Tips For Dealing With Hot Weather 🌞
💧 Drink LOTS of water! Even if you think you've had enough, it's better to sip fluids regularly to maintain hydration- especially if you have a chronic illness, are vulnerable in hot temperatures, or take medications such as certain antidepressants. Here are some kid-friendly ideas for drinks to help you cool down
🧦 Wear light layers and less clothing! Shorts, t-shirts and sandals are good options, as well as light, flowy fabrics that don't retain heat. However, if you are in the sun a lot, long sleeves may help to prevent burning
🧸 Some plushies and stim/fidget toys may be able to go in the fridge or freezer! Please check the labels on your toys beforehand, or information on their website to make sure certain toys are suitable to be refrigerated for a short time to get nice and cold for you to cuddle or use
🏊 Keep cool! Placing your feet in a large bowl, tub or basin of cold water can help regulate your body temperature. You can also place a wet flannel/cloth on the back of your neck or your forehead. Ice packs, fans, cold showers and air conditioning also work wonders
⛱️ Limit the amount of time spent outside in direct sunlight! From late morning to late afternoon during high temperatures, it's best to keep cool indoors if you can. If you have to be outside, try to stay in the shade and wear a sunhat, suncream and sunglasses to protect your body
🍦Eat enough food! Especially after being in the sun, I feel the need for a sweet snack and a salty snack as I often start to feel faint and headache-y. Any food is better than no food, so if the heat is really getting to you, please try to graze on something small now and then if you cannot prepare meals
