i'll be honest. If you can't deal with someone wording things badly then you aren't going to be an ally to autistic people or indeed anyone with a developmental disability, intellectual disability, or disability that impacts language.
also you are never going to be safe for people for whom english is their second language. if someone clarifies their meaning and apologises and you can't accept that over the original wording then don't bother pretending to be autism friendly.
and like part of my autism is that i become convinced that the way i interpret words is the way that they're meant. my autism is disabling to my communication abilities. i have poor emotional regulation, i jump to conclusions. a lot of my reactions are informed by prior negative experiences. i can and probably have been overly defensive in the past.
and i've been misinterpreted so much and had my words picked over and mocked for saying the wrong things and mocked for being unable to say anything at all and it always feels devastating. it's ironic that the same disability that has me treated poorly would have me react poorly to a similar situation, but that's just how it is.
so i'm not saying you can perfectly manage all your reactions just by trying hard enough. especially considering how much disability affects these things. but i do think if you are completely unwilling to give autistic and other DD/ID people leeway for how they word things or understand that they have a disability that impacts their communication and give us grace then you aren't a disability advocate.
Weaknesses exist, no shame in that, but strength is working despite them.
Standing DESPITE the pull of gravity.
It's easier to just lay there….but you'll never GET anywhere doing that.
You get me? I hope this helps someone.
A customer contacted our team with questions, and then finished their email with: "I am daunted by the complexities and unknowns." I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.
Reblog if you are daunted by the complexities and unknowns
YES! Not just because I am an overthinker, but because this is the humor and phrasing that drew me to Tumblr in the first place! YES!
Yeah, this seems pretty clear cut. What else would you call it? What reason would you have for deceiving someone on the actual merits of the home? You're just ruining the market, breeding suspicion never ends well, the housing market is bad enough....
Something about Pokopia I love is that it straight up proves Team Plasma wrong. Because we have separation so complete there are no humans at all, and what do the Pokemon do? Try to find them. They try to bring their friends and loved ones back. They rebuilt infrastructure, they explore, they try whatever they can think of because they love each other. And the humans loved them back. Loved them enough to say goodbye, not knowing whether they would see each other again, because they knew where they are going not many Pokemon could live and be happy. The bond between human and Pokemon is strong and mutual and I will not hear otherwise
And even the legendaries are in on it! Like, as powerful as they are, as irritable and even violent they may become when sought out or meddled with, they care too. They want to know what happened to the humans. They may seem aloof, more or less, but they're still tied to humans just like the other Pokemon….
Why is that, I wonder?
Minecraft and Updates
It boggles my mind that the Sniffer and Archaeology is....well...not good. The Sniffer could easily be ridable like the Camel, and you could easily make both distinct; Camels are tall and cannot be reached by melee attackers, and can seat two players at once. While the Sniffer would be more like Ursaluna in Pokemon Legends Arceus, a mount that can sniff up treasure for you. And, maybe even repel enemies with that big snout it uses to shove dirt off of seeds buried long ago, but I doubt Minecraft wants anything more akin to a war mount than a mount you coincidentally deal spear attacks off of. "Treasure." That isn't accurate, because the decorative plants it digs up are merely decorative. This would be fine, decorations can add a lot in and of themselves to the aesthetic and customization of a game world, but: 1. we were told the Sniffer digs up ancient seeds, which as a concept was exciting enough to win it the Mob Vote, but the potential anyone imagined when they heard that has been undelivered, unexplored, and unfulfilled. 2. There's only two plants we get from the Sniffer, the Pitcher Plant and Torchflower. This is extremely underwhelming considering you have to go out of your way to get a Sniffer in the first place. 3. With this lack of variety, and the two plants we do have being arguably unappealing, there's no real appeal to the Sniffer besides their own cosmetics (behavior, sounds, look). And the Sniffer is imho decent, it just seems like a low payoff for a treasure hunt as is. 4. Torchflowers don't emit light. With "Torch" in the name. Similarly, Archaeology produces only decorative items, which would be fine if accidentally destroying Suspicious blocks wasn't so easy and Archaeological sites weren't so rare finding a trial ruin is like winning a lottery. Making the barrier of entry so high those who might be interested are unlikely to even bother....much like the Kalos Starter's Mega Stones. Dang you, Nintendo! Anyway, in my eyes, there is a simple solution to this; have both produce lost items. Say the Sniffer digs up buried cooking utensils and seeds or seed caches, or that archaeology can produce old tools or stone tablets depicting new recipes. So a Sniffer can sniff up a cooking pot, or a metal spoon, due to traces of savory soup on the lost utensils. Or a butter churn, or a manuscript of how to make cheese! Or it can sniff up ancient crops, which were lost and subsequently led to the loss of recipes requiring them to make. Things like Apple Pie, which requires Cinnamon (I love the subtle implication there), or Marshmallows which requires Mallow Root. Rosemary Steak, Garlic or Onion Steak, Spicy Steak, Cheese, Bananas, Cherries, Marinaded Ham!
