It was a touch that came completely out of nowhere.
She and Robbie knew each other just well enough to be past the acquaintance phase of a relationship—barely. Ever since he’d popped out of thin air (quite literally; don’t ask), with hellfire dancing around his skull, it’d been a mixture of weirdly fascinating and uniquely frustrating. But, though they stuck near each other, they weren’t exactly close—certainly not enough for this level of intimacy.
Pasha froze as his fingers moved through her hair, too stunned to do much before she regained her senses. Spine stiff, she turned to give him a long, measuring look before pulling herself away, smoothing out her hair.
“You could at least buy me a drink first.”
It had been an ACCIDENT. Okay, well not an accident, but not entirely on purpose, either. While he might have been PHYSICALLY present, his thoughts had been somewhere across time and space. It didn’t happen all the time, but...sometimes...when he had enough breathing room to collect himself and allow his mind to wander...Robbie went back there.
That...HELLISH realm just across the universe --- a PRIMORIDIAL world of brimstone and ash where ancient beings dwell. Perched on thrones from the sun bleached bones of vanquished enemies. Where the concept of the SOUL was something palpable and true, swapped between the various Lords like currency.
While mere months had gone by here on Earth, he’d been gone for much longer. Time passed different over there --- days stretched out in years, man. Fucking YEARS.
Sometimes, like right then, he found himself struggling with anxiety. Struggling with the notion that he might not have ever left that place. Maybe this was all an illusion --- yet another method of torture conjured up by the Lords of Chaos.
He swore he could see the flesh stripping from Pasha’s cheeks --- bonewhite glistening through her gaping cheek as red hot winds tore at her skin like sandpaper. Long, beautiful hair in flames. Burning like a halo.
He found himself reaching out to her, hand trembling ---
“ ...My bad. I don’t even know...shit,
I’m trippin’.”
Robbie offered a weak smile, recoiling as though bitten. Grateful that her reaction had been tame ( he knew what kind of temper hid behind that smile. ) Eyes squeezed tight, man counting to three, knees knocking at teeth digging into the inside of his cheek as he willed the visions away.
Eyes open. Trepidatious glance --- but everything is okay, she’s whole and complete and totally looking at him like he was the biggest fucking creep.
“ ...Maybe we should do that.
