the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
Emotional Walls Your Character Has Built (And What Might Finally Break Them)
(How your character defends their soft core and what could shatter it) Because protection becomes prison real fast.
✶ Sarcasm as armor. (Break it with someone who laughs gently, not mockingly.)
✶ Hyper-independence. (Break it with someone who shows up even when they’re told not to.)
✶ Stoicism. (Break it with a safe space to fall apart.)
✶ Flirting to avoid intimacy. (Break it with real vulnerability they didn’t see coming.)
✶ Ghosting everyone. (Break it with someone who won’t take silence as an answer.)
✶ Lying for convenience. (Break it with someone who sees through them but stays anyway.)
✶ Avoiding touch. (Break it with accidental, gentle contact that feels like home.)
✶ Oversharing meaningless things to hide real depth. (Break it with someone who asks the second question.)
✶ Overworking. (Break it with forced stillness and the terrifying sound of their own thoughts.)
✶ Pretending not to care. (Break it with a loss they can’t fake their way through.)
✶ Avoiding mirrors. (Break it with a quiet compliment that hits too hard.)
✶ Turning every conversation into a joke. (Break it with someone who doesn’t laugh.)
✶ Being everyone’s helper. (Break it when someone asks what they need, and waits for an answer.)
✶ Constantly saying “I’m fine.” (Break it when they finally scream that they’re not.)
✶ Running. Always running. (Break it with someone who doesn’t chase, but doesn’t leave, either.)
✶ Intellectualizing every feeling. (Break it with raw, messy emotion they can’t logic away.)
✶ Trying to be the strong one. (Break it when someone sees the weight they’re carrying, and offers to help.)
✶ Hiding behind success. (Break it when they succeed and still feel empty.)
✶ Avoiding conflict at all costs. (Break it when silence causes more pain than the truth.)
✶ Focusing on everyone else’s healing but their own. (Break it when they hit emotional burnout.)
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct
I feel like the problem ppl have when constructing redemption arcs is people make 'the character realizes what they've done is wrong' the end step instead of like...one of the earliest ones. a satisfying redemption arc doesn't resolve when the character first feels sorry, it resolves when a character has really journeyed towards atonement and made enough change in themselves to achieve some kind of symbolic victory over who they used to be
Shane loves sex with Ilya. He was, however, concerned about a few things. The most pressing worry was the fact that he knots pretty much every time they did anything. In a panic for answers after inviting Ilya to spend two weeks with him at his cottage, Shane takes to reddit for some advice.

It all started when TheQueenOfFish proposed this idea in the HR writers' discord server, the rest is history...
No, but fr... this fic was so much fun to write collectively! Writing Ilya's parts were so much fun against TheQueenOfFish' Shane interpretation!
Aside from Ilya, other characters from the Game Changers' series show up too! 👀 (Have fun finding them among the reddit users!)
And finally, the coding was a collective effort to bring an accurate Reddit experience! 😆 (I fought against so many div's). So I hope that it works just as fine for mobile users/readers!

I had a lot of fun working on this with everyone! It was super fun to collaborate on a fic :) Happy reading!

I had the idea for this fic when I sent a version of the original ‘Reddit post’ to my friend, (schoolofdove here on ao3) who responded to it with a Reddit comment. It was so much that I had to pitch it as an idea in the server! So thank you to schoolofdove for inspiring the idea of a collective Reddit au, and for always being so encouraging and wonderful ❤️ Some of their original response lives on in the medical student thread!
It was a blast writing this style of fic. Thank you to all my co-authors for being so wonderful and witty! And for being so adept with the various work skins this fic uses! I couldn’t have done it without them!!
Apologies that the world didn’t see it earlier. I held up the posting by being very busy LARPing, and then going off shore sailing with friends 😂
“I want to write a fic about this but I don’t think anybody will be interested in it” ummm hello excuse me ma’am what do you mean you don’t think anybody will be interested in it??? YOU. YOU ARE INTERESTED IN IT???? write it because YOU are interested in it and YOU want to write about it. fanfic writing should always be first and foremost about YOUR enjoyment, not other people’s.
Rules: make a new post with the names of all the files in your wip folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it!
Okay, let me check Ellipsus 😆 lately I've been adding more and more wip ideas. While my main blog is for art in general, you'll eventually find my fics/writing on my sideblog: @peachwavs
For the GC rarepair fest (so far):
Jackie and the SAPs (haven't found a title for this one)
Take a seat (in your fantasy) (a very shameless ateez ref)
RoseLana (ngl this is just me manifesting that I have time to write about these two)
Other WIPs:
El Clásico
hollanov Ω/Ω
Killing Eve AU
Publishing AU
My Liberation Notes AU
OF model Shane AU (with ChineseBakery)

