Monster Review : The Still Lifes from Backrooms (2026)

these where not at all what I expected to the entity in the movie but I really like the route Kane took , The Still Lifes are basically the product of the Backrooms slowly misremembering people overtime , almost as if it has gaps in its memory that it tries to fill , The Still Lifes are mishapen and abstract Humanoid that don't really seem to do much , apparentely they can't think or feel much.

The "Captain Clark" Still Life is another story , although he's still not able to think , he seems more active than the others and unlike them , he bleeds , his towering and gangly stature is nothing short of horrifying and his monsterous whails and howls don't make him any less scary.

I also like the concept of the Backrooms itself in this movie , it acts as a functioning mind of its own but its memory is failing , honestly I think this movie is a representation of Alzheimer's , as Clark puts it "The more it tries to remember , the less it does"

Lesser Known ARG Villains : Member # 2 aka "The Antagonist" from The Remnants of PL4YGRND.

for starters The Remnants of PL4YGRND's plot is that the Youtube Uploader was once in a private internet group called PL4YGRND that was operational between the years 1999-2003 , the group was primarily made of 5 people , and most of them had a camcorder and would film videos , the purpose of the channel is to archive what little is left of the groups work.

The Antagonist is described in a forum post by one of the members , he is described as a wolf in sheeps clothing , a depraved individual who's words aren't to be trusted , they also describe that member # 2 may have been some kind of shock jock saying that they're responsable for the darker videos and says "The Pig's Videos Where The Worst" , not only that but it is implied Member # 2 was possibly stalking and blackmailing the other members of the group , as it's put by the poster "There's A Reason He's Called "The Antagonist". Member # 2 also has a seprate channel called FormerAdolescent , most of the videos are fairly normal enough but they're are multiple videos that slander the PL4YGRND channel as well as the group , seeming way too worked up about the channel being an "invasion of privacy". the 3 videos that show Member # 2 he's wearing a pig mask and in the first video seems to speak sweetly and a little awkwardly , but as we've been warned his friendly demeanor is nothing but a facade , in the other 2 videos the seem more sinister , he shows himself walking up to an active playground and taping himself to it , although the visual seems odd , I think this represents how he'll do whatever it takes to keep the secrets of PL4YGRND safe , the last and most recent video shows a much more low quality recording of him coloring around the eyes , mouth and forehead of the pig mask with a black marker , we also see his fingernails have grown longer , the purpose of this video isn't specified but it does have a cryptic feel to it.

One Of My Favorite Interpretations of Cthulhu

It comes from an obscure movie called Invoking 5 , I like how Cthulhu doesn't necessarily do anything yet his presence makes everything ominous as if he's just this malicious force looming over everything , his design is pretty simplistic yet affective , he resembles a black hole with a bunch of dark writhing tentacles coming out of it , the animation they use for Cthulhu is dated I personally think it adds to the creep factor , when he arrives he emerges from the clouds and quickly beings floating forward as the enviornment turns dreary and dark , the strange design , atmosphere and even the dated animation gives him this vibe of not belonging in this reality which I think is the perfect way to describe an incomprehensible horror. as much as I like the more recognized Cthulhu design I still enjoy this more unique and abstract version.

Evil Scientist #1 : Dr. Annie Lure (Marine Biologist)

Personalitty : she's very shy , geeky ,volitile and kinda pervy , she has a fasination with the ocean (which is how she ended up like this) , she gets shy easily , it's said she's very unkempt and stinky , when showing her evil inventions she is very competitive and dramatic , she really enjoys playing the role she does.

Height : due to her horrible scoliosis she appears shorter than she actually is , in her normal appearance she stands at 5,4 inches tall.

Inventions : due to genetic experiments being illegal in Doomsville most evil scientists are reduced to only creating machines , Dr. Lure does both , she secretly creates her own new sea monsters and creatures but often showcases her mechanical inventions to the public most of which being based off sea creatures (duh) , her most popular invention being an octopus robot with a sailor hat , anchors for tentacles and a harpoon nose used to brutalize its oponents
