me is Eomer giving Hasufel and Arod to random strangers, just like that. Just giving them away, two horses, to a trio of foreign travelers he just met and had suspected of being spies.
like. what? This is Rohan. Horses are the thing you value above all else, I don’t care if their riders are dead, even if their riders don’t have actual heirs somewhere to whom ownership would pass (or Rohirric inheritance law works differently and ownership has somehow defaulted to their éored’s commander, IDK), you’re still a calvary force planning to see a lot more battle in the near future, chances are high you’re going to end up with horseless riders who’ll need them.
this time I actually processed the fact, though, that Eomer believes they’ve inadvertantly killed two innocents, prisoners of the orcs, the beloved companions of these travelers.
The horses aren’t a gift. They’re weregild.
