Hey uhhh so I actually learned about this (kinda) in a thing I had to go to for teacher training. Basically, the upper class has different intrinsic values and the way they view things like money and relationships is different from the way people of the middle or lower classes view those things. What it boiled down to is that

The poor value relationships, because they lack possessions and relationships aren’t a financial burden;

The middle class value relationships, but not to the extent of possessiveness, and seek money to improve their standing and security in material possessions; and

The wealthy seek wealth in the form of the exclusive, such as original art from the masters or super-expensive cars that no one else can afford, and mainly value relationships as a way to create alliances which will secure them more of those things.

There was a whole lot more complex stuff at work there, and a lot of talk about how those things impact your students, but basically what I’m saying is: your instincts are correct. Except insofar as we make money for them, the rich don’t give shit one about anyone but the rich. Obviously there are exceptions, but not a ton of them.

I think finding out that Hitler was inspired by how throughly Andrew Jackson committed genocide against the Natives would shatter or at least destabilize the ethos of the Founding Fathers & America for a lot of people

also the american eugenics movement which started in the late 1800′s was a huge inspiration for Hitler, and was even where the idea of blonde hair blue eyed superiority came from, and the idea of a “gas chamber” to take care of “undesirables”. In the early part of the third reich, the american eugenics movement saw it as the logical conclusion of their ““research”” and republished lots and lots of nazi propaganda

Hitler praised American immigration restrictions in Mein Kampf. When the nazis wrote the notorious Nuremberg Laws, the centerpiece anti-Jewish legislation of the Nazi regime, they specifically modelled them after the Jim Crow Laws, the Citizenship Law and the Blood Law of the United States.

Big chunks of the American legal system and history inspired the nazi’s in their organisation of the Holocaust.
