@overgrownbat
this user could fix severus snape (delusional)
This user could make Severus Snape worse.
they traumatized a man with big brown doe eyes and a slutty waist and they want me to be normal about it ?
Okay, so on the one hand, Snape going alone after the troll makes sense considering he had the job of hunting down Quirrel and seeing what he was doing. On the other hand, the way it was described as Snape being the only one there while all the other teachers went to safety paints a very funny mental image in my mind of Snape grumbling as he dashed around about how they're all exploiting him and hiding behind the youngest of them.
Or the conversation that led to it going like "Severus, go after the troll!" "What, who, me? Why?" "Because you're a fit young man and the rest of us are all old and frail." "O-Old and frail?! Rolanda teaches Quidditch, why can't you send her?" A yell of "SEVERUS" from everyone and off he scurries while grumbling about it under his breath.
Severus being the Youngest Teacher just gives me life ok

The people who think it's creepy for Severus to have held Lily's dead body and screamed his lungs out have obviously never known pain even remotely close to that, and hopefully they never have to.
Putting down my dogs has felt close to that, in my experience. My dogs. Grief and trauma have a way of overriding things like "ick" and "ew" and "well, that's a bit weird." Itās a fully altered state of mind, it's beyond socially acceptable day-to-day etiquette.
As for him leaving Harry in the crib, like fucking duh, of course he did. What was he supposed to do, raise Harry? Kidnap him? Gee, that would look good to Dumbledore. He was in fucking shock and anguish. How do you know he didn't look at Harry at all while in that room? How do you know he didn't draw a blank before trying to consider if he should do something, before he heard Hagrid's footsteps coming up the stairs, and panicked? How do you know he didn't linger outside and watch, his heart torn out over Lily, as Hagrid took Harry and flew off to safety before going to Hogwarts to talk to Dumbledore? Have you ever felt grief in your life? Because it doesn't show.
We literally have no idea what happened. The people who go with the movie scene, see just a few seconds of him walking over James (and looking petrified, by the way), hugging Lily and nothing else and assume the worst as usual and it's so fucking frustrating.
But then...hopefully...it's just kids, man. And it's just fiction. But i had to vent that frustration šŖ

ah. a nuanced story that allows for imperfect victims and portrays the confusing and contradictory nature of being human ā particularly in a context that explores abuse, harassment and trauma. i wonder what people on the internet make of it... oh. oh no. oh no no no no no

since you're into astrology, how do you think the harry potter characters (the ones you care about i guess) are accurate/inaccurate to them? can any of their personalities, decisions, or plotlines be explained by their signs? or do you think the author just gave them random birthdays so they're inadmissible. (forgive me if you've already posted about something like this in the past)
I donāt think she gave them random birthdays, because all the characters actually line up pretty well with the basic traits of their zodiac signs. I have a theory that Rowling is an astrology liker āor at least finds it funā because the characters fit the archetypes of their signs really well. Not so much in terms of how their stories develop, but in terms of personality, which is ultimately what you think about when you create a character and choose their birthday. If youāre even a bit of an astrology nerd, youāll consciously or unconsciously base it on the personality youāve given them, unless you need a specific date for plot reasons. At least thatās what I do, and some writer friends of mine too. If the date isnāt super important, you pick the birthday based on the sign that fits them best, and thatās just how it is.
That said, yeah, they all line up really well. For example, Harry is a Leo, and heās very Leo. Same with Hermione, who is basically the Virgo archetype straight out of the most basic teen magazine description like, if you take the Virgo clichĆ©, you get Hermione Granger literally.
Lupin is extremely Pisces, basically an emotional, self-pitying type with a bit of a nice-guy complex (very Pisces man energy, and I say this as a Pisces woman, but I would never date a Pisces man, I run from them). Sirius feels very Scorpio to me, because he has that analytical, darker nature underneath, also very resentful, very aware of when and how to hurt and so so so obsessed with things and people he loves and so territorial too, but for me heās 100% got an Aries rising or moon. And it makes total sense that heās best friends with James, who is Aries, because Aries and Scorpio are a super compatible friendship duo, they complement each other perfectly and are absolute chaos.
Draco being a Gemini, of course, Geminis have that dual personality, can be theatrical, and socially proactive but also superficial if they want. Molly Weasley is a Scorpio woman through and through: controlling, needing to know everything about everyone, deeply protective to the point of being toxic, very territorial, and if she dislikes someone, theyāre the worst. Peak Scorpio woman. And her clashes with Sirius make total sense, because Scorpio men and women tend to have power struggles, but the woman usually wins because sheās the more intense one.
Luna is an Aquarius, which is known as the āweirdestā sign, very intelligent and imaginative, but also seen as totally eccentrics, which is clearly not a coincidence. And then youāve got the Capricorns like Voldemort and Snape. Severus is peak Capricorn man: straight out of the textbook. Capricorns are ambitious, work-focused, proud of their effort, very self-controlled and emotionally closed off to the point of seeming cold, even if they have huge inner turmoil. Theyāre melancholic and pessimistic. Lord Voldemort is also very Capricorn in terms of ambition, long-term planning, obsession with mastery and excellence, and going all-in to achieve his goals. So yeah, both are very Capricorn-coded.
I donāt know, Iād be surprised if Rowling didnāt at least have a basic understanding of this stuff, because the profiles match really well. Even Ron, who is Pisces, not as extremely Pisces as Lupin, but that whole thing with envy, inferiority complex, internal resentment, jealousy⦠very Pisces man. And again, as a Pisces woman⦠yeah, no thanks. And the twins being Aries, Aries men are all about action, fun, not taking anything seriously. Honestly, theyāre all very well matched.
She also seems to understand astrology well enough to follow along with the ruling planets of signs. The scene with Trelawney telling Harry that she believes he was born under the influence of Saturn in Goblet of Fire comes to mind.
Harry may not have been born under the rulership of Saturn, but he was carrying a piece of someone that was, Lord Voldemort ā a Capricorn.
How could we forget that a damn hippogriff chased Severus in HBP and he ran so fast that the damn creature couldnāt catch him like just tell me you grew up in a rough neighborhood without saying you grew up in a rough neighborhood, what a total chad.
He was literally Mark Renton at the beginning of Trainspotting lmao
Choose life.
We need more fics where Snape making peace with the things that happened to him doesn't mean making him forgive the Marauders.
Some things are just unforgivable, y'know?