Whereas Archaeology would produce the tools and knowledge necessary to make things like Tumbaga, Bronze, Steel, Whitesteel, Sniffer Saddles, Throwing Axes or Knives, Heavy Armor, or a Greatsword. Mojang is by no means obligated to make any of this. But darn it, it'd be cool! *And for the record, cheese. You can either make it using Milk and a Fermented Spider Eye, so it boosts instead of removes magic effects, or by combining Milk with a Durian to make a delicious additive to Bread or Cooked Meat, perhaps even a sandwich.
Upcoming Conference
This conference, this Saturday and Sunday, is for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I always enjoy it myself, and I find it helps me personally, so I'd recommend it. I fully understand if Religion is Not Your Thing, and you're not here for religion. Rest assured there is plenty else here for you if you want to skip past this. But if you want to check it out, it can be found on Youtube or the churchofjesuschrist.org website on the days it's on.
My Thoughts On Mega Starmie and Conformation
[SPOILERS DON'T LOOK IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS ON POKEMON LEGENDS Z-A]
What are they thinking with Mega Starmie?
Look, I want to be respectful. But from what I see, with so many of the leakers confirmed with every released Mega, Mega Starmie has an underwhelming and dare I say disappointing design that doesn't build upon any of Starmie's various interesting elements (it has a crystal core that beams radio signals into space according to the 'Dex, for crying out loud!), nor add anything new to what makes it great or unique.
Instead, it gives Mega Starmie legs. It's also rather obviously going to be Lida's Mega, Lida who as a dancer uses her legs quite a bit. So it can dance alongside her. A Pokemon implied to be an alien by its Psychic-typing, otherworldly elements, and aforementioned radio signals through a powerful bond Mega Evolves and becomes able to walk among us instead of flying around.
But an alien living among us despite the differences between them and us is more meaningful than them walking among us. Starmie has a body type that isn't built for either kind of location, its a Psychic type capable of flying around while carrying a 10-year-old or Rapid Spinning like a plane turbine to clear the field using AMAZING PSYCHIC POWERS.
And yet Gamefreal went with the Little Mermaid-esque "legs to walk on land" angle, the alien shapeshifting to walk among us angle, because Mega Evolution's energies are borne from a strong bond. When coexistence despite differences, learning from and incorporating other's perspectives and insights, is far more meaningful than mimicry and conformation, biological or otherwise.
This doesn't strike me as wholesome. Becoming like those you spend time with isn't necessarily bad, or even just neutral, it can be good and I know that, but Starmie being molded to walk instead of fly when it Megas just seems like conformation for conformation's sake. Because it's such an unimportant detail! Like, walking isn't even definitive of humanity! You aren't less human if you need a cane, a walker, a wheelchair, or a cast and some time in bed! Starmie listens to your auditory signals instead of psionic or radio signals you can't produce when it can't vocalize back in similar fashion, and may even watch for and understand physical cues when it can't make expressions or gestures, and despite all that, no, it needs to walk like a person to demonstrate its deepened bond with humans?!
