thinking about how good boromir is. thinking about the man who travelled for 110 days to foreign land to meet with people he didn’t know on the off chance it could help his country. thinking about how his father “looks to me to make things right and i would do it. i would see the glory of gondor restored”. thinking about the man who loved none so much as his brother and country, enough to give them his all again and again and again. thinking about “do not carry the weight of the dead” because that is all he does. thinking about the desperation in “by the blood of our people are your lands kept safe” and “i only ask for the strength to defend my people” because that is all he ever wanted. thinking about his pleas to allow the hobbits their grief because he understands in a way the others never could. thinking about the pressure he puts on himself to protect everyone around him and the sense of failure he feels when he cannot. thinking about how he only wanted the ring in order to fight back against the evil that was destroying his home. thinking about the pain and pure hopelessness of “they took the little ones-” and “i have failed you” and “all will come to darkness and my city to ruin”. thinking about the man who fought with everything he had until his final breath because he did not know any other way to be. thinking about “i would have followed you, my brother… my captain… my king”, still always looking out for his people and who would be best to protect them.

But Christians DON’T believe that.

God is the reason the universe exists. God created the universe for himself, not for us. God created people to glorify him, for his own benefit. Everything’s about God, NOT about us. But according to atheists, that makes God an egomaniac or something. Well, can’t have it both ways.

True. Good point. But that still means that God created the universe in order to have a relationship with something outside of himself, doesn’t it?

That could be why God created humans. I can’t say positively, the catechism just says “for his own glory” and that seems decent.

There are planets 1 billion light years away that humans will never see; I tend to think that God created much of the universe for himself and has little to do with us at all. “The heavens declare the glory of God” after all, but I don’t see why they need humans around in order to do that. I’m sure that star xyz is fully capable of giving glory to God without the added benefit of human observation.

Just because someone has hobbies or parts of their life that don’t involve you doesn’t mean they don’t love you

God created a universe that extends beyond our ability to comprehend in order to show how much greater and expansive he is than even the universe we struggle to comprehend. He did this as way to demonstrate his glory and majesty. The universe’s mystery and glory are mere shadows of the transcendent omnipresent character of God. In that way, it brings glory to him, and also serves as an illustration of his glory for us.

If you’re Christian and mentally ill, please remember that a lot of “positive, uplifting Christian quotes” are oversimplified. 

“If you walk with God, you’ll never be afraid again!”? Oversimplified. 

“Don’t complain you’re depressed when your bible is closed!”? Oversimplified 

The symptoms of your illness don’t mean you fail at being a Christian. They are just that, symptoms. Being depressed or being anixious don’t make you a bad Christian, the same way a runny nose or a belly ache don’t make you a bad Christian.
