TRINITY SANTOS & FRANK LANGDON THE PITT 2.11 – 5:00 P.M.

this scene is SOOOOOO fucking gooooood I wish everyone was media literate. the way langdon has clearly been planning and practicing this speech for months and still when it comes down to it this is just not that great of an apology. he almost immediately gets defensive and starts trying to prove that actually he HAS suffered enough and he's done the penance and even tho he says she doesn't have t to accept his apology, as he's literally following his steps to a T, he clear belives he's earned it. he also does not thank trinity for in effect saving his career and maybe life, both by forcing him to face his addiction and by not reporting his activities to anyone higher than robby.

but then on the other hand there's santos, who is clearly not being rational in her desires. langdon represents the people in the past who have been able to abuse her without consequence, and she clearly has a very firm understanding of justice as a result of her past trauma. whether she genuinely believes what langdon did is deserving of jail time is kind of secondary to her belief that he needs to face the consequences laid out for him by the system, bc that's how it's supposed to work. on a more selfish level tho when she admits shed hoped shed never have to see him again, we see how personally, he actual consequences langdon faces may come secondary to her own comfort. langdon clearly triggers her, and if he was fired as he technically should have been, she wouldn't have to deal with him anymore. on top of all that we also have santos referring to langdon being welcomed back with open arms, which is obviously not entirely accurate as weve seen how standoffish robby has been to him, so again we see some of that unreliable narrator poke through like we saw last week with the garcia argument.

but this scene also adds a whole new messy element i havent really seen talked ab, which is that robby hasnt reported langdon for stealing drugs, but neither has santos! santos is clearly angry and uncomfortable langdon is back, angry he didnt face the full consequences of his actions, and yet she didnt go above robbys head like she mentions she should have and she has gotten along with Robby the best of basically all the characters shes interacted with this season. this creates a whole question ab her relationship with Robby: is she not reporting langdon to protect Robby who is both her boss and snd extremely temperamental authority figure she's watched turn on other staff? It adds an entirely new insidious undertone to their relationship. is santos actually terrified of robby turning on her like everyone else? and is that exactly what al-hashimi finding out and questioning robby will lead to?

my favorite thing the pitt does is how they have characters take out their frustrations on eachother. santos angry langdon didnt face harsher punishment bc of her personal history with those who mistreat her going unpunished in the past, robby angry at mckay for missing roxie's death bc he's actually mad he had to witness and sign the death certificate (and have a moment of solidarity with javadi, who he remains fond of even as he grows angry at everyone else). langdon still being mad at santos despite her likely saving his career bc he still resents the fact he was found out even as therapized and logical he tries to be ab his recovery, she represents that. dana not being able to give anyone an inch of true comfort bc shes still struggling with her own trauma GOOOD its so GOOOOOOOD

I hit a pothole (a Michigan pothole so basically a sinkhole) today and my check engine light came on.