That just seems to be objectively bad, and don't get me wrong if I have misinterpeted the designer's intent here, or if someone has something good to say about it, I am open to other viewpoints. [More if you want it because I am passionate about this]
But my view is simple; Starmie doesn't have to walk among us. It's already here. It's already our friend. It cares enough to follow us around and listen to us despite the communication barrier, and help us out despite the species barrier. Isn't it more meaningful that Starmie does all that when its so alien to us? (Wasn't the point of Superman 2025 that you can be human as an alien? That aliens can have personhood, and by extension, that Krypto is as valid as any Earth dog? Sure Clark Kent looks and thinks much like a person, he isn't an alien starfish that flies telekinetically and beams radiowaves and who knows what else to communicate, but if an alien akin to a Sectoid or Muton or Viper wanted to coexist would it be more productive to work with their differences or shove their round pegs into our square molds?)
And if that's the case, and I'd say it is, isn't making Starmie more like us meaningless? Megas are about you making your beloved Pokemon stronger-at least they were before SM's dark and disturbing Mega entries which I'd call utter crap meant to prepare us for their throwing out Megas for some reason-so why doesn't Mega Starmie gain more crystal spines, or longer arms, or fold in its arms and sprout a crystal formation so it looks like a death ray? Better yet, what if its first set of arms does that, while the back set of arms enlarge and elongate into something like a spaceship's wings and thruster? Why isn't Mega Starmie more Starmie?
Is Gamefreak so bankrupt of ideas that the old "overproduction" theme that Glalie and Victreebel's Megas clearly suffer from not applicable to the starfish? You couldn't even have Starmie Mega into an eldritch or 4D-style entity using a brittle star as inspiration? Use the sun, or black holes, or supernovas, as inspiration? Heck, some starfish can reproduce asexually from lost arms; could we not have a satellite of smaller starfish born from the back of Starmie, and make Starmie into a sort of mothership for them?
I'm just, disappointed man. I'm tired. Mega Malamar and Hawlucha are OK, I might even call the former neat, but the timegating Megas, predatory pricing and FOMO tactics, premature DLC, and the other Mega designs are just not doing it for me. I want to be excited and enjoy Pokemon again. But they couldn't even bring us Gorochu, they had to mess that up too. *BTW I've never really thought about Starmie, it was always just kinda there, but after thinking about how much effort Starmie's putting in to coexist with humans I think I love it now? It's just, so precious.

Metal Charged Attacks
The final segment! The end of the series you can find here! Months ago, before starting on this project, despite literally years of work on this setting, there were no Charged Attacks. As of this year, now there are. Some things really do take time, so try not to beat yourself up about them! (Says me who struggles with that) Anyway!
Slag Burst was the first one of its kind, and it is a nightmare. The second this Charged Attack makes contact, waves of rippling metal surge outward with terrifying force. These waves blast out, seem to "halt," and then freeze into layers of razor-sharp metal crystals. Where enemies or objects act as a wavebreak, crystal formations suddenly erupt like sharp coral breaking free of the depths to claim the surface, causing more damage. Similar random coral formations can be found strewn throughout the resulting structure.
TL; DR: This AoE attack will damage and repel enemies within range via waves of liquid metal, and any enemy or object acting as a "wavebreak" will experience sudden "coral" formation-think bismuth crystal-which deals additional damage and can catch or slow the opponent as the waves of liquid metal momentarily harden. This attack can Bleed and Immobilize opponents, for obvious reasons. The resulting structure is also not good to touch.
Rising Tower came second, and is a lot like the final battles in Kingdom Hearts 2. It basically manifests a block of steel the height of a Minecraft tree, with a steeple on top and rectangular white or yellow crystal patches set into the sides to evoke a skyscraper. And not just in looks either! It actually evokes the mass and force of a falling skyscraper, making it impossible to Block or Guard against this attack without being crushing between Tower and ground, and with the length and size of this construct it's not easy to dodge unless you use its relatively slow Charge time to get a head start! And with its size and range, dodging it isn't so easy either, even with its relatively slow Charge timer! In fact, this attack can be executed as either a straightforward slam, or a batter's swing!