I genuinely wonder if people realize how many projects get abandoned because the readership "wasn't there", when in reality, the readership just stayed silent. It's a big thing in trad pub that book series get discontinued because readers pirate the books or wait until the series is finished to buy a copy, leading the publisher to think that nobody actually wants the book enough to continue the series, but it happens with indie creators too.
I've discontinued a lot of free, online series because it's not worth putting 3-5 hours a week into posting a project for no readers. Sometimes I finish the series for me but just never post it again, other times I don't finish it at all because it feels more worthwhile to put my time into other things. Sometimes I hear from readers who are sad or upset that I didn't finish something they were liking, but the *reason* it never got finished is because I didn't know anyone liked it. If you like something, tell the creator, tell your friends, make some noise about it. If you would be sad if a story never finished, make that interest known because one of my biggest considerations before discontinuing a series is "will people miss this? Will I be letting people down" and 9/10 times, I come to the conclusion of "no, it doesn't even seem like anyone's reading this" only to learn after I've moved on that apparently someone was.
I've said this before in a different way, and this post said it so well. With real examples.
If you like something, tell people.
If you want more content from an artist or author, if you like their stuff, tell them. It will give them creative fuel to keep going. And often it gives them other resources as well.
Recommend a work to other people. Leave a comment or a review. It doesn't have to be long, just genuine, a sentence or two.
Not many people know that a book's success is judged by book reviews as well as sales. Review the book on Amazon or another site to help it pass the metric of success and be recognized by publishers and retailers.
As someone who adores the song of achilles and literally analyzed it in one of my lit classes in high school (everyone else who took ap lit iykyk): it's so incredibly important for people to understand that despite ilya being the spitting image of achilles, he ISN'T HIM.
Achilles is someone who, from birth, has been hailed as the greatest fighter in the world. He has parents who love him (ignoring the circumstances of their "marriage" and the marital rape that birthed achilles himself; they hate each other but love him; if anything, I'd be interested in seeing a comparison between yuna, an otherwise healthy parent who pushes her son too much without realizing, and thetis, a goddess with a hatred of all men except for her son, who both desires greatness from and devastatingly loves him in a way that isn't quite what he needs). More importantly, he has mountains of pressure on his shoulders to live up to the legend behind his name, leading to him making bad choices after becoming obsessed with his legacy.
Who does that sound like?
Patroclus, on the other hand, was born to a king clinging onto power, desiring more at any cost, and a child bride whose heavily implied mental illness passed onto patroclus himself. At the first mistake he's discarded by his father to be sent to a foreign land, where he becomes the best friend and confidante to another prince. They should hate one another, but end up being equals in a way they aren't with anyone else, and fall in love because there's no world in which they aren't soulmates. Patroclus would give everything for achilles, and achilles would give everything for patroclus, even as both of them are cursed by fate and the higher powers.
Who does that sound like?
And lets be honest, ilya impulsively dressing up in shane's armour to rally their troops, and shane razing the earth in grief after his death feels so much like them. Whoever the equivalent to priam is having to beg shane to let him bury his dead son's body, because shane's rage and grief is so all consuming he has no mercy or leniency left to give. Ilya's heart breaking from beyond the grave watching his love become a self fulfilling prophecy, losing his will to live without him. SHANE IS ACHILLES, ILYA IS PATROCLUS, YOU'RE ONLY BOOING ME BECAUSE I'M RIGHT‼️

[Translation] The Elevator - Der Aufzug by Lexi_Leckstar

Yuna fuhr erschrocken hoch.

El Clásico by peachwaves
