I stan playful/teasing!Seungho so hard goodbye
They're married, Your Honor.
They even sealed it with a kiss.
The merchant officiated it. He just doesn't know it.
me, giving a hug to ByeonDuck rn
we all know that colors have many meanings in mythology and history. in every period of humanity, colors have been used within the framework of luck, abundance, fertility and religious beliefs. psychology, on the other hand, provided various information on the fact that colors reflect people's characters.
when i thought about potn a bit, i noticed that each character is drawn within a certain color frame. so are these colors related to their characters? or gives clues about the unknown aspects of the character?
i have reviewed the chapters and i want to share my opinion
jihwa is drawn with orange-yellow, min green and its tones, nakyum is pink, Mr. Kim is brown, and yoon seungho is drawn with a few certain colors throughout the 77 chapters
nakyum, pink
i don't think it is a color that would suit nakyum's quiet, gentle, non-violent, slightly feminine character more. pink
the son of the head kisaeng, grew up in kiseang home, made and sold erotic paintings, and was to live on the streets. the tragic events in the past did not harden his soft character, on the contrary, they made him a trustworthy person. pink means innocence, trust. it is the hardest color to find in nature. the childlike and immature attitude of pink shows itself in the character of nakyum.
while kisaeng was growing up in his home as a beautiful and talented boy, his noonas showed love and spoiled him. but nakyum also has a sensual, romantic side that she hides from everyone. and the seeds of lust hidden in pink will sprout thanks to someone. aside from his erotic paintings, his hot skin contact with yoon seungho brought his sensual side to the fore even more.
what emerges from the combination of yoon seungho's black with baek nakyum's pink is eroticism and seduction.
yoon seungho, dark colors
Seungho's violent and sarsistic character is definitely reflected in the hanboks he wears as well. Although we have seen it in various colors such as blue, purple and black, most of these colors are in dark or pale tones. commensurate with the emotions the character feels.
purple
it is a mixed color that emerged with the combination of the primary colors purple, blue and red. purple is ambiguous as it is a combination of two colors besides nobility. when i look at the chs where seungho is drawn with purple hanboks, we see that he has behaviors and looks that can be interpreted as emotional uncertainty or more than one emotion(ch 77-34). while wearing a purple hanbok, yoon seungho looks confident bu he is emotionally confused and stuck.
black
this color is the color of death, despair, fear and mourning. during the joseon dynasty, black represented dignity and formality. black also represents power, nobility and authority.
black is the peak color of any dark emotion. seungho's black hanboks represent his refusal to listen to nakyum in 65-66 chs, he is so mad, and offended that he firmly believes that nakyum is running away. and his feelings are too dark to describe. biggest disappointment for him. 67-68. In the chs, after nakyum's trauma and min's revealing the criminal, it is completely representative of the tragedy. he made a mistake and unfairly tortured the person he wanted belong himself. yhe black of his violent character is all aiming at jihwa and bringing death to him.
the injustice he committed against nakyum makes him tremble to the bone, regret covers his whole soul. even though he's scared to death that nakyum will leave him, he puts an expression on own face that he doesn't need him.
seungho's peak of dark emotions, black
blue
blue hanboks are seungho's favorite hanboks. However, the colors of these hanboks are either dull blue or dark tones. for this reason, we cannot see the vitality represented by blue in seungho. the dull blue he wears represents introversion, depression and knots in his soul.
there is a crumbs of hope in this tone. while nakyum was locked in the hut, yoon seungho asked him for a little explanation as to why he had run away. and if the nakyum had told him the truth, he would have believed him. his last shred of hope "im sorry, my lord." run out with.
his dark blue and darker hanbok represent the depth and stability of his soul, the control of his unwanted emotion, his tight-lipped. while navy blue hanboks make him seem calm and sure of what he wants, it actually represents his suppression of emotions. in the chs 52-53-54. Seungho's feelings for nakyum are deep. "special? what nonsense." although he seemed to have kept his complex emotions under control by saying this, he later saw nakyum in pain and his feelings for this lowborn resurfaced violently. seungho in blue hanbok is two-faced. because he suppresses his emotions and is pessimistic.
ch 47, seungho actually reaches the peak of pleasure as he embrace nakyum from back. he can't answer nakyum's question because he can't even admit to himself what makes him so special yet, suppresses his emotions.
ch 54, what makes nakyum so special to seungho is min saying it to seungho's face and seungho suppressing his feelings again.
his hanboks, where two pale blues are intertwined, he is hopeful and compassionate about his feelings. he does not hesitate to take responsibility for his actions. his facial expression is cold, his soul full of concern towards his lover. he is understanding towards nakyum and sweetly teases nakyum with his sarcastic character. although these hanboks represent his affection, he has a hard time expressing it, so he prefers to make tease.
these mixed colors may also represent that the seungkyum couple may be in harmony from now on.
inhun, gray
gray, the characteristic color of inhun, fits perfectly with the concepts that gray represents. this color definitely represents intelligence, dignity, serenity, knowledge, maturity, conservatism, old age and boringness for inhun. inhun's neutral but often manipulative feelings almost complete her in this color. in addition to his mature soul, he expected the people around him to behave maturely for his age, and he always gave them advice.
