I don’t cast moral aspersions on people who have had cosmetic surgery for any reason but I also think any attempt to defend cosmetic surgery via a pseudo feminist “it’s empowering to meet patriarchal beauty standards” narrative is doomed. I am pro-bodily-autonomy. But mistaking beauty for power is one of the oldest patriarchal traps you can fall into.
How is it that you can a music library of like 1,200+ absolute bangers but as soon as you put it on shuffle in a group setting it's like. anime opening you added in 2010. homestuck parody song. musical artist who was cancelled last year for kidnapping and eating children in his basement. Hamilton
I can't believe some people are actually reblogging this like "Tch. Omg, so embarrassing OP, I can't believe you would ever admit to liking Hamilton 😏 " like ok, first of all congratulations for hatching as a fully formed adult in 2022 from the pure white egg of a virgin swan i guess. Raised in a cave on a diet consisting solely of nuts and berries and leftist twitter clapbacks. "ooooooh, I've never had a complicated relationship with a piece of art that was phenomenally well-received at the time but aged like milk as later reflection revealed the fundamental flaws in its premise that were in fact present from its inception but which I didn't notice because I was 17 and hadn't heard of neoliberalism yet" Should we throw a party? Should we invite Anthony Fantano? Anyway second of all. you draw the line at Lin Manuel Miranda but you're fine with basement guy?

It's okay to like imperfect stuff
I still love Avenue Q because I was a teenager when it came out and I know the context for a lot of jokes that have aged worse than milk. Once upon a time Christmas Eve wasn't the butt of a racist Japanese joke, the joke was about weebs and she was making fun of them (perhaps best seen in the line "tried to work in Korean deli, but I am Japanese"). In 2003, a gay Republican would have been seen as silly and a bit deluded but not dangerously ignorant because it was a very different party back then. "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist" is...okay it was always a little sus, but I think if you can take off your Earbuds of Self-Righteousness for just thirty seconds and listen to the words being said, you'll realize it can be taken as a serious warning about unexamined biases. (It likely wasn't intended that way. That doesn't mean it doesn't work.)
So: Hamilton? Hamilton came out at a time when the US was having a reckoning with race and immigration history. If you look at it in the context in which it was created, it makes a lot of sense. Yes, it's clumsy and flawed. Most early attempts at any kind of social grappling are. But it was trying to ask us to look at something we very much took for granted (of course everyone in the story of the Revolution was white...even though that's not actually true, and in fact the first death of the Revolution was a Black man killed by British soldiers at the Boston Massacre), and to really think about it, and to imagine a world that was different.
And to add to that, even it being flawed doesn't mean it did no good. It did make a lot of people think! It forced a lot of people who gravitate to musicals because of a very Eurocentric musical style to stop and think about traditionally Black genres like rap and R&B as not just music, but art, and to think about the implicit and explicit biases in musical casting and production! Up until that point, the vast majority of Black-specific roles were "addict," "slave," "cautionary tale," or "joke." Suddenly we had a whole slew of them available that were "dignified, honorable, petty, messy, passionate, complicated people, sources of inspiration and foundation." I love musicals, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend Broadway doesn't have a racism problem, or that it wasn't even worse before Hamilton. I can name exactly two pre-2016 musicals that feature Black-specific roles that aren't the above-named archetypes: RENT (which has one: Joanne, with Benny being a cautionary tale about forgetting your roots) and Hairspray. And while Hairspray is great, it's also "slaves 2.0: Civil Rights Movement Edition," and a white girl saves the day. As I have bemoaned before: "are Black people allowed to tell one single story about themselves that isn't about their oppression?"
was outside earlier and a bird Came Up, squatted down, fluttered it’s wings at me and opened its mouth like a hatchling begging for food (it was a grown female) so I went and checked the seed cube in the feeder and the thing was completely covered in mold. this is one of the weirdest things that’s ever happened to me. how did she know im the one in charge of the birdseed. How Did She Know To Pantomime Hunger At Me. Hello.
i have spent my afternoon confusedly getting dressed, driving to the store, purchasing a new seed block, driving home, washing the cage, and getting the feeder set back up. i don’t take this much care for my Own nutrition. ive been bullied into a grocery store run by a tufted titmouse. i feel so loved
Invasive species versus a second, stronger invasive species
Australia did this at one point, intentionally releasing cats into the bush in an attempt to control the invasive rabbit population. Now we have invasive feral cats as well as invasive rabbits👌
A third, even stronger invasive species will surely do the trick
The invasive foxes aren't doing the trick
Meanwhile, via Bluesky...
And here is the resulting image. There is at least Someone in the U.K. government who is actually doing their job, and it is Chief Mouser to the Cabinet, Larry the Cat.