Next, Flying Shrapnel is a simple projectile-wave Charged Attack that deals Bleed damage, has limited Armor Penetration, and makes the opponent weaker to certain types of damage (like Metal, Ice, and Electric). When executed, or when Charging, this Charged Attack will deflect most projectiles back at the target and enhance their DMG as well.
Third, Resounding Impact is interesting, as it can summon several concentric rings of spikes-like that first dude you fight in Horizon Forbidden West-or summon a giant blade or column up from the ground to smash into a target. See, for reasons not fully understood, Metal in Alendyias tends to reflect other’s magic, or in other words external magic tends to override or supercede Metal. Metal magic is a recessive trait, and everything else is dominant. Resounding Strike flips that on its head, forcing the ground or other surfaces to reflect and echo metal, manifesting out of raw energy a field of spikes or columns…..or, if one used a hammer or sword to stab the ground, with sufficient expertise, making a giant blade or column of metal rise up some distance away with considerable speed and force.
TL;DR: Ever wanted to raise spikes from the ground, or make a giant sword thrust up from the ground? This CA can do that. It's good as an earthquake-style AoE, or for projecting your weapon up from the ground some distance away when executing a ground slam.
Renewed Edge is very different. It is more philosophically viewed, and closely tied to “Blademasters”, “Dualists”, and others claiming a mastery of self and sword. When successfully executed, this "Daring" strike sends the user flying through the air or along the ground in a streak of flashing steel, delivering a thrust or slash. It then increases the user’s Attack and Speed and boosts their Stamina, rejuvenating them and strengthening their attack, and potentially allowing them to A) continue executing Renewed Edge and B) becoming stronger as they do. It only stacks up to 5 times currently. Making the user, oh, 30% stronger each time. Meaning a full 5 stacks will increase the user’s Attack by 150% and prevent their Stamina from depleting for about a full minute. This is known as the “Ascendant” state.
TL;DR: Charge up blade. Dash through air or over ground to deliver a swift thrust or slash. Successfully landing this "Renewed Edge" attack increases Attack and Speed and awards Stamina. Using that Stamina to ready this attack again will instantly Recharge the blade, and successfully landing Renewed Edge several times puts you in an "Ascendant" state that increases your attack and speed massively while preventing Stamina from depleting for a full minute.
Alright, that’s all of the currently existing Charged Attacks! (The previous ones can be found here.) If you want a chapter on specifically Force Charged Attacks, do let me know. You can also request a post on:

Poison Charged Attacks
Part 8 of 9! Feel free to check out this post if you want to see the previous ones in this series! Anyway. On to the good stuff. Concentration basically Charges up stacks of Poison Element, literally concentrating the Poison inside the weapon. This applies a multiplier on the Poison damage inflicted by the following attack, based on how many stacks were accrued, if one can successfully inflict the Poison condition with said attack. Don’t worry, Concentrated Poison is more likely to overcome Poison Resistance, for reasons which should be obvious. Spreading Poison’s name is counterintuitive; it’s not an AoE. Spreading Poison drenches the victim in sticky poison, or injects them with a virulent poison (the poison is both, to clarify, THE POISON IS BOTH), so the victim upon biting clawing touching or bleeding on another entity might spread the Poisoned condition. The potency of the Poison and how likely it is to spread is determined by the user’s Poison affinity. So, essentially, Spreading Poison is like dunking someone in sewage or radioactive sludge, and the more potently your Poison Magic, the more likely it is that the sewage or radioactive sludge affects others contacted by the victim. Fuming Poison, however, is an AoE. It wafts outward from its initial burst, dissipating quickly but still having range beyond its immediate impact. This attack is especially effective at inflicting Poison, but can also negatively affect breathing and thus Stamina regeneration, as well as irritating the eyes to reduce Perception and perhaps even Blind foes. Piercing Fang is basically Piercing Thorn or Piercing Frost, except it can Poison enemies. Acid Mantle is a defensive Poison technique that sheathes the weapon in an acid coating, reducing the damage taken when Guarding (blocking attacks) with that weapon and Corroding attackers or their weapons when they strike the Guard. Every hit the Mantle takes reduces the Mantle’s durability….which is determined by Poison Affinity (how connected you are to Poison Magic, or how potently you can wield it). Countering does not consume Mantle durability, however, attacking an opponent with a Mantled weapon will. Yes, this means there is a short window after each impact where a Mantle will ignore additional impacts, and yes that means executing a Combo with a Mantled weapon will only count as a single hit to the Mantle’s durability. Esurine Venom is an Acid-based Poison Attack that not only Corrodes objects and enemies, but has a Lifesteal effect that grants HP and Stamina alike to the user. It deals extra damage to Earth enemies. Its damage and the effectiveness of its Lifesteal is determined by Poison affinity. So yeah, almost done with this series! Next one after Metal is an expose on how Light and Dark fit into this series, and how ranged weaponry interacts with Charged Attacks! (Which will be two separate posts!) And sometime I will post about how Force interacts with Elemental Magic so look out for that!
