I looked up pregnant dolphin and yeah they are smoother and less âbasketballâ probably for aerodynamics! Makes sense!! The reason I feel like they would be more closely related to the dolphin rather than fish, is that dolphins are mammals, humans are mammals, and if they were closer to fish, i feel as if they would have to have a complete reworking of their organ and body structure. And this also leads into my opinion that they wouldnât have gills, but lungs like humans (dolphins breathe air.Â
although!! In this case, they would need a LOT of lung room, so now that i think about it, merfolk would probably have the majority of their torsos taken up by their strong lungs! So yeah I think your idea of stuff being lower down could work!
And one more thing, another reason I like the idea of mammal mermaids, is that they would have smooth wet skin like a dolphin, which seems like it would blend so much more naturally with human skin, and mermaids might even have all of their skin that texture, even the top half, because its more suitable for the water than regular hooman skin.
(same anon) OR the reproductive system is in the same place as the human, and the other stuff is much lower. I doubt the whole tail is just fat and muscle you know? It would be inefficient to waist that space. Sorry I think a lot about merfolk
in real fish, isn't it just mostly their spine and muscles? i might be wrong tho im not a fish expert ahh, and seeing as how they are FAR larger than regular fish, they must need to have very strong fin muscles to help them swim, just as humans have relatively strong legs? also i turned on submits ahh
would a mermaid have a belly button tho? It might make sense for reproductive parts to be higher up where the navel is I think. No need to be that low if you don't have a gap in between the hips I think
Well, it depends on which method of reproduction you see mermaids having. Personally, I feel they would be mammals akin to whales and dolphins. So they would have belly buttons due to the umbilical cord attaching like in humans. Though if you think they might come from eggs as fish do, then your right they would not have belly buttons!!Â
I think the reproductive organs are lower in humans because they need space for their other organs like stomach and intestines? I'm not sure, but if this is what mermaids looked like, there would likely be a curve so the vagina could be entered vertically like normal. in humans, of course, there is a nice lil gap between the legs.
why do people think mermaids wouldnât have genitalia???? just follow the natural curve of the body, you cowards.

I like to imagine that they DO have periods, but since countries age differently, they are MUCH FARTHER APART. Itâs a lot more manageable to have a period once a year or maybe more. ahaha
