I had a high school science teacher who would say "if you admit you're wrong and change your mind..." and the whole class would respond back "... you aren't wrong anymore!"

And when a kid would assert something incorrect In class, he wouldn't tell them they were wrong, he would help lead them to the right answer and then when they admitted/ accepted the new information, he'd say "now we're both right! Nice work!"

For a bunch of gifted kids whose identity and reputation often was staked on knowing more than most people, it was a great safety valve. No shame in making a mistake, because if you accept it you have learned! Now you are smarter! It always made me feel better.

I like Bones a lot because the title character is a woman who is often rude, imperious, and socially inept in a way that is off-putting and Not Cute and she is still treated like a valid human being with positive qualities and friends and colleagues who Get her even when she is being extremely annoying. It's not something one sees often.

And how do you know we can’t be optimistic and angry at the same time. Do you think peaceful protesters are not also angry at the situation they’re protesting about? How do you know we’re burying our head in the sand when plenty of people who are hopeful are literally going to college to learn about environmental science? Yes not everyone will be alive to see a better future, I think we all understand that. Things will be different but it’ll still be okay. Human conflict is an inevitability in life, but one of the ways we’ve survived for this long as a species is looking at the challenges that face us, in all flavors of terrible, and say “Yeah, but I think I can make it though.”

This is real. Also, I had periods for about a decade pre-transition, and those can be debilitating, too, and should be given special consideration if the person having them experiences things like severe pain, heavy bleeding, issues with things like cysts, extreme nausea or fatigue, etc.

guys who the FUCK cares if an author projects onto the characters they’re writing about. the reason fandom is so diverse and nuanced in the first place (and therefore the reason you have so many fanworks to consume at all) is because everyone has a unique view of The Character(s) due to their own unique view of the world itself.

i’ve read some great fics lately and in the comments there’s always somebody that’s gotta be like ‘you can tell the author is projecting HARD’ / ‘such a shame this is so obviously a self insert for their own desires’ like ok? and? is that not what makes this special? that there’s a little bit of all of us in the works we share and consume? that there’s humanity in it instead of just a copy/paste of canon? that maybe you might learn something new or gain a different perspective through the art (which is, coincidentally, sort of the whole point)?

and even if you DON’T, people seem to forget these days that this is why it’s archives > algorithms. not everything is meant to be catered to you, and if it’s not, you’re not obligated to be a dick about it and make it everyone’s problem. in fact I promise it's much easier to just not engage at all.
