LOVED Willow/Oz and would love to hear why you do too!
Oddly, itâs always difficult for me to articulate why I love Oz and Willow so much and I think itâs because I over-relate to [high school] Willow and I think itâs because they were sort of a background relationship since Buffy and Angel took up so much air but despite this they have a fully-formed relationship and there is actual build-up (which Iâll get to later) but a lot of their relationship is through details and I am a person who loves details:
like I thought the Bangel dance was sweet and bittersweet and angsty, Iâm all for that, but I always zone in on Willow and Oz in the background where Willow is just softly stroking his hair, itâs such a simple thing but they have moments like that throughout the series and it builds to showing how much they love each other and express it through physical intimacy. They are always holding hands, it has absolutely nothing to do with plot and itâs not at all centred but thereâs constant contactÂ
Like not only is Willow sitting on Ozâs lap here, sheâs also stroking his fingers:Â
like their next-to-nature touches are constant
Theyâre adorable because they look smitten by each other all the time
thereâs such a genuine affection between the two of them, like when she babbles:
when she says âwe killed 9/10 vampiresâ and Oz quietly corrects her â6/10âł
or when Willow tells everyone around that her boyfriend is in the band
or even the fact that Oz never fails to find Willow in the crowd and smile at her whenever heâs playing. Theyâre just one of those couples where they are so in love in a way thatâs unpretentious and the narrative doesnât beat you over the head with it or try too hard but you watch them and theyâre perfect
and their build-up was great because we spend a season and a half-ish establishing that Willow has an unrequited crush on Xander and that sheâs been bullied by Cordelia and generally an overlooked character and Oz is instantly intrigued by herÂ
and itâs a running theme of him just wanting to meet her.Â
He automatically sees something in her that other people donât. In the Halloween episode, sheâs literally a ghost because of her insecurities and no one can see her and the person who does when she returns to normal again is Oz:Â
and even if we donât see them spend the actual time together we know theyâre doing it:
and we see them both crushing on each other and getting to a point of liking each other, the build-up isnât centered but itâs there:
And heâs patient with regards to her unrequited love for XanderÂ
and this is one of my favourite Ozillow scenes because Oz is confident in himself and in his future relationship with Willow, he makes it clear that heâs interested but he also makes it clear that heâs not here for being second or revenge:
and I mean he literally takes a bullet for herÂ
