I was debating making a tmbd blog for a while, and drew the line of decision at 'if I make fanart and/ or an OC' and now I've done that.

Murderbot is actually the thing that made me discover Tumblr in the first place, and as a kid I would spent hours scrolling on the tags without an account. The discord server was one of the first I joined, too, back in 2021. It was a really great way to be introduced to fandom on the internet, and I still appreciate the things I was taught today.

So hello, world, and I hope that my scattered offerings are acceptable to you.

Much could be said on the specific diagnostic traits and symptoms that inspire my reading of Murderbot as a schizoid, but it hit me just now:

its designation and function is Security Unit. SzPD is fundamentally a disorder that revolves around security, or more specifically, a lack of security as caused by interactions and [gags] relationships with others.

Who better to be a security droid than a schizoid? Who better to be a schizoid than a security droid? It fits so perfectly.

I signed up for the TMBD server gift echange for the first time, and wrote 3 fic prompts I like so much I can't stop thinking about them. I might even post the 2 my gifter doesn't use once the event is over. Murderhelion is hitting me like a freight train in the brain right now

Muderhelion fic idea where it's a "what if they were both human" AU but instead of something like a coffee shop AU they're both still the same amount of unhinged. MB is an escaped child soldier freelancing as a bodyguard and ART is a university professor academic who moonlights as a spy and getaway driver for an anticapitalist terrorist organization. Each of them have warrants out for their arrest in various countries. They're both still genderless and use it/its pronouns. Do you see my vision

rereading artificial condition (again) and the scene where Tapan sleeps next to MB in the hotel is killing me. like. what if your entire view of yourself was predicated on the fact that you are a dangerous killing machine. and then a tiny squishy human curls up next to you because you make her feel safe. what then

Cyborg, robot, and AI characters that had parts of their code forcibly altered, personality alterations, memory erasures, and so on that were done to better control and use them as tools, I diagnose you with ramcoa/tbmc coded

I love a character raised to be a weapon as much as the next guy. But what really gets me is a character raised to be a shield. Who can’t fathom being needed—or even being wanted— beyond keeping others safe. Who believe they are alive only to insure someone doesn’t die. no matter the cost. Characters who self-sacrifice not because they think they deserve it, but because no one else does deserve it, and it’s their job to protect.

Characters who’ve been told that’s why your important. Your worth something because this other person/ thing is important, and you are here solely to keep them safe.

Bonus points if it’s not a legitimate job they’ve been given. Maybe at one point it was, but now that they are free from it, they haven’t given up that mentality. No one is forcing or asking them to do this, but they need to. They need to in order to be deserving.

Someone once explained that it has a mentality of the world being made of "people who can protect" "people who need protection" "people they need protection from". Of course, it's in the first category. And that's where 90% of all of its problems come from

[Continuing a little relating to how ParaUnit prefers or doesn't to be addressed]

I think it would just go with whatever's the path of least resistance to completing its functions.

If it's around SecUnits, and someone addresses the group of bots like 'hey girl, get over here', 'lady, someone needs help', 'I need her over here', ParaUnit knows they're Obviously Talking About It and not the hulking armored bots that are able and willing to snap someone's femur one-handed.

A human bleeding out or going into cardiac arrest is worlds more important to it than saying "Actually I'm not female" and so it doesn't care.

Of course, if a patient is getting overly friendly based on [romantic, etc] preference for women, then its distance adjustment module would kick in and it would remind/ correct them about it actually being sexless.

But it doesn't care. Call it girly, call it a useless f***ing hunk of stupid metal, just hold still while it applies your tourniquet, thanks.

I guess I wouldn't mind if it was called "she" but in the same way that people will call MB "he" because it's made for security and the association is security/authority= male. Para is a field medic/nurse and the historical association is nursing/caring= female. That doesn't mean the bots are actually male or female, just humans' knee-jerk cultural associations with their professions-- at the end of the day, they are "it"

(We often mention how ART can be creepily omnipresent, but I think SecUnit's general thought process (and also constant embarassment with itself) in text often masks the horror potentials for third parties.)

And, like. The PresAux gang actually puts up with a lot, their ability to keep friendships in the broadest sense of term possible is impressive, because here is their friend: sits in the far corner chair for the last 13 hours and watches the wall; plus probably some weird-as-hell bootleg cartoon which it acquired from one of Dr. Mensah's children; and also each and every one of you via cameras and the drones following you almost everywhere semi-stealthily (it's not really stealthy when the drone makes a meter-wide circle around you to take a better look at what are you doing.) Please ignore that. It can watch you all it likes, but you should keep your eyes away from it and especially its face, it's self-concious!

Also it has access to your feeds, yep, the encrypted ones, too, it may be reading the dialogue with your friend about how you're creeped out by the security in this survey right while you're composing your next message. There is even a possibility of it barging right into the private dialogue with an excerpt from its job contract claiming its right to do so for security purposes, because of course it's legit to hack into your private feeds if it's for your own safety, why did you expect something else.

Well. It also finds most of your talks boring and human bodies gross, so here's a pro side: 100% no surveillance in bathrooms and barely-there awareness of bedrooms and kitchen! That's exactly the privacy you wanted, right?

You honestly don't know on what evidence Dr. Ratthi considers SecUnit his close friend, when you haven't seen them talk out loud more than thrice and it doesn't even let him touch it. Apparently it has wry wit and makes very funny Sanctuary Moon references sometimes.

…and then the survey goes to shit. And suddenly the sullen presence you've gotten used to ignore explodes into motion.

I love hearing external description/ meta of first-person inhuman narrators, it's the best.

Because, yes, from their own perspective, they're just normal. They look normal, they talk normal, they act normal, they have normal wants and needs. It's humans that are the weird ones.

As someone who is so similar to these characters, and therefore unable to see them externally, it delights me to see this kind of meta.

NOTE: You may wonder why ART looks this way. It's because I wanted to show a few aspects. First, artificial intelligences are not constructed. They are grown. Cultivated. So I wanted to reflect that with undeniably biological aspects. Second, ART's digital nature, with the glitch effects and code lines. Third, ART's sheer 'otherness' and holy-fucking-shit-shitshitshit factor, for which I used inspiration from Abrahamic angels. Only in this case, ART isn't saying 'be not afraid' but 'be VERY afraid'.
