Baatar sighed as he made his way back into his home. Whom he shared with Kuvira and Korra. He didn’t know how he had found himself in a relationship with the former Great United and the avatar both. It was somewhere along the way Kuvira had suggested inviting Korra into their relationship. He hadn’t been sure why he had agreed to it but he had and now all three were together. Though at times it sure didn’t feel like they were all together. Many times Kuvira and Korra would be off in their own and he had felt more like a third wheel or a live in handman/maid.
Recently he had felt the like the odd ball out of the relationship. The two woman seemed more then content on being without him. Even when he tried to voice his lack of being included, he was either blown off by the Avatar or his words flew over Kuvira’s head. She told him often that he was just as important as Korra and he shouldn’t feel the way he did when they were all equal. Baatar looked around the living room when he stepped into the house. He immediately noticed that the dishes he had asked to be washed were still in the sink.

Even though they were further away, Baatar could still hear them. Of course Kuvira could bend in the pool. It would just cost them a couple hundred dollars for the repairs. Laying on his stomach on the giant floatie turtle duck, Baatar used his arms and legs to propel him around the pool. He had to admit that it was nice to be lazy in the evenings. Something that seemed like a rarity nowadays
The trio finished up their time in the pool before retiring for the evening. Kuvira and Korra both retired to separate rooms for the night. After laying down Korra had drifted off in a matter of seconds having been exhausted from the long trip and the fun upon arrival. Her sweet slumber quickly turned sour as a nightmare began to rage on in her dreams.
Korra shot up in bed shaking as her chest heaved. It was just a dream… Just a dream.. Zaheer was in jail… The red lotus was gone.. Raava was here with her.. Vaatu was gone. Then why did it feel so real? The avatar looked down to notice the vice grip she had on her bed sheets. She could feel the strain in her hands from holding them so close. She just needed to get a drink of water. Korra released her hold on them and got out of bed. As her feet made contact with the ground they crumpled sending her straight onto the floor. There was nothing wrong with her legs, the poison was gone. Then why was he body acting like this? Panicking Korra pushed herself up using the edge of the bed.The avatar made her way down the steps and into the kitchen. She didn’t bother to turn on the lights as she got herself a glass of water to drink.
Pool time had been very relaxing, when it had started to get hard thought, Baatar headed back indoors. His eye sight was poor enough without his glasses. Add the darkness in and he would be practically blind.
Instead of having gone to bed, Baatar has sat on the couch in the living room adjacent to the kitchen. He wasn’t too tired yet even after a long day of traveling and spending the majority of the evening in the pool and sun. With just the lamp on beside the couch the room was quite dark. At some point he must have fallen asleep. The sound of someone in the kitchen jolted him awake. Pushing up his glasses that had slipped down his nose, Baatar squinted to see who was make noise at this late hour. It took him a moment to figure out if it was Korra or Kuvira. The outline of the bob gave away the identity of the person.
“Korra?” Baatar called out, “What are you doing up this late?”
Korra had been in the middle of trying to calm her mind when the voice cut through the seemingly empty space. The sudden entry startled the avatar causing her eyes to glow for a moment before returning to their normal hue. She needed to relax, it was just Baatar. There was no reason to be alarmed she lived with him after all. Her anxiety from the nightmare must have spooked Raava as well. She wasn’t in any danger then why didn’t she feel any better? She took in a deep breath to compose herself before turning towards the entry to the kitchen.
“…S-sorry, did I wake you?” The avatar began her voice faltering.
She tried to fake a smile to hide her anxiety as she dodged his question. Her voice sounded small and far away even as it left her mouth. Korra was thankful for the mask the darkness of the kitchen had created. Looking over at him she could see his silhouette along with a few key features but the rest was concealed. Silently Korra hoped that the dark had given her the same aid.
She tried to keep her breathing even but her heart wouldn’t slow down. What if something happened? What if she couldn’t protect them? What if? At some point Korra wasn’t staring at Baatar anymore. She was looking past him, through him, gradually imagining the horrors of her nightmare.
“No, I was just reading over there,” He said pointing to where the lone light filled the darkness. The brief flash of white did not scare him, he had been held hostage by her before and did not feel an ounce of fear back then. He wasn’t sure but something felt off with how the avatar talked. Her voice did not come out as confident as it usually did.
Though it was dark, his other senes were more alert now. Though the outline he could some how tell the avatar was no longer looking at him. But staring at something behind him. He knew that there was nothing there besides the empty room. Maybe she was having some sort of episode? He had heard a few years back after she had been poisoned by Zaheer she would have episodes of what he assumed was reliving the moment she had been poisoned and crippled.
“Are you okay Korra?” He asked taking a few steps closer to her. But not too many he didn’t her to feel trapped. “You don’t sound like your usual self, is something bothering you?”
Baatar’s voice had faded into the background as Korra stood there. The avatar closed her eyes pushing the nightmare behind her before opening them once more. No one was hurt, she was fine, Baatar and Kuvira were both ok. Looking up now she realized Baatar had gotten closer to her. Could he see the beads of sweat on her brow or the panic in her eyes just a moment ago? She stood there for a few moments before realizing he had asked her a question.
“Huh?” she began. “..Sorry.. I just...”
Did the room feel smaller suddenly? The once spacious kitchen now felt dwarfed in size. Yet at the same time the walk to the stairs felt like it was miles away. And the air had it always felt this thin? Her lungs felt like they were doing overtime yet she could barely feel anything coming into her lungs.
