“Ah! No pity! Honest!” Oh man, he’d almost forgotten how prickly Silver could be with the word ‘sorry’. Gold really should have known better, but the redhead had been making so much progress that he’d thought it would be okay to say such a thing.
It wasn’t like he was pitying him… Well, maybe he was. Every time Gold thought of how Silver and Giovanni were related, it explained a lot and it only made him want to see Silver smile and enjoy himself more.
“… About that though… After I beat him in a match, he jumped off the cliff we were battling on. I heard a splash. Then silence.” The implications were strong enough that he felt he didn’t need to say more. He doubt Silver would care about it anyway, seeing as he loathed the man who had made his life hell. Still, the boy had a right to know, right?
“We can drop it and never bring this up again if you want.”
Well. Silver wasn’t expecting that. His eyes widened in response to Gold’s confession on what his father did -- a father who abandoned him, pushed him away, promised him a great team but did not follow through with it -- and he took the coward’s way out? Left everyone else behind, too?
Silver clenched his fists as anger wanted to boil up within him. How dare he? He didn’t even go looking for son; he just went ahead and jumped? He didn’t stay around to see his successes so Silver could rub it in his nose? Was he afraid of Silver being better than him in any way? Was that it, or was he just too afraid to face the fact that maybe he was irrelevant now?
“... Well, good riddance, then.”
Silver didn’t need him. He didn’t need anybody, except perhaps Gold, and the only reason for him was because he pushed him to be a better trainer.
“... I don’t care. We can talk about it if you want. Although I’ve said all I can say on it.” Really, what else was there to add, other than the fact that his father was a complete deadbeat?
Or that he never gave Silver the companionship he craved, so Silver learned to never seek companionship at all?
