Sand pipers running very quickly together as it is their typical behavior. They stick together because they are small but together they are a swarm and swarms can be speedy; it is their greatest trait apart from their uncanny ability to find treats in the sands
after a couple hours chopping dried sea urchins into tiny pieces with a razor blade you start referring to the razor blade as yourself in your thoughts. a little while afterwards you'll inevitably think something along the lines of "i'm getting a bit dull, i'm going to have to throw myself out & get myself a new self" at which point your internal monologue has pretty much returned to baseline
This happens with mobility aids too. I bump into shit with my forearm crutches and say "ow" before I realize those are not, in fact, More Legs. Then when I get up and try to walk without them for a second there's a moment of feeling like a dog walking upright
Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.
They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.
Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.
You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.
This article specifically notes:
For journalism, activism, or domestic abuse situations, skip Windows and use Linux routed through Tor instead of a commercial VPN. A GDID doesn’t care which VPN you use, only that it’s still the same Windows installation.
GDID is the persistent Windows ID that helped FBI trace a Scattered Spider hacker despite VPNs. Here's how it works and how to limit it.
Other important quotes:
What has researchers uneasy is everything else the case reveals. Costin Raiu, a well-known malware researcher, asked on the Three Buddy Problem podcast how much of this exists on other platforms, and whether it is linked more permanently to hardware. Matthew Hickey, another security researcher, called Windows “surveillance software”.
Two things back that up:
There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.
Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.
Here's the complaint filed to the court, the primary source for the case mentioned in the article. You can find mentions of GDID on page 30 of the document or 34 of the PDF.
You can get and use windows 11 without logging in with a microsoft account, as of five days ago. I am a local user on my computer. Don't ask me how to do it, because my computer repair guy did it when he reinstalled windows, but there are tutorials out there. Refuse to connect to internet until you're set up and can use the computer freely.
me: QUIET! this is the deadliest ray known to man. one milli milli milligram of poison from its sting is enough to stop a grown man's heart in under a minute! and he answers only to me! behold your DOOM!
stingray: *nudges my hand*
me, getting down on my knees in front of the tank so i can look him in the eyes: Mortimer, please. i'm trying to be intimidating here.
"how dare people say that being raped to 'correct' their asexuality is corrective rape. only lesbians ever get raped to punish them for not being sexually available." what the hell are you talking about. are you fucking stupid.
They think that because corrective rape was initially coined to describe lesbophobic corrective rape in South Africa, asexuals aren't allowed to use it. One of many completely bullshit beliefs people only adopted to avoid having to admit that the people they were doing a lateral violence to didn't have a point. Its the same as what people are doing right now to trans men; people insisting that forced pregnancy isn't that big of an issue because they can't deny that trans men are affected by it.
Acephobia is written off by acephobes as non-existent or, at most, online bullying, unlike homophobia which involves REAL harm -> asexuals & allies point out examples of how acephobia can be undeniably harmful and targeted at asexuals, such as someone being raped in an attempt to correct their asexuality -> instead of acknowledging that acephobia does involve serious real-world harm, discoursers switch to "well ACTUALLY corrective rape only applies to lesbians, so asexuals are lesbophobic for insisting they can experience it!"
Anyways, the HRW also has said in this report:
Much of the recent media coverage of violence against lesbians and transgender men has been characterized by a focus on “corrective rape,” a phenomenon in which men rape people they presume or know to be lesbians in order to “convert” them to heterosexuality. While the focus on “corrective rape” draws attention to an important aspect of the problem, it also detracts from the larger set of issues fueling violence and discrimination against lesbians and transgender men. A narrow focus on “corrective rape” can give the mistaken impression that only “butch lesbians” are subject to sexual assault, or that rape is the only issue of concern, or that sexual assault faced by a lesbian is qualitatively different from and more serious than sexual assault against a person who is not identified as a lesbian. Local and international campaigns have condemned the practice and state responses have also focused on so-called “corrective rape.”
Most people insisting corrective rape is a lesbophobia-only term would, I imagine, also get mad if it was used as an example of transandrophobic violence, and yet it is very clear that any person taking this issue seriously would acknowledge trans men are targets of corrective rape for being trans men. No one who isn't motivated by reactionary queer conservatism would act like asexuals aren't subjected to corrective rape for being asexual. This is as logically "blood-boiling" as people fuming about immigrants causing the death of Western civilization. Because it is absolutely absurd to act like it matters that only lesbians are ever allowed to use this word because lesbophobia is the specialist worst oppression in the world and no other queer person can ever suffer like they suffer.
and on some level it's understandable why people would feel defensive over language like this when their communities are in danger and the issue is under-discussed by wider society. it's a wounded animal response. but that doesn't make it acceptable; we're all wounded animals. it takes nothing away from the struggles of lesbians to point out that another group faces similar struggles.
particularly during ace discourse people would frequently wiggle all over the place trying to requalify why aces might face sexual violence without it being bigotry against asexuals. someone would share their experience and, if the discourser didn't feel comfortable calling them a liar to their face (though sometimes they did) they would say well that's just misogyny! someone would say actually my rapist said directly that it was because I was asexual, and the discourser says well that sucks but it doesn't make it oppression, does it? lots of people get raped. if the person continues to push, or points out that they are not a woman or their rapist was a woman, they are called a lesbophobe and told to just shut the fuck up.
because they have decided already that a certain category of people do not get to have experiences. that no matter what you tell them, your experience is either a) fabricated or b) belongs to a more important category and simply splashes onto you unintentionally. it is epistemic violence that compounds the physical violence faced by "non groups" like aces aros and bisexuals, poly people, and trans men.
tbh a lot of my advice boils down to “hey you know that terrible horrible looming thing you’re doing your best to avoid and distract and escape as much as possible but no matter what you do it just keeps looming and looming and ruining your life”
My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.
socializing works a little bit like a car battery and alternator. if you continue to make yourself go out and do things, your social alternator makes it infinitely more manageable for you to continue to go out and do things. if you let yourself be completely idle for too long, the alternator doesn't get to keep charging your battery and eventually it runs completely down and it's nearly impossible to go out and do stuff with a dead social battery. you can always get it jumped again by a friend who's willing to do so, but as with a real car battery it's kind of a whole Thing and the first time out with a jumped battery is still really shaky and weird and anxiety-inducing and all of this could've been avoided if you'd just gone to the arcade or whatever
