I need everyone to chill out because all of your discourse is in the way of my Avery and Lyra friendship dreams
Legitimately what it’s like coming back to this fandom having not been involved since The Final Gambit
My drafts are full because the inheritance games/grandest game fandom sort of truly scares me and I don’t want people to come for my throat for my opinions or take a joke the wrong way lmao. Like why is everyone so miserable? Why does everyone take everything so seriously? You guys frighten me 😅
The Hawthorne brothers are ''pick me'' and ''I'm not like the other girls'' but no one is ready for this conversation
jameson's pov chapters are just him desperately trying to hold back a massive panic attack let's be nice to him
How it started: a billionaire dies and leaves you all his money, eccentric puzzles and riddles left by said billionaire, attractive grandsons, love triangles, teenage drama with a little flair, etc.
Where we ended: secret cult of female assassins, memory wiping, faked deaths, secret societies, etc.
I’m only exaggerating a little when I say that this series somehow took me on a riverdale-esque journey.
This fandom frightens me
Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a boy mom irl and I can tell because she insists on devoting so much time to the Hawthorne Brothers when basically any female character in this series is infinitely more interesting than all of them combined

The way I feel about Javery (and lowkey Lyrason don’t come for me Grayson has just been annoying me a little lately lmao) is the same way I feel about like the boyfriend of my best friend.
Like there’s not technically anything wrong with him. He clearly loves her and she seems happy with the way he treats her. But my loyalty will always be to her (Avery and Lyra in this case) first and foremost and my acceptance of him is 100% conditional to her. Like she is way out of his league and could do much better (because she’s out of everyone’s league and no one is truly good enough for her). But like I tolerate him I guess since she seems intent on keeping him around and he does make her happy.
My confession is that I like Lyra Kane better than Lyrason.
Like I don’t dislike Lyrason at all but I also want to read more about Lyra apart from her dynamic and relationship with Grayson. Because she was introduced later and immediately paired up with Grayson, I just feel like jlb has kind of written her into a corner as Grayson’s love interest when I know that Lyra is so much more than that. Like my favorite Lyra moments are all when she isn’t with or thinking about Grayson at all lmao. Explore my girl’s depth further please I beg.
the concept of having both of your only major recurrent Black and latine characters grow up and live with the white american part of their family and have little to no connection to the Black american and latine community and culture they belong to. the concept of having your only SEA character be raised by a white british man with no connection to his culture. the concept of having two main characters in the same book who both grew up disconnected from their cultures and identities to the extent of it being ambiguous what country they're even from and doing nothing with it because the goal was to have "poc characters" and never actually putting in the work to write diversely. lol
While we’re at it let’s not ignore the way Max is written (and don’t get it twisted I love Maxine Liu with my whole heart like she is one of my fav characters) but she very much falls into the ‘disposable poc bff’ trope. Like for being Avery’s oldest friend and the girlfriend of one of the Hawthornes (the only poc Hawthorne might I add) she is shockingly absent in Avery’s life and the story. On top of that jlb definitely leaned on Asian stereotypes to write her character (i.e. parent is a doctor, strict parents, etc.)
Also let’s not forget Alisa Ortega because she definitely falls into the poc of ambiguous origin bucket. Op is right jlb includes poc characters but only it seems to check off a box, she doesn’t actually write them with diversity or depth in regards to their poc status in mind.
“Don’t spam my likes, don’t put too much in my asks” bruh what I love attention spam the fuck outta me put what you had for breakfast in my asks
