Hi everyone, welcome to the updated masterlist for the buddie supercuts. This also has every Buck and Chris scene even if Eddie is not around. The first link is for the individual post here, there you can read a bit more about what I chose to add to that particular season. You can click the video to watch it on drive without downloading anything with English subtitles, I'm also adding the timestamp for the beginning of the second half of the season. The folder link so you can download the video and subtitle. All videos are 1080p 30 fps, if you're an editor, they can be a nice resource.
Season 2: video // 2b timestamp // folder
Season 3: video // 3b timestamp // folder

I don't usually add this to my stuff but this is the product of months of work, literally, you don't have to, but if you see this and think "wow, wonder if Anna has a tip button" this is my kofi and you can buy me a coffee.
I'm not going to the cottage, y'all. I'm building the cottage.
How it started
How it's going.
So far I've been working on this for about a month, and it's maybe 70% of the way done, but I've reached a stage where there are lots of parts of it that look really fucking good IMO, so you're going to start seeing some of it.
it's been 2 months and still don't feel any closer to understanding wth happened with byler??? every speculation or theory we've had can make sense of parts of it, but none of them (to me) make sense of the whole thing.
let's go through the list...
💭 divorcegate:
it's true leigh was involved, there's bts of her on set. but i don't think it's possible for one person to be so involved that they built up byler in every aspect of the show and also built up so much other stuff for ALL of it to crumble in their absence.
especially for that to be the case and for us to not even have a clue they were involved until we started looking. there are cases of creative projects failing after divorce due to the wife's involvement but i find it hard to believe for something as big as st w/ 2 brothers working together and a whole team of writers (as opposed to something like author who is writing books by themself). i haven't seen any proof of her being in the writers room. with the complexity of evidence, you can't be coordinating that all from the sidelines.
another possibility could be leigh was a proponent of byler though not entirely driving it, and the change was some kind of revenge? that feels pretty outlandish though. and would they really nuke their own reputations just to get back? it also wouldn't explain non-byler issues.
💭 conformitygate:
this very well could have made sense of everything (if done well), but at this point it's been so long that i doubt anything will happen. it would be insane to wait this long and let your most devoted fans give up on the theory by the time it happens lol
💭 writer's strike:
often writers don't come back after strikes and it leads to shows dropping in quality. this can make sense for a lot of things that happened. BUT the duffers were still involved the whole time & byler would be such a main plot point that they wouldn't forget. a drop in quality, sure, but completely dropping a major story arc and pairing that was being built up since s1 and central to the plot? it doesn't make sense.
💭 u.s. election:
this could make sense but i just feel the timing is off?? they started writing season 5 WAY before and had been writing a long time. they FINISHED writing before the election. even if they were anticipating a win a few months before, how do you rewrite years of work that quickly? it doesn't really make sense to me.
💭 netflix shutting it down:
i could easily believe this if not for one thing - the duffers specifically said they didn't. even if there was an NDA, you'd probably just not bring it up instead of proudly proclaiming it was all you. if they wanted to do it but got shut down, they wouldn't want to make it seem like it was their choice. better to not mention it at all.
💭 the duffers don't know what they're doing / had no plans:
the post-finale interviews would certainly make you believe that. but their previous interviews & work just don't line up at all. they clearly know filmmaking. why did they suddenly break every rule??
💭 something Happened to the duffers (make up ur favorite scenario):
perhaps but there's so many others involved too. they didn't all hit their heads or whatever. and again it comes back to how do you suddenly drop a major plot line? not just fumble it but FORGET IT!
💭 bylers were just wrong:
sorry i will never believe this lmaooo. they used basic storytelling & filmmaking techniques to show byler. sure we had things that were stretches but the basics were very clear-cut.
💭 it was queerbaiting:
well yes, functionally it was. but was it always intended to be? why would you put THAT much effort into all these details? like it was just SO MUCH & so complex. #trustandbelieve i've been queerbaited before but this just felt very different. it feels much more like it was built up intentionally but then something veered it off-course. for the life of me i just don't know what.
💭 byler was only meant to be a subtextual story:
this does explain most things. i mean, the subtextual story of byler all fits perfectly, nothing is misaligned. it's just DEPRESSING. if your goal is to tell a subtextual queer story, why was that where you leave it?
especially for a show that is generally pretty hopeful. i would believe it more if byler had left on a positive implied note. who is the story for? you are telling a story of the tragedy of queer conformity only to the queer audience who already knows this? it's strange.
also, if this was the intention, would they really just never say it? you put all this effort into this massive subtextual story but don't want any credit? in fact you're okay with the only people who saw it & recognized its brilliance to hate your guts? 😭
hey do you all remember the whole slow cooker meal exchange from the texas arc when eddie was talking about how it had to be fork tender... and now buck is yelling at eddie to stick a fork in him. which is a euphemism for a recipe being fully cooked. you know, as in: ready.
eddie experienced homophobia at the diner while wearing his own clothes and at the hospital wearing a gown, but that basically stopped happening once he put on hector's clothes. when eddie was being himself, he was stereotyped, but as soon as he looked like someone else, he was hit on by a woman.... okay.