it's his conservatism that he scolds nakyum for erotic pictures and forbids him to draw such disgusting things. when nakyum talks about yoon seungho's violent character, his scolding him is again due to his conservatism. inhun's gray is accommodating and controlled. so he accepted his help even though he hated yoon seungho
while gray hanbok-wearing inhun has a calming and soothing side to nakyum's childhood, gray is always ambiguous.
seungho who wore gray hanbok in season 3, wants to take inhun's place in nakyum's heart. He states that he will be patient while waiting for nakyum and giving him the peace that inhun gives to nakyum.
jihwa, orange
orange is the color of the sun. indicates that the best period of spring is experienced in nature. therefore, it is the representative of warmth, vitality and joy. jihwa's orange hanboks are a suitable color for his healthy, cheerful and enthusiastic character.
just like his character, his emotions, (especially jealousy) is as vivid and striking as orange. The reflection of his feelings and thoughts on his face and actions very quickly can turn him into a live target, sometimes a victim who looks like a criminal
min, green
green is the main color of nature. In addition to the good concepts it evokes, green has an unknown dark side. fierce jealousy. green-eyed monster envy. 'green' and 'pale' were alternate meanings of the same Greek word. In the seventh century BC, the poet Sappho used the word 'green' to describe the skin of a sick lover.
i can't say that I have any idea what kind of character min has yet. so i can't seem to write too much about it. but again, i associated it with being completely camouflaged. green is the right color to be used to camouflage in nature and not be noticed. i just want to say this as my own personal opinion; i think min is using jihwa's broken feelings for a certain purpose. the idea of nakyum being kidnapped and killed first came from min but all poison arrows point to jihwa. it reminds me of camouflage. like i said, it's just my personal opinion.
mr. kim, brown
it is brown soil and it is the point where all the objects on the earth stand. It provides balance and confidence to objects. When we look at yoon seungho's background, the person he trusts most in the household, mr. Kim.
“are you not my servant, mr. kim?” this sentence is not just a question that seungho asks because he sees him as a servant, it represents trust for him and asks him the reason for this betrayal
seungho is a young man now, mr. kim is still around him and trying to reassure him, trying to make up for his past mistakes. likewise, for nakyum, he is the person who cares most him, in seungho's residence and represents trust and fatherhood.(i couldn't use images due to media limit)
after thinking for a moment about whether colors have an effect on characters, whether they reflect a character's personality, even fictional, i decided to do it. I took a look at something about the mythology of colors (especially korean history-mythology) it could be all my utopia, just an idea.
[MV] 야화첩X안예은 - 야화: 밤에 피는 꽃 (Night Flower) Painter of the Night Soundtrack (EN)
I can't fathom just how Seungho was still able to regard his father with respect and at the same time, disregard himself despite everything.
DESPITE EVERYTHING.
DESPITE EVERTHING.
I can never understand.
Elder Yoon lost his integrity as a father when he abused Seungho for being gay. Maybe not by his own hands, but he was the mastermind of the abuse. I understand it was driven by cultural amd societal norm. But abuse is still abuse. And after all these years, he never even once thought that maybe even just a bit of what he did to his own son was fucked up. He did not regret any of it.
It really just proves how good of a man Seungho is. I'm not glorifying him since he has his fair share of sins especially towards Nakyum. But at least, he's trying to be a proper human being after realizing his mistakes.
The way I see the panels, though, Seungho was being sarcastic about his father being “noble”, just like his statement to Seungwon back in c37
Seungho loathes his father so much that he doesn’t give a damn even if whatever illness the old man has has worsened. He doesn’t care whether the claims are true or not. He will remain in the village as he’s instructed to do, far from any old noblemen so they won’t get him
So yeah, it is highly likely that Seungho says "my noble father” in dripping sarcasm, as he’s known to do at certain times, particularly with that scene with Elder Lee 👀
And that “I won’t speak of this to father” line tells me that what Seungho actually means is, “He won’t speak of anything about what happens in his household to his father”
Seungho never tells how he truly feels, and I assume that scene with Kim was also the same. He tells things that are different from what he actually wants to say
“For there to be betrayal, there would have to have been trust first.” - Suzanne Collins.
Someone throw Kim to the lions please.
What I find odd is that Seungho was seeking Nakyum under the pretense that he admired his paintings
But then he states this in ch 44, plus what we know now about his past:
So how is that plausible when Nakyums main subject for his artworks were bearded older men ?? Atleast from what I can tell in these two pictures
I always wondered what was it about Nakyums paintings that caused this fixation in Seungho
Did he incline towards them because they awaken memories that were better left forgotten due to the trauma inflicted? Was he chasing after the painter responsible for them in order to give some sorta of pay back?
And honestly if his original motive was some form of revenge, it completely backfired on him. But in the best way possible.
So basically Seunghos father thought he could beat and rape the gay out of his son ….Huh, that makes sense. I wonder why it didn’t work tho ?
Okay, Im being extremely sarcastic and not in a tasteful way.
