it’s not weird to find fanfiction from 2021, or 2017, or 2014 that you’ve never read and actually taking your time to read it.
it’s not weird to love it and comment and leave kudos because the author will probably still see it someday and it will make them happy.
it’s not weird to like said author’s work so much that you want to go look for other fics from them.
it’s not weird to go through the authors profile and look for other fics from the ships you like (or maybe some that you’ll give a chance because you liked the author) and maybe bookmark them for later.
it’s not weird to read these other fics and like them too and comment on them because you actually like them and you want to let the author know.
it’s not weird to read fanfiction from 5, or 8, or 10 years ago and actually enjoy and engage with it because it’s perfectly normal to relate to something that’s less than a decade old!
let’s stop treating fanfiction like they’re instagram posts that stop being interesting in 24 hours! fanfiction is NOT social media, fanfiction is art!!! and art doesn’t get old in one day, one year, or even a decade!

Not only is it not weird, it is ACTIVELY ENCOURAGED. Authors LOVE IT when people do this!!! Its not "weird" and its not "neutral" -- its a fucking DELIGHT. Feel very absolutely free to read though an author's entire back catalogue, leaving kudos and/or comments along the way; we absolutely freaking love when someone does this. There is nothing more joyful than getting a comment notification for an old fic. It will make our day, I promise.
Honestly I think a lot of fantasy authors could take a lesson from sci-fi and just, have their fantasy worlds explicitly *not* show The Entire World as it exists in-universe. If that makes sense. Like in space exploration stuff it's common to namedrop a bunch of shit we're not unpacking right now to signal the expansiveness of the universe without having to do extensive worldbuilding for like 100s of cultures you're only gonna see once. It's honestly weird that high fantasy rarely ever does this! This is the easiest ticket out of (gestures broadly) the whole "one (1) country for Africa and Asia each" thing. Maybe it's not relevant to the plot maybe your map is only covering a specific corner of the world where the story is happening. It can still exist in the background. You can just do that

Yeah that'll do it. Much love to lotr but we don't all have to make Middle Earth 2. Like you Can't feasibly Unpack All Of That at a certain scale but you literally don't have to ... and in making Middle Earth 2 you are also going to inherit Tolkien's Racism
just thinking a lot lately about that tiktok series of a guy asking strangers 'do you think this person is gay or straight' and its this whole chain of people being like oh im obviously straight everyone can tell and then getting called gay when their picture is shown to other strangers. overall pretty funny series exposing how fake and fragile it all is. but very notably the videos with all men are just calling each other gay but the ones with all women are completely unpromptedly calling the strangers in the photo trans.
the question of "do you think they're gay or straight" is being interpreted not as "can you guess this person's sexuality from their appearance" but "what kind of deviant do you think this person is" and trans men just do not occupy the societal headspace as a potential deviant to watch out for the way trans women do. fail to live up to the standard of cishet man and you're still a man you're just gay. fail to live up to the standard of cishet woman and you're not even a woman

yes, i think ppl living in the imperial core should stop engaging with the world like it is a tv show. all i am personally telling you is to reflect and interrogate why your first impulse is to try and get a hit post with this format the moment that you hear about another development in something with as much gravity as this. it demonstrates such a ghoulish level of irreverence and dehumanization towards the populations that are the victims of the very hegemony that you reap the benefits of. i am sorry but i do not care about your “coping” justification here, it holds no water when you are not the one who is actually impacted. all you are doing is trivializing these things
My local animal shelter (BARCS) just got an influx of 369 birds from a shitass pet store, which is a truly terrifying number of parrots to have inside a building. BUT: there's a donation drive going on right now where you can vote for a pet's face to go on a beer can for their annual BARCStoberfest. Every single vote is a dollar towards animal rescue!!!
