It's kind of wild how in the 21st century when it's not even that unusual to live to be 100 years old anymore, that people will say stuff like "life's too short for not getting over your ex" when someone's been bummed about getting dumped for like a year or something, when in like 1800s a guy could make mourning the love of his life his whole personality for 20 years straight before dying of an infected cut at the age of 46 and nobody could do or say shit about it because that's just what people are like sometimes. And she didn't even die, she just got married to someone else.
i think a lot of poeple think of racism and sexism as something you have to actively opt in to perpetuate rather than something you have to continuously actively opt out of if you want to maybe help dismantle it
The load-bearing difference between people who hate me and the people who don't is their willingness to believe that I really don't do all of my infuriating bullshit on purpose.
THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING TO GET YOUR MEDS BEFORE THE PHARMACIES CLOSE
they are going to be CLOSED OVER THE HOLIDAYS and so will the DOCTORS WHO SIGN YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS.
if you don’t have enough meds to last the next THREE WEEKS, put in for your repeats and refills tomorrow! that’s Wednesday! do it! don’t go to hospital at New Year because you ran out of stuff!
it’s that time of year again! get your meds!
audiences have no idea how to be uncomfortable anymore
watch movies that make you uncomfortable read books that make you uncomfortable go to plays that make you uncomfortable watch tv that makes you uncomfortable look at paintings and sculpture and artwork that makes you uncomfortable. it is spiritually and morally and ethically and artistically really really good for you. think about why you are uncomfortable. what biases do you bring to art? what biases does the art bring to you? how do you reconcile this? how does your worldview grow and expand and change? all this and more will be answered and available to you if you just engage with art that does not coddle you and treats you like an intelligent human being that can sit through discomfort
*sinking my teeth into my own flesh* I’m working through it-
Netflix has a lot of nerve crying and screaming and throwing up and having a tantrum about how password sharing is killing their business and making them hemorrhage money and how they're just struggling to stay afloat, then turning around and spending 72 billion dollars trying to become a monopoly by buying fucking Warner Bros
When your parents say they would have given you more help and support in your childhood if they had known that you needed it, but you know that they wouldn't have done shit if you'd have asked for some:
The Hague, Netherlands: Spanish street musician Borja Catanesi and the 68 year old dancer from The Hague mr Roland Parijs
imagine just playing your guitar and you come across the FUNKIEST grandpa

As fucked up and traumatized and emotionally unavailable as my father was… he fuckin tried. He tried so goddamn hard. Went to PARENTING CLASSES on HIS OWN. Taught himself HOW TO READ so he could read me bedtime stories. He taught me how to be independent. How to stand up for myself. How to fight back. He taught me how to not need men like him.
My dad broke down in fucking tears once because he wasn’t doing (in his estimation) a good enough job of braiding my hair before school
This fucking guy got dumped by my mom in the middle of the night. She just fucking ditched both of us. He became an alcoholic from the pain, can’t blame him. But then he saw the way it was hurting me. And he pulled his shit together. HIMSELF. No rehab. No AA. Stupid motherfucker went cold turkey at home alone except for me and I held his hands while he begged god for mercy through his DTs.
Dad would fuckin play Mockingbird for me because he was so bad with words and needed me to know how he felt.
My dad taught himself how to read at the age of like 45 so that he could read me Harry Potter as a bedtime story after my mom left and it still makes me emotional. Like he cared that much.
And also. You can tell when someone is either proud or ashamed to be a girl dad. And my dad was so fucking proud. He had trouble saying it, he’s maybe only said it once or twice to my face, but I can tell he’s so proud of me
After I came out to him as bisexual, I brought him a pride flag that I had gotten at a parade… it’s still, to this day almost a decade later, hanging on his dining room wall.
"Accident Report in the Tall, Tall Weeds" - Ada Limón
I went to this Northwest Passage museum once where they had the white explorers' journals on one side of the exhibit and the native people's accounts on the other side of the exhibit and the explorer journals were like "our canoe had almost sunk when we encountered some kindly Indians" and the native histories were like "we watched a bunch of strangers come down the river in the shittiest canoe you'd ever seen. Also, they had no rain gear"
You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"
And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."
And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.
God this makes me think of this screenshot:
"it minimizes you as a person" really wraps up my entire discomfort with the whole "oh but i'm just a girl" thing when used in most situations.