But when you think about it, it’s truly terrifying to know that there are people who think like this. Why do they always find it easier to inflict pain and torture on someone as a form of solution. Is it so difficult to accept others for who they are? And even more if it’s your own son? It’s mind blowing honestly.
But anyways, this big man baby deserved a huge warm bear hug and a fulls night sleep
As for is father, he can continue shaking with anger over this master piece Nakyum painted and Jihwas petty ass destroyed.
Parallels
what they were outcasted for, physical and sexual assault, feeling betrayed and alone, and finally the trauma of the after math
As much as I am excited to hear about Seungho's/Inhun's past, I'm even more anxious to know about Nakyum's past.
Hmmm........
Why was he discovered by the head kisaeng? Was he placed near the residence? Who left him as an infant? Mother? Father?? Why was he abandoned so abruptly?🤔
EDIT: If the season ends up with over 100 chapters then I hope it'll be a happy end!
“So...”
“It seems...”
“They have...”
“Probably met...”
“As children.”
Byeonduck’s livestream tonight broke me
two sides of the same coin
BD said they met when seungkyum was little. BD drew a few spoiler panels on yt live today and in the panels she drew, seungkyum was in the same kiseang house. lord song was sitting on seungho and talking to a kisaeng (probably heena).
idon’t know whose point of view it is but another knot in my mind has been untied. i thought about this panel for a long time, but now I’m sure.
he seungho and possibly his father forcibly brought kisaeng to his home for cure/fix and forced him to have seggs with women. this is part of lord song’s own treatment, which he chose to refuse to go to the shaman the doctor recommended to him.
seungkyum’s pasts are like two sides of the same coin. it’s so tragic because seungho was just screaming for help while nakyum grew up believing the nobles were evil when he saw the noble kicking his noona at the door.
fate did not pity them again while bringing these two innocent children together.
it’s so tragic, same place different points of view. nakyum stands by the door crying and sees a noble tormenting his noona and grows up believing that nobles are terrible people. but seungho only cries for help and tries to run away from what they want him to do
and yes, this is seungkyum’s first met in the past.
while nakyum was safe with inhun, the moon was following them. but seungho was forcibly brought back in and the assulted, which was probably the last part of lord song’s plan, took place.
“the animals, dogs and chickens do..” ‘it’s the cure for what they call it.
i believe heena knows too much about seungho’s past. if it’s kisaeng heena kicked by the nobleman and lord song asks him to have seggs with seungho for a 'fix’, the two must be the same age.
the tragic stories of the two sides of the same coin make this story even more interesting.
Seungho has experienced the worst kind of child abuse the guise of conversion therapy at the hands of his own father - imprisoned, tortured, beaten like a slave on a straw mat,… - it’s not suprising he is fucked up, it’s shocking he is still alive. And he still haven’t given in until the end.
Judging from the purple robe, Seungho comes to Nakyum right after confronting Mr. Kim to seek comfort from him - from his nearness, his scent, his touch,… - it seems Nakyum truly is the balm for Seungho’s damaged soul.
Seungho has wanted desperately for a long time to have someone who would be only his - someone loyal to him, someone to love him. He chose Nakyum and that’s why he used to be so extremely jealous at IH and possessive of Nakyum. Seungho wants Nakyum and his heart to belong to him alone.
Seungho is drawn to Nakyum like a moth to the flame, like an addict trying to stay away but always caves in to steal a few moments to make him survive until he sees Nakyum again. He gives him only feather-like, impossibly gentle touches as if he were afraid he might break Nakyum otherwise or that he wouldn’t be able to leave if he took more. The man who couldn’t deny himself anything has now a control of steal. And then he just leaves, like a fleeting dream vanishing before the dawn.
Seungho gives the word ‘whipped’ a completely new meaning. If he is not with Nakyum, he’s stalking him and eavesdropping on him, curious about everything that is Nakyum and remembering everything Nakyum said. He even plans to make up for the lost time when they didn’t known each other and do with Nakyum all those things Nakyum loved to do with others. He wants to become his family, like the kisaengs used to be. The most poignant thing about it is that he is both pretty much asking Nakyum on a date and planning their future together. Seungho sees himself having a future with Nakyum.
I wonder how long they are going to sustain this pretense, this game they play, where Seungho is aware Nakyum is awake and Nakyum allows Seungho everything he wants to do, with both of them pining for more but afraid to talk about it in fear of destroying the status quo.
It was snowing diamond snow at the end of S2, meaning it was February, now it’s raining and the snow is melting so it must be March. Like can we talk about HOW YOON SEUNGHO, THE WALKING MALE ORGAN, HAS BEEN CELIBATE FOR WEEKS BECAUSE HE’S BEEN WOOING HIS BRIDE?!
I am REALLY pissed off that somebody would upload the new chapter of POTN on YouTube! 🤦🏽♀️ like, why would you do that?!
Byeonduck's live just ended and all I have to say is wow, just wow. Not going to spoil it, and this is out of pure speculation, but—but based on the flashback scene she drew, I think Seungho knew who Nakyum was all along....
