I'm relistening to the book and I'm struck by how blind Ryland is to his own position. Like yeah, he doesn't realise he's important, but he also doesn't realise how much Stratt relies on him as a mediator. She needs him to translate science concepts, sure, but there are also multiple examples of him calling her out for going too far, being an ass, or not having enough compassion.

No one else does that to Stratt. He's the only one she'll take call-outs from.

She relies on him to be her honest checks and balances.

Here are my current Rouge Traders(updated):

Hestia von Valancius. A slightly unstable sanctioned pyromancer who is scared of her own shadow. She is voidborn but lived the majority of her life on a deathworld on the edge of the Expanse. This deathworld is extremely devout to their version of the Imperial Cult.

Hestia herself was a no-name mercenary before she was brought aboard Theodora’s ship. Sure her reputation on her homeworld is terrifying but that is mainly due to her as a fire witch not apart of the temple. But now she is the center of attention and it terrifies her.

She is Iconoclast in the way of she has been given the power to be kind for the first time in her life. And she will be kind. Also her canon love interests are Kibehllah and Heinrix.

Theia von Valancius: a Catachan Commissar that has survived them for decades. She has learned how to survive when the people underneath her will kill her if she pushes them too far. She had just returned to active service in the Guard when the von Valancius ship arrived to take her to Theodora.

Theia is Iconoclast in the more cunning, Commissar Cain way. If she is kind and friendly with her troops they are more likely to listen to her, and more likely to put their lives on the line for her.

She has one type and that is an Inquisitorial Interrogator who clearly will leave her when the Lord Inquisitor tells them to. And she now has plenty of secrets that she cannot tell Heinrix until he goes through Inquisitorial red tape for permission. It would have taken years for him to learn without plot shenanigans.

Gaios von Valancius: an old Arbitrator who was on the verge of retirement. He had a husband and daughter but they were killed about a month before his retirement date. Then Theodora ordered him aboard her ship. He wasn’t really ment to be an heir, but an advisor with experience. But she and Edelthrad died and he wasn’t the only one aboard to inherit the title.

Gaios is dogmatic and extremely tired. He is only running things until a new heir is found(spoiler there won’t be an heir for a long time). His only reason to keep going is to kill Kunrad for slandering his husband.

I love finishing a game an immediately making 2 other characters for different kinds of runs. Now I have an old Arbitrator who just wants to retire, a redo of the scared pyromancer and a crime lord. Need to figure out his deal

I finished Rouge Trader for the first time. I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Also I am immediately making Hestia again to do her with Trazyn’s DLC.

And Theia’s game will continue, and so will another that I have started.

(Of course Ulfar gets Dreadnoughted but I’m glad he is alive)
