NEVER LET YOURSELF BE STOPPED BY WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE IF YOU STARTED EARLIER!!!!! THE ONLY TIME WE HAVE IS NOW
I sat behind the same girl in class all year and I was painfully jealous of her beautiful curly hair and I assumed she had just figured out some hair routine I didn't know, or had more time in the mornings than me, or was somehow more disciplined or just lucky. And then my friend talked to her one day and found out she gets 500$ perms and highlights 3 times a year. The answer was literally just money. The same friend found out that most of our classmates who I thought were just naturally smarter than me went to private highschools that cost 25k a year.
This is all a metaphor to say that there will be times when you feel like other people understand something that you don't, or have some ability that you don't, or are better than you in some way because they've accomplished something you can't. And it's going to turn out that they're just rich and they spent thousands of dollars to make that happen. You are not bad, you are not broken, the system is just fucked.
A dutiful daughter disguises herself as a knight and takes up the sword to protect her father's noble reputation and her kings realm. Whether we think of the Chinese or French iterations of maiden warrior tales, the figure-is fraught with tensions. On the one hand the maiden warrior demonstrates the capacities of women to live and fight honorably. Maiden warrior tales grant the heroine ample agency, demonstrating her physical and intellectual strengths; as such, they hint at the arbitrary nature of gender norms in the societies that give rise to such tales. On the other hand the maiden warrior is only allowed to transgress the norms assigned to women for the sake of maintaining patriarchal and monarchical power. In other words, she defends a patriarchal social and political order that upholds, paradoxically, gender norms that limit women's agency. When the heroine restores order by the end of the tale, she abandons her masculine attire to resume her position as a woman, either beside a prince or king through marriage or within the domestic space, taking up the spindle. In both cases she forever relinquishes her sword.

This year I had the delight of helping Unwritten Earths Symposium bring this tabletop role-playing game to book format via contributing the cover and a set of glyphs/icons that illustrate game concepts and mechanics.
i feel so defensive and protective of people with ARFID like if i had a disorder that made my brain register 90% of food as poison for no reason and i had a bazillion people on the internet constantly calling me a manchild who needs to just grow up and stop being a picky eater i would start killing people
people with ARFID and people with very few autism safe foods and people with contamination OCD and people in ED recovery and everyone else with a complicated relationship with food that no one takes seriously GET BEHIND ME!!!!!!!

as much as i poke fun at âtumblr prose,â i will acknowledge that sometimes when youâre writing and youâre really in the groove, youâre really feeling yourself, youâre on your capital-a Author shit, and you write a line that makes you go, âoh yeah, this is the Good Shit. this is so Subtle and Says So Much. this is Characterization. this is Themes and Motifs. you could write a whole essay about this one line. the master of the craft strikes again!â and then a month or whatever later when youâre editing you read over it again with post-write clarity and you realize you wrote some real âpeople die when theyâre killedâ bullshit
