This is just my 2¢ as a nonbinary person but I genuinely think that cis people's gender is just as constructed as trans people's. Cis people love to accuse us of having making up genders or artificially modifying our appearance but....the entire makeup, fashion, diet, workout, and haircare industry exists so that cis people can maintain the illusion of two entirely distinct genders with no overlap.

And yet when radical feminists say that gender isn’t real, it’s just a collection of stereotypes and clothing and accessories we attribute to “male” and “female”, and it’s weaponized to keep women oppressed by making us seem like a totally different species from the stronger and more logical man, we’re called transphobic and threatened with job loss, rape, and murder.

Every other note on this post is in agreement that gender isn’t real, it’s a performance, “we’re all born naked and the rest is just drag.”

But absolutely no one on this post has explained why if gender is fake, biological women aren’t allowed to keep their own sports teams and locker rooms based on sex. No one on this post has explained why if gender isn’t real, we’re not still allowed to have sex-based rape shelters or prisons. If gender is just a performance, then why the need to for nonreversible medications in childhood, or mastectomies at 16. Why the need to change the letters on a drivers licenses or a birth certificate if gender is nothing more than a show, or drag.

How can you all be in agreement that gender is fake, but then demand that sex-based rights and spaces be done away with to suit your gender (which apparently can change by the hour with a new haircut or change of lipstick).

Also, the promotion of Drag Queens as educators of children and “official” ambassadors of gay culture essentially makes drag a uniform. Imagine if just one fucking political group could stop fucking deflecting from the predators in a group they’re supporting by pointing to those in another. Imagine if instead they were just like, yeah, you know what? That’s a legit concern, we’ll put safeguards in place, and since this problem isn’t only with this group we’re supporting, we call on these groups to put safeguards in place as well.

Wages are a business expense, and if a company cannot afford to pay for its labor, it is by definition a failing business. A company stealing labor to stay afloat (without even touching those that do so simply to increase profit margins and/or management/executive pay/bonuses) is no more ethical than a failing construction company breaking into a lumber yard and stealing wood.

i genuinely think porn and prostitution are the biggest challenges for feminism especially in countries where women have equal rights, even though prostitution is obviously a worldwide problem. we can and also have to talk about beauty culture, motherhood, household chores, gender pay gap etc but i really wish there was more focus on the sex industry.
