So I’m a terrible person and wrote a drabble for my Penn One AU - where Penn first finds out his parents are dead. Putting it under a read more so it doesn’t clog the dash :D
Phil was unusually quiet when Penn, Rippen, and Larry returned from their latest mission. Sure, it hadn’t gone according to plan, but that didn’t seem like a huge deal since their missions rarely ever went well. (Although now that Penn had joined the team, the villains actually did win every once in a while.)
Rippen and Larry hadn’t seemed to notice (or maybe they just didn’t care), so Penn shrugged it off, deciding at least Larry would let him know if Phil’s silence was worth worrying about. It wasn’t until Rippen and Larry walked out and Phil finally spoke that Penn was filled with dread.
“Penn One.” The teen flinched when his name was called. He still hadn’t gotten used to being called that, even though it had been weeks since Phyllis fired him for destroying the Least Dangerous World Imaginable. Turning to face his new boss, Penn forced an awkward smile.
“Yes?”
“I talked to Phyllis earlier. Your parents are dead.” That was it, straight to the point with almost no sign of sympathy in his tone or eyes. Granted, Phil was a villain, so that was to be expected. The words that left his lips, however, were not.
“...They’re not. They can’t be!” Penn exclaimed after the shock of hearing those words - the very thing he had nightmares about - worse off. His eyes were wide with fear and there was desperation in his tone. His parents weren’t dead, this was all a joke. It had to be!
But Phil wouldn’t joke about this, and when the old man just closed his eyes and shook his head Penn knew it was true. He failed, his parents were gone.
The boy ran outside as fast as he could, pulling his MUHU out and turning it on. He knew it was useless, his parents wouldn’t answer because they were gone, but he had to try anyway.
Tears fell on the device when it didn’t work. This was supposed to be the part where Penn’s mom said something to cheer him up, but she couldn’t now. She never would again. Neither would his dad, and with that realization Penn broke down crying. If only he hadn’t destroyed that stupid planet, if only he was still a Part-Time Hero maybe he could have saved them...
But it was too late now. They were gone and Phyllis had fired him - and even if he wanted his old job back there was no way she’d give it to him after he sided with Rippen for so long. He was a Part-Time villain, and now that he knew he’d never see his parents again nothing would change that. What was the point in trying to be a hero when the one thing you wanted to protect most was gone?
*Hugs Penn and his friends while giving a kiss on each of their cheeks* You guys are the best and i love you all. Though it'll be a shame, i'll do my best to wait for your guys return in 2016. And i guarantee you will be showered with love from your fans once more when the time comes. -Daivd
Penn just blinks, but grins after a second and quickly reaches an arm out to stop Sashi from tackling the stranger. (Nobody kisses her on the cheek and gets away with it!)
“Hey, thanks! We’ll do our best in 2016 too, until then we hope you can wait!” Boone nods in agreement and Sashi just huffs, crossing her arms and settling for glaring at the stranger.
“Yeah. Keep supporting us.” The sidekick grumbles in annoyance, causing Penn to roll his eyes.
“Sashi’s glad for the support too, she just doesn’t wanna show it.”
"Wherever good is threatened, heroes rise to the challenge and always save the day!"

“It’s okay, I already have my aunt and uncle taking care of me.” Penn responded, but he was smiling a little as he pulled away from the hug. “It’s hard sometimes, but I’ll get over it. I know I’m not alone.”
He arched an eyebrow at that last part. “Hey, my anger and impulse control issues aren’t that bad!”
