Dr Gohar Mushtaq writes in equal measure of eloquence and functionality. His book, “The Intelligent Heart, The Pure Heart” is an extensive initiation into understanding the heart based on the Qur’an, Sunnah and Modern Science. (Full book review on the Medium blog!)
Islam is the middle way, between 2 extremes; between anthropomorphism and denial of Attributes; free will and pre-determination; between self-assurance and despair.

Salam! I’ve decided to shift my longer writings + book reviews onto a new blog. (I guess longer posts tend to get buried in my tumblr blog among other memes/quotes which I may reblog).
Please do consider reading. Any feedback or constructive advice/comments are much appreciated. Jazakum Allahu Khayr! ☺️

Can i ask ur opinion Allah tells in the Quran how He showed a miracle to Zakariya عليه السلام by bestowing an offspring in a very unlikely age which was a very impossible thing. Are these just for أنبياء or can we also expect and hope such impossibles to happen with us with sincere dua. You d say with Allah everthing is possible n always make dua but we usually dont see such impossibles happen around us.So are these miracles just for prophets.I ll be really thankful for your enlightening reply
Salam! Thank you for your question. It’s really interesting subhanAllah. I had actually studied this topic regarding miracles/supernatural events in one of my courses last semester. So what is a miracle? Basically when Prophets performed or were granted certain supernatural abilities by Allah-those are miracles. Earlier, there was never any distinction between miracles performed by Prophets and those done by righteous individuals. Later, scholars differentiated between supernatural events of the Prophets (mu’jazah) and those of individuals (karamaat). From the Quranic narratives we can see that Allah inspired the mother of Musa AS, and other examples also exist where Allah reaches out to other than the Prophets. These are miraculous communications. In our lives too, miracles do exist. In the sense that- Allah makes a way out for you where you cannot imagine, or when some khayr comes from something you didnt expect. The greatest miracle is of course the Shari’ah which we have, and following it to the best of our abilities is what can lead the way for miraculous tranformations in our lives-a believer must have faith in this. With regards to certain miracles like Isa AS speaking as a newborn baby, the splitting of the sea for Musa AS- those were special cases for the Prophets. Miracles for Prophets were done for convincing the people mainly, or for support, or protection. But when we read their stories, we’re supposed to be hopeful and expect Allah’s care and help for us in psychologically impossible and difficult situations too. I hope insha Allah this makes sense!
Study Islam to learn and understand. Study Islam to become a better person, to grow and consistently improve your intentions, thoughts, actions and behaviours.
Do not study Islam to sound and look religious and knowledgeable. Do not study Islam to quote Qur’an and ahadeeth as daleels (evidences) all the time and to make people feel terrible about their lives. Everyone has their own journey. May we all learn, grow, internalise compassion, patience and understanding.
