After much deliberation, I finally decided to try out Glossier’s Cloud Paint blush!
I was very hesitant at first due to a ton of reasons - the tubes are tiny and liquid blushes are always so messy! However, my friends who have this product all hail it to be one of their go-to blushes. When applied correctly, the blush is really pretty and all the colours are rather easy to wear. The Cloud Paint collection has since expanded to include a wide variety of colours; Dusk is so perfect if you’re into neutrals, Storm is lovely for a darker rosy flush, and if you like a zesty pop of colour, Dawn’s your go-to. I was debating between Dusk, Storm, and Beam for a long time, but decided on Beam in the end because I wanted a blush that was more fun and exciting (I have way too many neutral blushes) but still wearable at the same time.
When I received it, the first thing that popped into my head was that the tube is really tiny. In most photos I’ve seen of Cloud Paint online, the tubes look a lot larger than they do in real life, so don’t be fooled there. However, although the Cloud Paint tubes only contain 10 ml of product, it’s quite a lot, as a small amount really goes a long way. The initial amount I squeezed on my first try (see photo above) could easily last me 4-5 applications. Plus, Beam is a pretty bright colour so I don’t usually dab on too much as it might be too intense for me.
Having said that, I actually really like Beam on my cheeks! I have to admit that the shade wasn’t in my comfort zone, but I’m pleased with my purchase. The peachy-coral colour might look very intense when you first squeeze it out from the tube, but if you dab it on lightly, the sheer wash of colour is rather flattering. Beam gives me a bright pop of colour but it doesn’t look too orangey on the skin, which was something I was afraid of. The blush is also very long-lasting: I have gotten a good 8-10 hours of wear from this product, which is a godsend. My makeup doesn’t last very long throughout the day as not only is the Singapore climate hot and humid, I also have a really bad habit of touching my face throughout the day. My usual lasting power for powder blushes are around 4-6 hours, and cream blushes are around 6-8 hours on me. I would consider 8-10 hours really good as it means I can get through the workday while still looking somewhat put-together at the end of it.
Packaging wise, Cloud Paints are definitely one of the most travel-friendly blushes out there. The tube is small and lightweight, making it easy to stash in the small pockets of your bags. I like how the quality of the tube is not shabby, but yet it still feels casual enough so you don’t feel bad about damaging it. My biggest fear when it comes to beauty products is accidentally breaking the glass bottle and spilling product everywhere - which is why I stick to hardier plastic packaging for travel makeup and skincare.
The Cloud Paints do not fare so well cost-wise. One blush is around 18 USD (~25 SGD), which can be rather expensive from the get-go. However, it’s still cheaper than other liquid blushes I have tried before, like the NARS Liquid Blush & Becca’s Beach Tint. Nevertheless, I would still recommend trying out the Cloud Paint especially if you’re new to Glossier, as this is one of the more fuss-free products. I really love how natural it looks on your skin - the Cloud Paint dries to this velvety smooth natural finish that gives the illusion that your cheeks naturally look like this. The only downside is that the Cloud Paints, (and liquid blushes in general) are a little more high-maintenance during application. You do need to be very careful when applying it - apply too little and the blush might not show up at all, but apply too much and you might look too garish. Still, I find that the finish makes up for longer time needed as liquid blushes give off the most natural finish, and the lightweight texture is also perfect for Singapore’s humid climate.
