i don’t know if you’ve heard but the entire byler twitter jumped on the smut train overnight

i have heard and i'm mad as hell yall were hounding my friends two years ago for using the word "moan" once during a kissing scene and now smut is fine? like i'm glad that we're cool with it because sex is normal but also. fucks sake man.

to be honest as someone whos been posting byler smut on ao3 since 2023, these people have been reading it the whole time. not sure if everyone knows this but you can see the number of private bookmarks on your fic as an author. NOT the content or who bookmarked, you can just see the total number of bookmarks which includes private and public in the stats section, whereas on the fic page you can only see how many are public. every fic has more private bookmarks than public ones, because that's just how people use the site, but my smut fics have always had a LOT more private bookmarks. i remember at one point one of them had 30 public bookmarks and like 120 total, so 90 private bookmarks. between the bookmark totals and the hit counts, these people who were publicly harassing smut writers were in fact reading it themselves too lmao.

i'm glad people have unclenched but i will not be forgetting. "uh this is weird" gives me fuckin war flashbacks lmfao

(this is mainly addressed towards “main” accounts here and on twitter who are suddenly enjoying spicy byler, which, yay!)

first off, if you have newly decided to be open about byler smut enjoyment, that is great & welcome home <3

but i do have a suggestion and a message for you if this fits you!

please understand that those of us who have been enjoying/creating byler nsfw since 2022 or earlier have gone through several harassment campaigns and abysmal treatment in this fandom. before you start full force horny byler posting, i strongly suggest that you:

reflect on the past harm you or your mutuals may have caused to nsfw creators. make amends, check in with those folks, have open conversations, and apologize where needed.

educate yourself on why censorship is a threat to lgbt rights.

i’ve seen too many friends get hurt and harassed and it’s not okay. sometimes it’s over something they’ve created that then goes on to get thousands+ of hits/kudos.

it’s like, i know you guys were enjoying byler nsfw all along, but if you want to start openly supporting those creators who you’ve enjoyed in secret over the past few years- then the best way to do that is stand up for us. it has been a bit hurtful to see people flippantly posting about nsfw byler and admitting they used to lie about not reading smut & being against it.

acknowledge past bullying, support the free speech of those who are on the fringes of fiction, and then, if you want, hit me up with spicy hcs; my askbox is always open :-)
