I recently learned an old French euphemism for bisexuality. It means to be powered "by sail and steam," and it absolutely comes from a specific flavor of 19th-century ship.
HMS Terror and Erebus were bisexual, you heard it here first.

In honour of Anthony Head, I'm uploading my favourite Merlin blooper.
One of the things I love about The Mentalist is that Jane never becomes a hero. When someone draws a gun he is visibly scared. He gets behind cops in dangerous situations the first chance he gets. He doesn't decide to put on a cape and run into a gunfight or wrestle with knives. There are times he has to step up and do it but it's not something he normally does. And it's not weakness, knowing Jane as we do, it's all down to logic. He's an untrained civilian and he knows that it's better to let the pros do what they're trained to do. Zero toxic masculity on that front
Stop delaying joy until life looks a certain way. You're allowed to be happy while you're figuring things out.
Happy Pride Month!!! ๐๐๐ผโจ
Movie costumes not only go on to be used in other films, but during the old studio system, when each studio had its own costume department, costumes were frequently used again for promotional photos. ย This black beaded gown, designed by Travilla, was first worn by Jane Russell as Dorothy Shaw in the 1953 film ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ and later worn by Sheree North in a publicity photo for the studio. ย See more at: Bit.ly/PostEd148 ย ย
This marvelous gown was first seen on Greer Garson in the 1941 film ๐พ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐, where she played the character Clare Woodruf. ย The costume was reused again several years later in the 1946 film ๐ป๐๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐, where Angela Lansbury wore it as Dusty Millard. ย Who designed this awesome costume? For everyone who โused to love readingโ but now hasnโt finished a book in years, you CAN get it back. Genuinely start bringing a book (preferably short and either fiction or a non fiction topic you already really enjoy) everywhere you go and when you have 5-20 mins waiting for the bus or at the doctors office or mechanic or whatever, get out your book and read it! You donโt have to finish it quickly or even read it often but it is so good for your brain and fun to get into the habit of reading more (and replacing being on your phone for those moments). Source: I read 0 books in 2023 and Iโve read 12 in the first 4 months of 2026
Steddie where they meet somewhere around their mid/late 20s and Eddie is convinced he's started dating a single father.
Steve is always talking about the kids. About driving them to school and taking them to doctor appointments or trips. It's sweet, actually, how devoted he obviously is to his kids.
There's Dustin, who Steve is always driving everywhere and bragging about how smart he is. And there's also Max and Erica, his girls who have Steve around their fingers.
And, well, maybe Steve is young to have three kids already, but who's Eddie to judge?
But then Steve is mentioning a Lucas too when he talks about his kids, and a Jane, and okay now Eddie is kinda freaking out. He's been trying to give Steve space and time, to let Steve set the pace and decide when he wants to have the 'do you wanna meet my kids?' conversation, but Eddie can't help but blurt out, "Babe, how many kids do you have?"
Steve looks at him funny, as if Eddie is not making any sense. "What do you mean?"
"You've already mentioned at least five different kids. Is there any more?"
"Oh, they are seven in total."
Seven. Seven fucking kids. How the hell is that even possible? Steve is twenty-six!
"Jesus, how old were you when the first of them was born?"
Understanding glints in Steve's eyes and he laughs so hard that Eddie is a little offended. Who wouldn't be a little frantic after finding out their new boyfriend had seven kids?
"Do you wanna meet them?" Steve asks suddenly, unable to hold back a grin.
An hour later, Eddie finds himself meeting not a bunch of kids but a bunch of grown adults, well in their 20s too, who are very nice and cool but also extremely protective of Steve.
He gets seven shovel talks that day.

Prison Survival Kit (front row, left to right): 1. A mirror. Cannot be seen in Newgate looking less than my best... especially if a certain lady detective turns up! 2. Whiskey. Asked for Macallan, got the knockoff, Loch McKellan. Not as potent as the homemade stuff, but it does the trick. 3. Tobacco and rolling papers. I don't smoke, but it is a rather useful bartering tool. 4. A soft bristle brush. Might work on getting the old curl back if Fulton can procure some pomade!
Prison Survival Kit (back row): 5. Standard deck of playing cards. For whenever Eliza arrives in need of cheering up, or failing that, there's always the rather odd fellow on D Block. Need to work on my ace-up-the-sleeve trick, though!

"Heavy is the ring that carries the poison"
I imagine Eliza and Patrick at Solomon's shop yet again. They're working on a case, trying to figure out a way to apprehend a criminal during a big fancy event. For once, they decide that the best way to go would be a tincture of laudanum, a private carriage, two armed detectives and a big sack. "I suppose the sack is excessive, since we're not taking him across the English Channel", - Patrick's remark about their working methods complementing each other/ his methods not being as appalling to her as they used to be makes Eliza roll her eyes.
There's only one thing left. They cannot come up with a way to carry the poison to the event. Solomon helps them out, suggesting poison rings. He, in fact, has a whole collection of those for a very reasonable price. The rings themselves are attention-grabbing but in a way that doesn't automatically suggests a poison compartment. Patrick and Eliza argue again over who's going to wear it. She doesn't like the ring and he doesn't like the pressure of being the one to add the poison into the man's drink. Solomon interrupts them, saying that none of the rings will fit a lady since the sizes are designed for men.
Or a story about Eliza and Patrick switching places and now she has to threaten a criminal with a gun, as Patrick tries to find a way to slip the poison in a drink without getting caught.