PHM Time Travel/Body Swap episode
I’ve been giggling over this concept for a hot minute- >
The idea is simple-
This song has single-handedly taken over my life and it’s only been like a week
me the first time i saw this: oh sure that's fun ig
me seeing it again now: fuuuuuuuuck yes the axolotl is back
Some time ago (I think in 2021) I had to go see a neurologist over really scary symptoms that resembled seizures. I was a nervous wreck about what I was feeling and had barely slept all week, which seemed to be apparent to the doc’s assistant when I sat down in the exam room for questioning or whatever. Dude was pretty young and soft spoken, around my age. He was laser focused doing something on one of those tablet-laptop Surface things as I spoke, presumably writing down my symptoms.
Midway through talking about my symptoms my voice audibly started shaking as I was describing them, clearly upset.
In the middle of my monologue he turns the tablet to face me, closes whatever program he has open and the wallpaper is this fucking collage of pictures of lord farquaad from shrek, lovingly decorated. Dude just sat there placidly smiling at me until I noticed and stopped dead in the middle of a sentence. We sat there in silence like this for like a solid minute before I started wheezing laughing. Before I could even say anything else or process it he picked up the tablet and wordlessly left the room, and I just sat there dumbfounded until the doctor showed up. 10/10 doctor experience tbh
I didn’t own a cell phone at the time to get a photo so this rendition from memory is all I can provide you
ID: a digital drawing of a man in scrubs sitting on a wheeled stool, serenely smiling with his elbow on a rolling cart, where a tablet is flipped open to show an approximation of the Lord Farquaad screensaver. end ID
Reblogging this bc it’s making rounds again
You can make a movie with where the only white character is a man named Ray Cism whose one line of his 16 seconds of screen time is “I seriously hate women and minorities.” and you’ll find fifty bajillion reader x Ray Cism fanfics and renaissance style drawings of him with a halo of golden light

It's called the Global Justice Report, it is here. This is an actionable plan which can be sent to legislators and demanded of political parties. We could save the world within our lifetimes.
It has always been possible. It is still possible.
This Dan Piraro comic always makes me cry.

Learning that the problem with my ear was that stomach acid was getting in there. Weird. I forgot that the mouth and ears are connected tbh.
Wait what?
I forget what it’s called but there’s tubes that connect your ear canals to your nose and mouth and I was getting burning feelings in my ear and jaw pain on my left side that I didn’t understand but apparently it’s because stomach acid was getting in there while I slept on my side.
I’ve had problems with these tubes for my whole life just due to like idk the way my body is formed. They can’t really be fixed. My whole body is moderately lopsided. The ones on the right side are too narrow which leads to that ear getting plugged a lot and the ones on the left are too wide which leads to stuff from my mouth and nose getting in there and causing ear infections.
Despite having these issues I still manage to forget that I have them lol. My right ear being plugged sometimes is just a part of my life I don’t think about much anymore.
I’ve never had stomach acid get in there before though which is why this issue was so confusing.
I had a phone appointment with my doctor about it and I’m gonna start taking an h2 inhibitor and eating more fiber before bed to control my stomach acid a bit better. We don’t want acid slowly damaging my inner ears after all.
Anyways add to the weird list of things that can happen apparently