Forest Charged Attacks
Part 7 out of 9! Feel free to check out the previous posts in the series here if you're interested. This one will be a longer one. Forest Charged Attacks Strung Lash is the first Forest Charged Attack I ever made, and among the first Charged Attacks. It’s basically a weedwhacker, or a tightly wound string lashing out when finally released. It has enough force to potentially cut enemies, knock them off balance too! In essence, this Charged Attack is one part whip, one part Spin Attack. And skilled users can execute it as a non-spin attack, releasing it like a regular whip to unfurl itself and slam on a target, or tightly contain the spin to create a shield or propeller-like effect. Piercing Thorn is the second ever Forest Charged Attack, and came sometime after Strung Lash. It is a mirror to Piercing Frost, and was created at the same time; when I came up with the names, they filled a needed niche, what can I say. Bursting Seeds was made sometime in 2024, and this Charged Attack is all about Forest application, unleashing a spray or burst of seeds that also burst on impact as a wave of projectiles or a shotgun-like AoE. A target that takes the full brunt of this onslaught is likely to be Overgrown, but the severity is determined by the user's Forest Affinity or Status Mastery. How potently they can wield Forest magic, or how effectively they can inflict Status. Overgrown by default Slows a target until they can extricate themselves. The next tier up Restrains them, preventing movement until they can extricate themselves. The third and final tier Immobilizes a target indefinitely. Surging Growth came a few months ago if I recall, so early 2025. It is one of the latest Charged Attacks, and effectively performs as a Dash that leaves a trail of Overgrowth. It can leave struck enemies tripped up by sudden grasping growths, or with a more potent wielder inflict Overgrowth on them to make them Restrained in the wake of the user’s burst of speed. All in all, it has been awhile, but I think this is good! Do let me know if you have questions about the magic system or feedback on how I can improve formatting!
Water Charged Attacks
Part 6 of 9! Masterpost link is here if you want to see the previous ones in the series. There are only three Water Charged Attacks. First is Pressure Jet. This is where you hold your weapon ready for a thrust, arms trembling, set against the delayed impact as the Charge builds within your weapon. And then, it releases as a jet of water sharp as any sword. Excellent due to its Armor Penetration and high Knockback. Can Soak opponents as well, leaving them susceptible to Water-based Synergies like electrifying wet targets or throwing seeds on wet targets to apply vine-y Overgrowth. Second is Swelling Wave. This is an AoE sort of Charged Attack, executed as a right-to-left slam or an overhead smash. It repels and often flinches enemies, and has a high chance to Soak them as well. Third is Rushing Wave. Rushing Wave is a Dash combined with a Charged Attack. It is generally executed with the blade held back at a downward angle, like with the "long tail guard" in fencing, but can also be executed with the blade held straight back at one's side, which segues into a thrust or sweeping slash. High speed, knockback, and Soak potential. The format for this one is pretty tight, but if you have feedback on how to improve this or the previous Charged Attack (CA) posts, or questions on how they work, please let me know! Thank you!
