someone once said that labor traditionally done by and expected of women is considered art when men do it and i think about that every time i see a dude chef talk about using his grandma’s recipes in his 5 star restaurant

“Why did Ellen forget the classic exchange? I mean the one where they say But aren’t you for human liberation? and you say Women’s liberation is for women, not men, and they say You’re selfish. First you have to liberate the children (because they’re the future) and then you have to liberate the men (because they’ve been so deformed by the system) and then if there’s any liberation left you can take it into the kitchen and eat it.”

My cat has to wear a cone this week and it made me think of an angel whose halo is a cone.
Local idiot is cone-free and back on his regular sillyzone nonsense.
I am obsessed with the theological implications of this
thinking about when i was small, how my mom told me that pipe cleaners were just a tool until people started idly shaping things with them and it grew so popular that they were marketed as crafting materials. and that story about how the original frisbees were disposable pie plates that students flattened to throw. and how when i was a child i had a wooden mancala set with shiny, colorful stones, but on invention it was played with rocks and grooves dug into the dirt. and middle school, paper football and tic-tac-toe and mash and mad libs, games that just need pen and paper. and before that, games of pretend with pirates and princes and masked marauders. how at slumber parties after lights out, we used to whisper storytelling games, i say one sentence and you say the next. and shadow puppets. and the way all the kids in the neighborhood used to divide into teams and throw fallen pine cones at one another. and the floor is lava game, and the quiet game, and the games i play with my coworkers that are just words and retention. and "put a finger down" on the high school bus. and little girls clapping together, and how the first jump-rope was undoubtedly just a length of rope who knows how long ago, and how natural it is to play, how we seek play at every age and with any resources we have and with whatever time we can squeeze it into in a day. i'm not an anthropologist or a psychologist but i think after food and shelter and water and air what comes next is games and stories and laughter. i think that there is nothing -- not sex or fighting or forming unlikely bonds with animals -- there is nothing more human than to play.
sometimes i feel like women as a class forget that men can lie. so many times i’ve heard my mom say ‘dad says x’, yeah he lied? or my friends will be like ‘he said he sent the email’, yeah he lied? or posts are like ‘he believes in feminism’, one look at his search history and you know he’s lying.
men can, do and will lie to women and girls all the time. it’s not even always lying, men make up shit all the time and just think it’s the truth, like i read at least one article before i have an opinion but my dad will just make up random shit and be like ‘yeah this is what the law means’ like no, that’s not what the law means, i have no idea where you learnt nonsense but it’s nonsense.
Evopsych is my favourite example of this. 99% of it is just men coming up with the wildest shit. “women like pink because they are naturally gatherers and need to find pink/red berries” or “men love women’s breasts sexually because when we walked on all four on the savannahs, men saw womens butts and they kind of look like breasts. That’s why the heart symbol of love also looks like a butt/breasts” - I’m not joking about that one, I’ve literally heard a grownass man state this in a university class. I was speechless.
Any time a man claims any innate behaviour of men and women you know he got it from his Myass University studies
If you’re in higher learning, you get there by being the world’s expert on a tiny slice of your field of study. Women in higher learning have the universal experience of seeing decades of their hard work, meticulously collected results, carefully considered conclusions of said results, all pale in the face of Some Guy with An Opinion. It might be a colleague, a student, or just some guy on twitter/in a bar. But eventually it happens and normally it’ll happen a lot. Ask any old school female professor about it.
hello i like you a lot, do you like me too? [ ] yes
[ ] no
ps. ignore the foul homunculus i brought into being to deliver this message, i am a little shy. this is the wizard from spanish class (you know the one)
*marks the paper yes without reading the ps. I am now dating your homunculus*
dear diary,
it fucking happened again.
Men have singled out women of outstanding merit and put them on a pedestal to avoid recognizing the capabilities of all women.

what tape recorder should I use to record shit???? how do I connect it to my computer and make it think it’s a headphone player? Can I record music losslessly this way???
Try searching eBay for "tape recorder", with "used" set to "yes". I prefer this style, it's very reliable:
The connector is just called an "audio cable" and looks like the picture below. Note that it looks like a "headphone wire" on both ends. You'll need two of these wires, as distinct connections between the tape recorder and your computer. Think of them as two different one-way streets.
These two wires will each show up as separate "devices" when you plug them into your computer. Tell the computer that one is an input, and that the other is an output. It's alright if it's confusing and you don't know which is which, because it's easy and quick to just try each setting (in, out) when you want to use it.
My configuration is shown below, as it's displayed in...
the device menu (windows 10):
and in audacity (an old version):
Lossless recording is impossible any time you're converting between formats like this. Luckily, the 'data loss' is extremely minor.
Your tapes will sound pretty damn good after a little practice, so don't be discouraged if your first try sounds very bad. Just rewind the tape, mess with your settings (volume, etc) and record again!
So if I fiddled around with it enough, it would sound identical to whatever FLAC file I was streaming?
Basically, yes. It will sound identical to the human ear.
genuine self confidence literally only comes with not caring at all if you’re ugly... like if it’s based around finding yourself beautiful it’s planted on fragile ground
like it feels Good to look in the mirror and say Wow i feel pretty, it’s a nice moment and i’m not condemning it, but it’s a tenuous position. if you position yourself to feel good about being pretty, you’re still vulnerable to Ugly, and pretty is not a sustainable state. no matter how far you extend the concept of beauty, it’s still based in rules established by societal standards that realistically one cannot be perfectly held up to.

My favorite thing about disability culture is that you’re never supposed to feel abandoned. It feels like that a lot with non-disabled people. My first week of college, I was led to an orientation, and it was on the second floor. And I asked an advisor where the elevator was. He said he didn’t know, shrugged, and turned away. I looked at him, and I realized, this person does not care about me. And I looked at all the other students walking up the stairs, and I thought, these people do not care about me.
I’m watching Crip Camp right now, and I’m crying, because those disabled people occupied the 4th floor to get rights for me, and they worked together to figure out how to get necessities to each other. They took care of each other. Disabled people don’t have the flaw of pretending we’re independent. No one is independent, disabled or nondisabled. Freedom isn’t created by independence, it’s created by interdependence.
I just want to repeat this because it is so poignant.
Freedom isn’t created by independence, it is created by interdependence.
Freedom exists in our social relations and how we structure it decides how free we are. Disability is socially constructed because the world is designed only for people who look, act and think in a specific way. For everyone else, the struggle is to assimilate as individuals.
