I can't stop thinking, and I have a (rethorical) question; Tiktok loves to argue about Spider. They love to hate him whatever. Long ago, I saw a post with him (I don't even remember if it was negative or positive), but the comments were obviously flooded with arguments about loving him or hating him.
Among the comments one stood out to me, something along the lines of "Forcing the oppressed to take in the offspring of thier oppressor is not the best message."
I get that. I agree. In a way.
But in Spider's case this is so particular. It's almost untrue. Think about it: What else could they have done but take him in?
"But what about the other humans???? Why didn't they take him in????"
They did. It's very obviously in the movie that they did. It's in the comics too.
He had a foster family, but they neglected him. So Norm basically became the number one human caretaker. Then, when Spider was of age and could wear a mask, they let him outside, and he became friends with the Sully kids. Presumably because, when two adults who have children hang out (Norm and Jake), their children hang out with each other (Spider and the Sully kids).
Because it genuinly seems that these were the only two opitions given.
And I feel it such a cruel of an assumption that because the na'vi have been hurt, they should hurt everyone back. I don't understand why (some) viewers are so satisfied by the endless violence of it. I don't understand why they believe it so fundamentally that this child, an infant, a toddler, a teenager (from their own species btw) should be tormented. That he needs to be hurt because it's what he desreves for what he's "done".
And then every argument for it, every time they give an example of what exactly he has done, which deserves the torture, it's not even true. It's an out of the blue example that doesn't make sense.
"He's mocking their culture."
It's the only one he knows. It's the only culture he grew up with and in.

"He helped Quaritch! He saved him from drowing!"
You mean the only adult who's ever shown him attention? The only adult who was there for him? The only adult who pulled him straight out of a torture machine that was supposed to mind-rape him to the point of death? That one?
The one adult who stood up when there was a knife underneath his throat held by a person he trusted? Held by the mother of his best friends? Who he believed in, he looked up to?
