And Addiction Treatment Ever since Richard Nixon's "war on drugs" started over 40 years ago and Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign began in the 1980's, addic(...)
The focus of our efforts to curb the drug abuse epidemic in the United States needs to shift from the supply side to the demand side if we hope to have positive results. A better understanding of why people choose to abuse drugs and alcohol will be the only way to improve addiction treatment efforts, dissolve the myths and stereotypes surrounding the issue, and begin the eliminate the destruction that is caused by drug abuse and alcoholism.
Opiate Detox With Suboxone It has been reported that fear of opiate withdrawal symptoms has resulted in unnecessary accidental overdoses. The symptoms of opiate withdrawal can be very uncomfortable preventing opiate addicts from seeking treatment.
By using Suboxone as a detox medication the likelihood of addicts seeking treatment should be increased. In the long run this should result in a reduction in the number of accidental deaths caused by opiate overdoses.
What To Expect In Drug And Alcohol Detox Drug and alcohol detox is the initial step in someone seeking treatment for dependence on a substance, and it is critic(...)
Don't think that just getting clean and sober in a drug and alcohol detox program is the end of your addiction treatment. Most people will require further work once their detox is complete. This could include further inpatient addiction treatment, outpatient addiction counseling, or referral to a 12 step program.
When seeking a drug and alcohol detox program be sure they offer aftercare planning. If you stop the work you have started after leaving the drug and alcohol detox program, your chances of maintaining your sobriety will be less than optimal.
When you're early in AA or NA, you'll get plenty of advice from people that have been there longer and even from people who haven't been there much longer than you. Some of this advice will be good and some of it not so good.
Unless the advice seems illegal, unethical, or dangerous to your safety you should give it a shot. If after a while you aren't getting anything in return for your efforts and your inner voice is telling you that whatever you're doing isn't working then it's time to change.
Granted people's judgement can be clouded when they are early in sobriety, and some people have just been slackers for a long time during their addiction. So saying no to advice is probably not for the right reasons. AA is a program of action, and it's most important when you're new to take action. So listen to what people have to say, take what works and leave the rest.
And if you think a particular meeting or activity is no longer working for you then move on. Recovery is progress, not perfection and one result of the progress will be that your viewpoints will change. While you may need to go to 3 meetings a day in your first few months of sobriety or pray 7 times a day, eventually as you get some time under your belt these activities will seem less necessary and you'll be able to trust your own judgement more.
Addiction Treatment Options Addiction is a complex illness characterized by uncontrollable cravings, drug seeking behavior, and continued drug use by the addict(...)
When this alcoholic is feeling like he can walk on water, he finds himself isolated. When he's feeling lower than the mud at the bottom of the pond he's also feeling isolated. Either behavior is self-centered and will more than likely lead to relapse.
Being rightsized and not doing God's job for him and also not believing that God could never love me brings peace. With faith comes perspective, and with perspective comes humility and with humility comes connectedness to the universe, but not from its center.
It's important for this alcoholic to remain in the middle of the herd. When I think "I got this" on my own, I am in trouble.
Restoring proper nutritional balance during alcohol detox is important to improve the alcoholic's chance for long term sobriety and recovery. Alcohol abuse has been shown to lead to poor nutrition as a result of both a bad diet and the effects that alcohol has on the body's ability to absorb vital nutrients.
Without proper nutrition during the alcohol detox process, the alcoholic will continue to feel poorly after alcohol detox because their body is lacking in vital nutrients like Thiamine, vitamin C, and Folic Acid. Without restoring balance, the craving cycle is more likely to come back and the alcoholic is more likely to return back to the old solution they have proven works to make them feel better-more alcohol.
Having faith when we're struggling with life is really where the rubber meets the road. It's easy to make statements like "If God gets us through it, He'll get us through it" when things are going well. It's not so easy when you're broke, feeling alone, and not able to see a way out of your despair.
By continuing to show up and participate, however, we have the change to hear someone share about their struggles which might make ours seem insignificant. Or we might hear someone talk about how bad things once were but how they stuck to it and they were around for the good times.
Oftentimes just getting through the day will give us the chance to get to the promised land.
The rates of prescription drug abuse in southern and eastern states has gone down recently, while the rates of prescription drug abuse has spiked in western states like Washington, Colorado, and Oregon. According to reports, government officials in these states were unprepared for the spike in prescription drug abuse.
At Pathways Detox and Recovery we offer a variety of options for your detox treatment. We will consider your drug of choice, usage history, and physical well being before we decide on a course of detox treatment.
We don't offer a cookie-cutter approach to detox treatment which means we don't have one set of prices.
During opiate detox, Suboxone is administered in 3 phases to lessen the debilitating withdrawal from opiates. They are the induction phase, the stabilization phase, and the titration phase of the opiate detox. Prior to the induction phase of the detox treatment, it is critical that the addict’s withdrawal symptoms are monitored regularly. If Suboxone is administered prior to the onset of withdrawals during the opiate detox, then the addict can go into what is called precipitated withdrawals which can make their opiate detox worse than if they were kicking their drug of choice cold turkey.
By listening to other addicts and alcoholics share their story, we are able to stay in the solution because it reminds us of how bad it got when we were active in our addiction and how we found a way out. Hearing a share that we can identify with is like recharging our recovery batteries and our desire to remain clean and sober.
Whatever type of substance abuse treatment program is decided upon, the first step in getting clean and sober might be detox treatment. Many people requiring an addiction treatment program have become physically dependent on drugs or alcohol. So just quitting cold turkey in a substance abuse treatment program might result in dire consequences like seizures or even strokes.
